You gotta take emotion out of the equation at times like this. WRs at the bottom of the depth chart have to be good returners or have potential for upside. You can give guys a chance, but you turn them over when they don’t pan out.

They’re probably using him wrong and they don’t have a good enough DL in front of him. Also he MADE A PRO BOWL (second team All Pro!) and is still really young for a player drafted in 2016. He is basically still a rookie.

The minimum for a vet with four accrued years is $1.035M. I expect that to be his contract. I do not believe that he is eligible for a VSB cap credit because he wasn’t with us for those four years. If his contract is a lot bigger than that, then that’s a different story.

You are making the exact unfounded assumption I was referring to. Kumerow made the most he ever had for a season in 2021. He made $920k. I expect he won’t be making much more this season IF he even makes the team. I also expect zero (or very close to zero) guaranteed money. If that’s incorrect and his pay jumps to triple last year’s salary, then we can all complain. But there’s no reason to think that will be the case.

Lotta people getting worked up without seeing contract specifics. Probably a very modest contract with little or no guaranteed money.

I’m honestly not sure what you’re saying. DE depth “was not a problem”? Last year? Or this year prior to any signings? Because we have 3 Edge player that have any value at all under contract for 2022 right now: Rousseau, Epenesa and Basham. That’s it, unless you’re counting free agents or players that we already know won’t make our 53 (Bryan Cox & Mike Love). I don’t know about you, but that group is extremely underwhelming to me and I see almost no depth as Basham is still a big question mark.

Absolutely. But a lot of DEs can set the edge but can’t get to the QB. The edge setting kind is about all the Bills have right now anyway.

I heard from a knowledgeable source that Washington and Philly both offered more than the Broncos. Wilson would not waive his No Trade Clause for them. He wanted to go to Denver so Seattle got what they could from them.

Stopping the run when you need to do that is important (obviously). Cheap depth guys like Lawson are a good way to address that. I’m not enthusiastic about using first round picks or spending large on players who primarily do that however.

I don’t think a signing like Lawson points to anything other than that the Bills are addressing DE depth. 13 seasons and over $79M in earnings. If he plays another year for $3M or so it will be because he wants a ring and/or still loves playing. At some point it becomes about how your body is holding up and how far you want to push that though. He will be 34 for next season.

Lotta fans take too much of an extreme view of the cap - either we can sign whomever we want or we can only dumpster dive. Neither is true. The Bills are at the point where they have to make decisions that involve real trade offs. It’s the point where you see what kind of GM and organization you really have.

Well, the Rams left after 1945. The Browns did win 4 AAFC championships from 1946-1949 and 4 NFL championships in 1950, 1954, 1955 and 1964. So they had a pretty good run immediately after the Rams left. It’s since then that has been the issue.

I’m sitting here trying to think of what another team would have to give me to take on Wentz and his contract.

Dunno. Seems like they are ready to part ways with him though. They aren’t extending him and there’s only one season left on his contract. They could make him play it out, but it seems like they’d be better off getting something for him and going with the youngster (or GOAT). They could use the cap space too.

The Rams started in Cleveland but left because they did not think that they could compete with the Browns. Their last season in Cleveland was the one before the Browns first. IIRC they were only in Cleveland for about 10 years before moving to LA for something like 50. Then to St Louis for 20ish and back to LA. The Rams are much more LA’s team than anyone else’s.

If inexpensive I wouldn’t have an issue with bringing back Lawson. My concern is that he would preclude us from signing an effective pass rusher as it doesn’t make sense to go beyond 4 deep at DE. Plus a developmental 5th player. If he didn’t have any guarantees he could fight for a spot and that wouldn’t be an issue.

The weirdest thing about him is that with his physical abilities there’s no reason he shouldn’t have been affecting the passing game. I get why people get excited about him when they think of what he could become, but what percentage do you give that? I don’t think he makes it to 25, but he seems like the kind of prospect the Bills would draft there if he is.

It helps to remember that the team was in LA before it moved to St. Louis.
