  1. From PFN’s simulator. I wasn’t targeting a DE high, but sometimes you can’t pass up value. I think that there’s a good chance that we will see that kind of situation at 25. One or two prospects sticking out, but not at immediate need positions. 25. David Ojabo EDGE Michigan 57. Derion Kendrick CB Georgia 89. Alec Lindstrom OC Boston College 129. John Ridgeway DT Arkansas 168. Brian Robinson Jr. RB Alabama 184. Justin Shaffer OG Georgia 202. James Mitchell TE Virginia Tech 229. Jeremiah Gemmel LB North Carolina 244. Chris Oladokun QB South Dakota State
  2. Here’s Spotrac’s list of WRs by AAV. They show Diggs at 20th. Reasonably he could use - deserves - a bump. With two seasons left on his contract there’s a win-win to be had here. Extend him now at a better rate than the Bills would get him at next offseason while Diggs gets some additional cash in hand now and a bump up in AAV that puts him more in line with his performance. The Bills would also benefit from lowering his 2022 cap hit.
  3. Medicals and interviews.
  4. That’s certainly what I thought happened. Rousseau has been better than I thought tho. He’s never going to be a bend the edge guy, which is what I thought we really needed. And I worried about his work ethic since he didn’t seem to train at all for the combine. But he had a solid rookie season doing what he does best - standing up OTs and using his length to shed their blocks to make tackles as the play came by him. I would still argue that it was too high for that kind of DE and that better options at other positions were on the board. He feels a lot like Shaq Lawson to me in that he’s going to be a very tough second contract. Maybe Beane and McDermott think that 4 or 5 cost controlled years at such a high dollar position are worth a late first. Still, I don’t think that you draft a guy in the first unless you think there’s a decent chance you keep him past 5 seasons.
  5. While you can certainly find anecdotal evidence to the contrary, statistically having home field in games is an advantage.
  6. Sometimes what a team needs just isn’t there in a draft. Bad and/or desperate GMs will fool themselves into believing otherwise.
  7. And he’d have to agree to a new contract.
  8. That would be a big overpay for Metcalf. He’s on the last year of his rookie deal and contract parameters are a major factor in any trade. You’re proposing two firsts for a one year WR rental. See the Diggs trade for better parameters and keep in mind that Diggs is a better WR and was on a long term, very reasonable contract. If we were to trade for him the cost would be less than that and a new contract would have to be agreed upon prior to the trade.
  9. It matters if Allen misses significant time but is able to return. Say Allen goes 8-3 in the games he plays in. If a poor backup we’re to go 1-5 or 2-4 we either would not make the playoffs or sneak in as a low WC with no hope of a home game. Someone that could go 3-3 or 4-2 would put us at 11-6 or 12-5. That’s a big difference. That’s why it’s worth having a capable backup.
  10. You are missing or ignoring my point.
  11. They would have to have a trade partner with a QB they wanted lined up and that partner would have to prefer our picks over Young or Sweat. That scenario is unlikely to say the least.
  12. And here as well. From Stephania Bell, fantasy football analyst: “Josh Allen and the Bills were a possession away from the Super Bowl, and they will be back”
  13. I don’t want players who have an issue with being benched for performance reasons on the Bills.
  14. I absolutely hate the “Well, who is going to replace him?” argument. It’s perfectly acceptable to understand that a player isn’t performing up to an acceptable standard for their position or contract. As for replacements in general there’s not much to be said until free agency and the draft anyway. Since Edmunds is here for the 2022 season we’re pretty much down to the draft - and non-premium picks at that - for his long term replacement. I could see them adding a player like Quay Walker or Chad Muma to be his backup this season and develop as a potential replacement for next. I will be extremely disappointed if Beane does not find someone to fill that role. Even if his preference is to sign Edmunds long term, he has to have a contingency plan in case his contract demands are too steep.
  15. Guessing the Chiefs and/or NFL saw to that. Regardless of its veracity of its facts or conclusions, it was not flattering. No way do they want something like this getting wide spread exposure. Gotta protect the shield.
  16. No chance. Not with John Edmund Mulaney in the house.
  17. I don’t disagree. I just wanted to add some detail and context to the discussion.
  18. I have heard that too but I don’t know how that’s possible. He wasn’t practicing at the net before the KO, he was kicking the PAT. It’s not like he hasn’t kicked a PAT then got the following KO call dozens of times.
  19. The way I understand the situation is that he was told to kick it through the end zone, then the coaches changed the call. He didn’t get the changed call. So the kicker was just doing what he was told to do.
  20. I think Allen and Bills made a fair deal. He still had a fourth rookie year and a $23M fifth year option when it got signed. They got rolled up with his extension. It’s complicated, but the additional 5 seasons pay works out to $47M per year. The deal keeps him here through 2028. $47M AAV is a bit high for today, but it is a good approximation of fair market value in 2023 when the new seasons kick in. Also the new broadcasting deals start in 2023 so considering those it actually might be below market. But Allen got a chunk of money early and some real security through guarantees. It was a win-win IMO.
  21. It’s a percentage of revenue. The value of an NFL franchise has skyrocketed too. They’re talking $5B for the Broncos.
  22. You misunderstand me. I am not saying that at all. I guess I wasn’t clear. Football used to be a game played by big, tough men. Then it grew into a game played by physical freaks. Advances in fitness and nutrition (and pharmaceuticals) coupled with the economics involved led to what we have today. The physical damage done by NFL players to each other has necessitated changes in the game. The combination of those very prudent rule changes along with the still very brutal game are both reasons I like it a lot less than I used to. Also maybe because I’m older I know what that punishment leads to down the road.
  23. Yup. I absolutely love football, but the mess the NFL has become only slightly resembles it. With the money now involved and knowing what we know about CTE I doubt we will ever see the game I loved again. Those who love the current iteration are welcome to it.
  24. The Rams are definitely mortgaging their future. The way they spent picks and cap space to upgrade their roster is going to hurt them. It was worth it because they won it all. But there was no guarantee at the time that it would work. They just tried to improve their odds a little bit while they were still in their window. They can probably hold it together a little longer too if they want to. I am good with the Bills being aggressive though. Just not screwing up future seasons aggressive.
