JOK missing from the list. Perhaps only because he didn’t get enough snaps the first two games. He got plenty in week 3 and he’s been lights out when I’m the field. He’s the #1 ranked LB (Milano is now #2) by PFF, which ESPN often utilizes so it is odd he’s not listed.

Honestly I would have thought so too, but I can’t argue with the results.

Should the Bulls and NYS pair with the Bills?
BarleyNY replied to Peace Frog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The only way it should be seriously considered is if UB is going to try to invest in and build up their football program. That means top notch facilities and paying coaches real money. The current college conferences are changing dramatically and some will be gone soon. That makes this a great time to try and bring a team like the Bulls into prominence. I don’t think they will try and there is a real possibility of failure even if they do. For instance, I’m not sure the alumni and other fans would jump on board with the college game anyway. But everyone loves a winner so it’s possible. -
That looks great. I may give it a go. Also I was considering doing a smoke then fry sometime. Smoked wings taste great but getting the skin crispy is nearly impossible and that pretty much ruins them for me.
-
That’s great thanks. I appreciate the recommendation. My three top “go to” places for recipes are: ATK, Serious Eats and Amazing Ribs. But I hadn’t seen SE’s wings.
-
Actually I use ATK’s exact recipe and method for Korean Fried Chicken Wings. No modifications needed and the sauce has easily overtaken Frank’s and butter and other sauces as the house favorite. So far it has been unanimous among friends and family as the best wings any of us have had. Here is a video of the recipe:

When I make wings at home I use this method:
-
I’ve seen stuff like that and drumsticks getting put on menus in other places. I have a friend that owns a dive bar in Phoenix and he was complaining about the price of wings skyrocketing - and that was 10 or 12 years ago! Now it’s totally insane.
-
I know the owners of Gabriel’s Gate and was talking with one of them about exactly that not too long ago. Wings are expensive and the restaurants aren’t even making money on them. They just hope that people who order them get beer too. Chicken breast is literally cheaper than wings. Supply and demand.

Spencer Brown - will he start on the OL? (Update - Yes)
BarleyNY replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With the fairly recent rule change that requires teams to dress 9 OL it makes a lot of sense to use a backup tackle in place of the blocking TE. No need to waste an extra active roster spot there. Brown, whose background is at TE, makes a ton of sense in that role. I thought that it would be likely the team would try to go this route after we drafted him. It must’ve worked out because they cleaned house at TE on cut down day and are rolling with it. -
Picking up Edmunds Option a Rare Beane Mistake
BarleyNY replied to Billy Zabka's topic in The Stadium Wall
The contract was based on the estimates by @GunnerBill Mostly I was trying to figure out what a contract would look like given the parameters he discussed. I was not advocating giving Edmunds that deal. I didn’t think Milano would take the discount he did to stay, so you never know. Maybe Edmunds will take a big discount too, but I don’t think we can bank on that. I don’t think we have to split hairs here though. If the Bills retain Edmunds beyond next season, then his contract is going to be a big one. Bigger than Milano’s 4 year, $41.5M deal for sure. I don’t think he warrants that, so I’d rather they move on and use the money more wisely. -
Picking up Edmunds Option a Rare Beane Mistake
BarleyNY replied to Billy Zabka's topic in The Stadium Wall
I wanted to circle back and look at this more closely in case I missed something. Based on your contract parameters I get something this: 2022: $20M SB + $3M salary, cap hit of $7M 2023: $5M salary, $9M cap hit 2024: $16M salary, $20M cap hit 2025: $18M salary, $22M cap hit 2026: $20M salary, $24M cap hit Effectively a minimum 3 year, $44M deal due to some salary guarantees carrying into year 3. There’s just a lot better ways to spend that cap space IMO. I just don’t think Edmunds is worth close to that. I’m assuming that he has a competent agent. -
Picking up Edmunds Option a Rare Beane Mistake
BarleyNY replied to Billy Zabka's topic in The Stadium Wall
My issue is that $12.7M is now the AAV floor for an extension and a longer deal means a lot more guaranteed money than that. I get your point about lowering his cap hit in the first year and keeping it low in the second, but we will have to take the rest of that hit eventually. It’s just a road that I would have preferred they had not gone down. -

Unfortunately Bill O’Brien is not running an NFL franchise into the ground at this time so we can’t take advantage of his stupidity. -
Picking up Edmunds Option a Rare Beane Mistake
BarleyNY replied to Billy Zabka's topic in The Stadium Wall
I can’t imagine a trade works out. No one will give up much of anything for a player on their fifth year option. They’d need to negotiate a long term deal first, but that’s a tough road to go down. We would have to tell Edmunds that we want to trade him, find a trade partner and hope his agent can negotiate an extension with them. Or, if we can’t find a trade partner, we would wind up with a MLB who knows we were trying to trade him on a one year $12.7M contract. That would likely spur the relationship. There is just too much downside risk involved in that path. This is why I didn’t think we should’ve picked up the option. He plays out his fifth year option or we compound things and pay him even more to stick around a few more seasons. By picking up the option we set the floor for his next Bills contract and he’s just not worth that kind of money. -
Week 1: Rams Week 2: Browns Week 3: Broncos Week 4: Bills
-
Yup. $32M for 3 seasons of JAG level play. That is rough. I wouldn’t care if he was making $2M-$3M a season, but he’s getting paid to make a difference (in a good way) and he’s a long way from that. He has $2M of his 2022 salary guaranteed so he will probably be on the team next season too. At least it’s only $6.5M in new money so he will be less overpaid.

In all seriousness, Trubisky will probably sign somewhere as a Bridge QB. The contract will be in line with that and the Bills will get a Day 3 comp pick. The only way for him to raise his value to the level of a starting QB is for him to play well in multiple meaningful games. That’s not happening here unless Allen misses substantial time with injury - and no Bills fan wants that. Nagy continuing to suck out loud in Chicago will help Trubisky get another look, but his game film sucks too. He’s going to get a chance to put better film out there, but no team is going to pay him large until he does. (*I am not sure how this would play out in comp pick calculations, but we could get lucky on Trubisky’s contract structure if it is based on AAV. If he signs a nominal 5 year deal that’s really a modest one year deal with an option for 4 more years at starting QB rates we might get a better comp pick due to the higher AAV of the whole deal (which he probably won’t see). Again, that’s just speculation based on some knowledge of comp picks and mostly thinking out loud.)

Rookie Josh Allen vs Rookie Zach Wilson
BarleyNY replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall
Well, if he ever had a chance to be a good NFL QB - and I’m not saying that he did - going to the Jest ruined it. -
He’s really losing it. I could not even understand him. They gotta get him off the air. He also said that the Ravens “held on to win”. Not really how one would typically characterize hitting a record setting, game winning FG.

Taron Johnson extension. When and how much?
BarleyNY replied to No_Matter_What's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah. Slot CBs are such a value compared to outside CBs that it makes a lot of sense to pay them their market price. Not only is Johnson our second best CB after Tre, we have no CB of value other than Tre signed past this season. So we should not only sign him, we should do it ASAP. Edited to add: And, yes the 3rd CB is a starter in the NFL today. The 3rd LB, not so much. Teams that use an “Overhang” LB in lieu of the Nickel CB are the exception.
