A Lot of Bills stars Were at OTA's But 1 Star Was Not .
BarleyNY replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Star threw it in neutral and has coasted since he signed that big contract with the Bills in 2018. $27M for poor play and effort so far. He has another $4.5M in salary this season and $2.5M next - all fully guaranteed. He also could get up to $250k this season in active roster bonuses and would be getting an additional $250k if he’d bothered to show up to the voluntary workouts going on now. Similar bonuses are available next season but I doubt he’s here then. SMDH -
Urban just can’t quit Tebow! (Update - Cut by Jags)

That rugby player has an exemption so he is not taking up a roster spot like Tebow is. Also nothing feelings related in my post. Strictly a stupid decision as explained. Feel free to discuss that. -
Urban just can’t quit Tebow! (Update - Cut by Jags)
BarleyNY replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is spot on. Tebow will be 34 in August. The guy has not played football for nine years and is changing positions. Incidentally that’s changing positions to TE, which he has never played. Then there’s the distraction factor, which Urban is inviting. For what? If he’s very lucky it’ll be for a guy who is an old player/buddy of his sitting at the end of the bench for a season or two. At worst, it’s a joke that’ll be a distraction to his team and hurt him in the locker room. I mean, how would a Jags player not look at this and think Meyer was in way over his head? It’s a joke. I am a lifelong Buckeyes fan and Urban was a great hire for tOSU. He was a great college coach for a long time, but he did not seem to be evolving with the game. Specifically I saw two big issues: 1) Haskins. When he was QB at tOSU Meyer did not change the offense to suit him even though he was as poor a fit as you could find for it. A great coach has to be better than that. 2) As the RO/RPO scheme ran into defenses built to combat it he did not evolve. The difference between his offense and Day’s are substantial. The Buckeyes got very lucky (were very smart?) with how things worked out. If Day had become another tOSU assistant coach who became HC of their rival to the North (like Bo Schembechler did) things could have been disastrous for them. Instead they have a great coach with a modern take on a highly effective offensive scheme. -
Sheldon Richardson or Vernon Butler
BarleyNY replied to Weatherman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That could not be further from the truth. He was very much a team first leader on the Browns. Most fans thought he’d be retained due to that more so than his play - which was good, just not in line with the $12.3M he was set to make. -

I think he’s waiting for an injury on a competitive team. He can sign a multi year deal (even a true 1 year deal with voidable years) structured to pay him well this season and spread the hit. I don’t see him playing for $3M. Maybe around $5M for the correct team, but he’d have gotten more than that from the Browns. That might be a pride thing though and that ship looks to have sailed. -

This illustrates exactly what most people hated about Tebow. It has nothing to do with him personally, it’s hearing this crap from the legion of religious fans that worship him every time his limitations as an NFL football player are brought up. He wasn’t nearly good enough nine years ago - and that absolutely was in an offense completely tailored to him despite what you claim - and he isn’t going to be good enough now at a new position after not playing since 2016. Is there another player that wouldn’t be roundly laughed at for something like that? Oh and the “Leadership” angle is crap too. Virtually no one on an NFL team is going to care what he says or does. They’re mostly grown men who are there to do a job. Rah rah college crap does not carry much weight. Also why the heck would anyone want a guy who - if he even makes the team - will be at the end of the roster on a vet minimum one year contract to be a team leader? That would be a distraction from players like Lawrence who should have that position. I’d actually lose respect for Tebow (who I don’t blame for the actions of his fans) if he hurt the team that way. I definitely will lose some respect for Urban if Tebow makes the 53. -
Sheldon Richardson or Vernon Butler
BarleyNY replied to Weatherman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Richardson is a 3T. He’s a very good locker room presence. As a player he is definitely starting caliber and I expect he eventually gets paid that way. While he might not have been worth the $12.3M he was due, there is a slim to no chance he plays for $3.3M. Also people make a good point about not screwing over a player that just reworked his deal. -
If we added a solid to serviceable starting CB (or better) to the roster I would be a lot more at ease. Lattimore is out of our price range currently. The other part of this issue is we don’t have much help at S or LB to cover the slot. We have Hyde, Poyer, Edmunds and Milano plus Neal for S depth. If we get an injury (or more) to one of our top 2 safeties or 3 CBs things just look really, really thin to me.

