  1. There were so many years where this signing would cause infinite arguments. There’d be those that were convinced that we got a talented QB who was ready to turn things around and shine here in the right offense with the right coaches. And there’d be those who complain we just wasted a bunch of money on a bust and that we were doomed. Now we’re all like “Hey, nice pick up. He’ll make a great back up.”
  2. While I have immense confidence in the dysfunction and incompetence of the Jest ownership, they did (probably by accident) get themselves a quality HC. There is zero chance that Saleh took that job without assurances of getting his QB this year. Darnold is getting moved and the Jest will draft a QB.
  3. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.si.com/nfl/vikings/.amp/news/vikings-de-danielle-hunter-successful-surgery-herniated-disc-neck https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/minnesota-vikings/danielle-hunter-16812/ I did some digging and was surprised by some things here. The first link is an article about his successful surgery. What I find incredibly surprising is that it also includes a tweet from Ian Rapaport that says that Hunter’s agent was demanding a new contract that would make Hunter the highest paid defensive player in the league or trade him. That tweet came BEFORE Hunter even had his surgery. Wow. The second link is his contract, which runs through 2023, so he has three seasons left on it. It is a 5 year deal worth $72M. That’s huge and ranks 7th among DEs in AAV, but it is way below market for a healthy Hunter. But who is giving him such a massive deal without knowing if he will stay healthy?
  4. That’s fair if it’s all about getting more money this season. I was surprised he did that. My only thoughts on it are that it’s either: - a way for him to get himself out of Minny or - the neck injury that very well could have ended his career got him thinking he has to set himself and his family up financially ASAP If it’s the former, then okay. If it’s the latter, then you have to really be concerned. Waimea team could hand handing him a huge check only to watch him make business decisions on the field for a couple seasons and then retire.
  5. $12.7M which is fully guaranteed at the time it is executed under the new rule from latest CBA that kicks in for 2018 1st rounders. It also fully guarantees any 4th year salary that isn’t already guaranteed. It’s gotta be done by 5/3/21. Here’s some good info: https://overthecap.com/fifth-year-option-projections/
  6. IMO it’s worth picking up Edmunds 5th year option to see where he is in two years. He was drafted very young and has dealt with injury. We should give him that vote of confidence and see what happens. For those thinking about extending him consider these points: - No way do you extend him before Allen. Same draft, Allen was the earlier 1st round pick and it’s QB vs MLB. Extending Edmunds before Allen would be a terrible message to send. - 16th overall picks extended by the teams that drafted them prior to becoming FAs get paid very large. We’re talking $15M-$16M AAV for 5 years with 60% guaranteed (in my estimation). So the bar is very high for an extension. - If he is good, but falls short of that level of performance he could still test the market and return at a rate more in line with his performance.
  7. The Browns need 3 good TEs on their roster because they run so many multiple TE sets. I think they only move Njoku if they have another to take his place. Seems like Rudolph would have been the likely answer for them, but that didn’t materialize. I do know that the Browns have fielded offers for Njoku but none they deemed sufficient. I got the impression that it was likely going to be a player for player trade if it happened.
  8. BB always loved his TEs. But to the original question, I’d think we’d see a lot of Big Nickel against 21 personnel. That means Neal will see a lot of action. But here’s some food for thought: Everyone is looking at what BB is doing with his offense through the lens of how it works for Cam, but it is also a great plan for a rookie QB. Cam is his bridge QB and I expect him to be very aggressive going after one early in the draft. He’s made attempts at acquiring a QB in the first round ever since Jimmy G got traded away, he just hasn’t been able to pull off the trades.
  9. It isn’t the cap that’s the mirage, it’s the contracts that are.
  10. The salary cap isn’t wrong, it’s just misunderstood
  11. I was bummed until I saw the $10M price tag. Dude went for the cash. Do not blame him one bit, but guys that are focused on the money can go elsewhere.
  12. It’s been an odd year. Teams with cap issues have really done a lot to push hits off until next season and beyond. Ones with a surplus are eating it up and making space as needed. It makes sense given the circumstances. It sure looked like it could be bad at first, but teams figured out how to work it.
  13. Spotrac has Chicago at $4.55M over. But that includes the franchise tag contract of Allen Robinson, which is $17.88M. He hasn’t signed it yet so it doesn’t count. They get time (1 or 2 days) to get under if/when he signs it. So they are comfortably under for the time being. Saints have the same thing going on.
  14. Got caught eating his wings with ranch
  15. Guessing there are some moves - mostly restructures - that haven’t made their way to Spotrac and OTC.
  16. Original round. He was undrafted so it’s about matching if he gets offered.
  17. I heard earlier today that this move was expected because BB wants another team to set Jackson’s price. Apparently he wasn’t able to get a LTD done directly so they’re looking for a middle man. Probably best if no team offers him and he can leave NE in a year. Otherwise BB gets Jackson long term or he gets a 2nd round pick.
  18. 1 - yes or the trade would not be approved by the league 2 - teams are required to have cap space equal to the league minimum salary for each pick they make or the pick is forfeited. They just need the cap space for the contracts cleared as of signing or the league won’t approve the contracts. Rule of 51 applies until cutdown day so it’s not usually an issue edit: the first point in #2 is from the old CBA and I’m assuming it’s the same in this one. At any rate I’ve never seen it be an issue
  19. Dalton’s signing made me think of this video. It’s from 2009 but it is crazy how long they’ve been without a decent QB there.
  20. You’re crazy. Mack isn’t tradable for Chicago and trading back in the draft really wouldn’t lessen our cap spend by anything significant. Also I doubt we’d pay another top WR.
  21. I suspect he also will get on the field in more 10 personnel. There really was no other player who could do what Beasley did for us. Now we have Sanders that can. Good for RZ, moving the sticks and redundancy in case of injury or just breathers. It is more than I’d want to pay for what I expect to be a #4 WR, but it’s not crazy. I also understand why they’d go this route rather than to just draft a rookie for it. Sanders is way more of a sure thing.
  22. That’s correct. He’s a possession WR now, but according to PFF over the last 3 seasons he ranks 15th among WRs in overall grade and 16th in separation. Beane has really only gone after receivers who can separate. He should be valuable, but we still need a burner to take the top off the defense.
