  1. A lot of coaches and teams broke the rules or engaged in other immoral behavior to improve their legacy. People raved about the Steelers great drafts in the ‘70s, but ignored the fact that they were pioneering steroid use at that time. Pretty easy to see how that bought them some championships. But that doesn’t mean that Chuck Noll wasn’t an excellent coach. He was. Belichick is a very, very good coach who broke a number of rules to gain advantages. He also stumbled into the GOAT at QB. That’s a recipe for success until you lose that QB and have to stop cheating. The biggest surprise in all of this is that he stuck around to have Mac Jones at QB and disintegrating team around him. He didn’t even give himself a chance to succeed after Brady left.
  2. He was their starting nickel CB.
  3. It depends on how he plays this year. People are buying the false narrative that he can’t pass when he needs to. I think that you are likely correct. I think he wants out of Roman’s offense.
  4. He knows how that’ll go too. He can refuse to sign the tag and force a trade. Then some team will cough up 3 first round picks plus some later ones as well as a fully guaranteed contract bigger than Watson’s. Just look at what some teams have at QB.
  5. And they’re both better than the Jest
  6. Indeed. Couple teams, including the Phins, look like they’re a FQB away from being very good.
  7. A lot of bettors seem to share your thinking. That line started with GB as 1.5 pt favorites, but moved to Minny by 2.5.
  8. Glad they got something done. Poyer has certainly earned it.
  9. Awhile back I did read that he was having his contracts reviews by lawyers. That was likely in reference to his rookie deal.
  10. The Bills did not have a perfect game and I liked hearing Allen talk about cleaning things up. Still, it was a helluva effort and the intensity was playoff level. The overall play was so good that I just don’t think it’s worth nitpicking at the negatives. It’s a long season and, based on what Allen said, the team sure looks focused on ironing those out. I’d just like to sit back and enjoy this ride.
  11. I agree. It really would take a catastrophic injury though. Dak got paid right after his ankle exploded. That kind of injury would obviously be worse for Lamar, but if he avoids major injury he will make a lot more money this way.
  12. 98% of the time CC just states the obvious and leans into common narratives. I can’t believe he didn’t tell us how great Tom Brady is 52 times yesterday. It’s a shame. He started out terrible, worked at his craft and got really good for awhile before becoming what we see today. In my house if you say something stupid and annoying, there’s a good chance someone will respond with “Shut up, Chris!”
  13. Meh. Seemed like the Bills came to win a game and make a statement while the Rams came to hang their banner and celebrate last season’s SB win. Personally I won’t complain if a year from now the Bills are in the Rams position.
  14. Not saying that it is career defining, just that this isn’t the game for a rookie to be learning on the job.
  15. A soft fumble on your first carry will do that.
  16. That’s a fair response. I wouldn’t give Poyer a contract that was effectively more than a 3 year deal (including this year). And I wouldn’t go near the $16M-$18M AAV range in those first 3 years. If that’s the range Poyer expects, then I’d change my stance. I’d make him play out his deal and then let him walk. Something reasonable to me would be to give him an extension at market rate along with guarantees. Something like an extra $30M between a signing bonus and salaries in 2022-2024. If he wants to try to get more than that in FA after this season, then good luck to him. It’s worth noting that Rosenhaus has given some players bad advice about the contract they can get. Maybe that’s happening here. I don’t think that a deal like that would prohibit the Bills from extending Oliver and Davis (eventually). I’m not an Edmunds fan so I would prefer not to re-sign him. I think Poyer has earned it and they should make a reasonable effort to extend him.
  17. You’re just saying that because the Houston Oilers have won the East Division as many times as the Jest even though they have not played in it for 53 years.
  18. That’s how you know a supposed rival really, really sucks. They’re zero threat so you have room for sympathy. If that ever changes, then they might have become a team that could beat us.
  19. This is gonna be Zach Wilson’s year
  20. Truth. And do you know what people say about Truth? It’s that Truth is like poetry. And no one likes poetry.
  21. I’m interested in a lot of things tonight. First and foremost I want the usual: a win with good execution and no significant injuries. But I’m also interested in some specifics: - What Dorsey’s offense looks like and how he calls plays. - How the OL has gelled and how they pass block. - How do Von Miller and Rousseau work together? Both are LDEs (over RT). One has to move to RDE. I expect that to be Rousseau, but that’s not a given. - How the CBs fare. It may not be a fair test for them, but it’s their first one. Did I miss anything?
  22. He’s 31 and there has been no decline at all in his play. Quite the contrary. He’s playing the best football of his life. A 4 year extension would put Poyer under contract for 5 seasons. Guarantees could be kept to 2 seasons worth of salary. That would give him some security while keeping a First Team All Pro in our secondary through his elite seasons. He’d be here at least until age 32 with the option to keep him around through age 35 if he held up physically. Or we could get out as early as after next season if he doesn’t. There is always the possibility that one side in this negotiation is being unreasonable. But I wouldn’t pin that on either until we hear some actual facts. As for a successor, there was not a depth safety that the Bills deemed worthy of taking snaps away from Hyde or Poyer last season. If they intend to move on from Poyer after this season and they think they have the right guy on the team, then I’d expect to see that player get some meaningful snaps this season.
  23. I can see McD and Beane making a decision based on that, but not posters here. Also I’m doing them a favor by not including their preseason performances. This preseason all of them gave up passer ratings over 105 when the ball was thrown to their coverage responsibility. Vanilla coverage, etc. applies, but it’s still not a plus.
  24. People keep talking about their faith in our developed backup safeties. I’m not sure why though as none of them have really the field. Last season Poyer and Hyde each played over 1,100 snaps, nearly 100% of the meaningful ones during the course of the season. Jaquan Johnson was third at 146. Hamlin and Lewis had 131 combined. Anyone have a better reason than blind faith? And please do better than preseason games.
