  1. Meh. Seemed like the Bills came to win a game and make a statement while the Rams came to hang their banner and celebrate last season’s SB win. Personally I won’t complain if a year from now the Bills are in the Rams position.
  2. Not saying that it is career defining, just that this isn’t the game for a rookie to be learning on the job.
  3. That’s a fair response. I wouldn’t give Poyer a contract that was effectively more than a 3 year deal (including this year). And I wouldn’t go near the $16M-$18M AAV range in those first 3 years. If that’s the range Poyer expects, then I’d change my stance. I’d make him play out his deal and then let him walk. Something reasonable to me would be to give him an extension at market rate along with guarantees. Something like an extra $30M between a signing bonus and salaries in 2022-2024. If he wants to try to get more than that in FA after this season, then good luck to him. It’s worth noting that Rosenhaus has given some players bad advice about the contract they can get. Maybe that’s happening here. I don’t think that a deal like that would prohibit the Bills from extending Oliver and Davis (eventually). I’m not an Edmunds fan so I would prefer not to re-sign him. I think Poyer has earned it and they should make a reasonable effort to extend him.
  4. You’re just saying that because the Houston Oilers have won the East Division as many times as the Jest even though they have not played in it for 53 years.
  5. That’s how you know a supposed rival really, really sucks. They’re zero threat so you have room for sympathy. If that ever changes, then they might have become a team that could beat us.
  6. Truth. And do you know what people say about Truth? It’s that Truth is like poetry. And no one likes poetry.
  7. I’m interested in a lot of things tonight. First and foremost I want the usual: a win with good execution and no significant injuries. But I’m also interested in some specifics: - What Dorsey’s offense looks like and how he calls plays. - How the OL has gelled and how they pass block. - How do Von Miller and Rousseau work together? Both are LDEs (over RT). One has to move to RDE. I expect that to be Rousseau, but that’s not a given. - How the CBs fare. It may not be a fair test for them, but it’s their first one. Did I miss anything?
  8. He’s 31 and there has been no decline at all in his play. Quite the contrary. He’s playing the best football of his life. A 4 year extension would put Poyer under contract for 5 seasons. Guarantees could be kept to 2 seasons worth of salary. That would give him some security while keeping a First Team All Pro in our secondary through his elite seasons. He’d be here at least until age 32 with the option to keep him around through age 35 if he held up physically. Or we could get out as early as after next season if he doesn’t. There is always the possibility that one side in this negotiation is being unreasonable. But I wouldn’t pin that on either until we hear some actual facts. As for a successor, there was not a depth safety that the Bills deemed worthy of taking snaps away from Hyde or Poyer last season. If they intend to move on from Poyer after this season and they think they have the right guy on the team, then I’d expect to see that player get some meaningful snaps this season.
  9. I can see McD and Beane making a decision based on that, but not posters here. Also I’m doing them a favor by not including their preseason performances. This preseason all of them gave up passer ratings over 105 when the ball was thrown to their coverage responsibility. Vanilla coverage, etc. applies, but it’s still not a plus.
  10. People keep talking about their faith in our developed backup safeties. I’m not sure why though as none of them have really the field. Last season Poyer and Hyde each played over 1,100 snaps, nearly 100% of the meaningful ones during the course of the season. Jaquan Johnson was third at 146. Hamlin and Lewis had 131 combined. Anyone have a better reason than blind faith? And please do better than preseason games.
  11. I have not heard about that exactly. It sounds great though. I did have something similar at the Carnegie Deli in NYC. I’m not sure what they called it but it was similar - I want to say it was pastrami and turkey with Swiss (and maybe coleslaw). It was freaking huge and the pastrami was soooo good I ended up eating that and leaving the turkey. I only got there once (ditto NYC), but I’m sad they closed.
  12. I cured a brisket flat. Half is for corned beef tonight and half is pastrami tomorrow. Reuben sandwiches and then pastrami sandwiches tomorrow. I hate sauerkraut so I’ll be replacing that with coleslaw in mine.
  13. At first blush this is pretty much where I am. The counter arguments are: - potential, like Njoku he’s got traits that haven’t fully translated to production (yet) - scarcity, not a lot of even solid TEs out there so it’s $14M AAV for Knox, draft one early next year and hope or overpay on the FA market if you can even find a good match. We saw what NE just paid for their TEs so I see why we’d want to avoid that. - market direction, while $14M seems like an overpay, the cost of capable TEs seems to be exploding and the cap is doing the same Poyer can’t be happy about this. I’m hoping we either pay him or he blocks this out and has another All Pro season so he gets paid by someone next season. I’m not going to slam this though. The Bills were in a tough spot here. They probably just did what they had to do. * Opinions subject to revision upon contract details becoming available.
  14. It’s funny about Tasker. I genuinely find him likable even though I don’t think he’s very good at the media stuff. I do like his (former) player perspective angle.
  15. Good point about the OC change. But I disagree about Tre. When he’s playing up to his ability they can roll coverage away from him. A limited or sidelined Tre limits the defensive options.
  16. Honestly, this isn’t a worry of mine. The meat grinder that is the AFC right now is.
  17. That’s a fair take then. I don’t think much of either Trubisky or Keenum so I’d leave it as a push. I can see the possibility that Keenum is better though. He’s certainly not worse.
  18. I am with you. The money and fame of playing in the NFL is part of a package deal though. People prying into the personal lives of the players is definitely one of the downsides of it.
  19. QB….= Josh was about as good as you get last season, not sure how you can expect more RB….=/+ Marginal improvement possible with Cook, but it’s unproven FB….= Sure WR…+ Agree if this is because Davis improved last season TE….= agree OL….= This is a worry. On paper they got better at run blocking and worse at pass blocking. Overall they might be a push, but for this team I think it could be a real negative l. DE….+ Agree. I’d give it a ++ as Miller is a huge addition DT….+ Probably LB….= agree CB….- agree, and it’s a real worry. With Tre coming back from injury there might be a very big drop off S……= agree, though the dings are a worry Specials….= agree