The FO is clearly prioritizing pass rush over coverage - to a large degree, in fact. We can debate that strategy - the analytics people will tell you that coverage should be prioritized - but I think a good case can be made that prioritizing the pass rush is a good way to go too. That the Bills have gone that route is not really what concerns me. It is that the CB corps has really been neglected except for the Tre pick and extension. CB is generally considered the first or second most important position on the defense and we’ve seen more attention to LB and S than CB. The DL has had a ton of draft capital and cap dollars allocated to it - with limited returns so far. I don’t think any other position group is close (except QB). So we might be 5 deep at DE now, but we’re only 3 deep at CB. That is not nearly enough depth so it just doesn’t make sense to me.

Fairburn would swap Allen for Mahomes. Would you?
BarleyNY replied to transplantbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That makes a lot of sense actually as this this thread basically turned into Homer Circle Jerk and Josh Allen Blind Loyalty Litmus Test. Sad. I’m rooting for Allen because he’s the Bills QB. I believe him to be capable of taking that final step, but I’m not giving him credit for doing so until he does. If he takes a step or two backwards I’ll still root for him, but I’d want an upgrade. That just means that I root for the team, not a player over the team, and that I understand things like logic. -

BarleyNY replied to transplantbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is exactly where I am. While I’m certainly not saying that Allen can’t take that next step - after all, he’s taken so many already - it’s pure homerism to chose a QB who has already done so over one who hasn’t. -
It’s a pipe dream. If a decent or better team with no viable backup loses its starting QB for the year we might be able to get a pick for Trubisky. It should be noted that we would by no means be the only team who could trade such a backup. But no team is trading a quality starting CB to us during the season.

The Haslams screwed up the McDermott/Jackson decision. Depodesta and the rest of the Browns brass voted unanimously to hire McDermott, but the Haslams ignored them all and went with Jackson. Then Depodesta wanted Stefanski two years ago and the Haslams went with Kitchens instead. Finally they listened to him and hired Stefanski and Berry (GM) a year ago - though Saleh was a close second. Stepping aside and letting Depo do his job was easily the best decision they’ve made since buying the Browns.

Does Gregory Rousseau need "redshirt" year?

Jim McMahon : Belichick a lying POS.
BarleyNY replied to Greg S's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Alas ‘tis the slow season -
I have to think that these reports are just the Falcons trying to drum up a market for him. No way is BB trading for him. If JJ had been a Patriots WR, he’d have been traded away a season or two ago. Maybe Indy is desperate enough to make a move for him, but his trade value is significantly diminished by his contract and age.

Steps taken to solve last year's problems
BarleyNY replied to Arm of Harm's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We’d have to clear some cap space for a signing like that. We need to make some room by cut down day anyway. That could be a restructure of Dawkins or cutting/trading away salary. But signing someone like Sherman or Nelson would require more work to be done. Not that we couldn’t do it, just that we’re at a point where choices need to be made. -

I agree with that too. I was really surprised we didn’t draft a 1T. Who knows what we’ll get out of Star after a year off? Or Phillips off of injury? Hopefully both are back to full strength, but I expect little from Star except to take snaps a 1T. His play since he’s gotten here has been poor IMO. Maybe Phillips can do the job. -

I was a very big fan of the Oliver pick. He was literally the best prospect that I thought might fall to us and I was ecstatic when he did. But he hasn’t consistently performed well enough yet. The biggest reason I can point to is not unrealistic expectations from fans. I sure didn’t have those. It’s that he had to play a lot of 1 tech last season. He needs to be at 3 tech. He should spend the majority of his time there this season so we should be able to see what we really have in him. 🤞 -
What will josh allens contract look like?

Bills -14 vs Texans is the largest spread of 2021 Season
BarleyNY replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
NO still has a lot of talent and good coaching. I have zero faith that Hill will ever be a good QB, but maybe the bookies think that Payton will work some magic with Winston. That line could move significantly after people get a look at the NO QBs in camp. -

BarleyNY replied to Saxum's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah. I definitely think Rousseau is a swing for the fences boom or bust type. In a few years there isn’t going to be any hand wringing about whether or not he gets his fifth year option/second contract. He either will be a star and here long term or bust and will be gone. Also agree on Boogie and Epenesa. Lower ceiling/higher floor types of prospects - especially Boogie. They should be both be solid to very good players, but neither is going to be elite.
