  1. I’ve been pleased with Elam. I had concerns with his game, but the big caveat was that was based on only one college game where I watched him on every play. One PI and one Holding penalty on him so far. That’s not egregious. He seems a willing tackler too which is good, because there seemed little question of his toughness in general. My guess is that his total unwillingness to tackle in the game I watched was due to him trying to stay healthy for the draft and not an intrinsic trait of his. His play has been solid, which is very good for a rookie playing in his first handful of NFL games.
  2. I think the person who wrote this is missing an enormous point - CMC’s value in the passing game, especially against C-2 and other concepts that aim to limit deep throws. He also would likely limit Josh’s designed runs, which I’d be in favor of during the regular season. Injury and trade cost concerns aside, CMC would be an amazing addition for Buffalo. The problem with trading for him is that those concerns are so substantial. But those are different arguments.
  3. Injury history is my concern with CMC. If we were to include Singletary in a trade then we would be starting Cook or Moss if CMC gets hurt. That would make us worse off this season. If we don’t include Singletary, then how are we not including a first? That’s steep. A healthy CMC is a perfect fit for the Bills. His impact against teams playing over the top defenses would be enormous. I would certainly rather see him do that for the Bills than the Chefs. But that’s if he can stay healthy….. it’s a hell of a gamble and I think someone takes it. I just don’t know which team. I’ll say this though, if CMC wants to be a Bill and tanks his value with a tantrum I won’t hold it against him.
  4. The dead cap stays with the Panthers. A team trading for him takes on his minimum salary for this season and three seasons at about $12M each, but ZERO of that is guaranteed except for a $1M injury guarantee next season.
  5. This. If the defense is taking away the deep pass, which is what all seem to be moving to against good QBs, then they expect a quick pass. That means the DL knows they can’t get to the QB and is instead is looking to bat down that quick pass. When those DL get two hands up and expose their bodies, you want to see the OL make them pay for it though.
  6. Yup. Curiosity is understandable, but it shouldn’t supersede respect.
  7. This reminds me that I was going to start a thread about all the mistakes the Bills made in their playoff game against the Pats* last year. Sure, they scored touchdowns on every offensive possession, but they missed TWO extra points and gave up 17. Disgraceful that it wasn’t 49-0. Hell, if they’d have made the Pats* go 3-and-out every possession they could’ve scored 70. So much left on the field that day.
  8. Yup. You just hope that blown calls don’t determine the outcome. There’s always some call made or not made that fans can complain about. Funny how you don’t see fans of the winners gripe that often - present thread excepted. There was an obvious hold by the Bills after the trip and I said to my daughter’s bf who’d been complaining about the trip, “If the Bills lose, our fans will complain about the trip not getting called. If the Chiefs lose, their fans will complain about that hold or something other call or non call. It’s just how things are.”
  9. While teams do run different schemes, Nickel is the base for every team in the league now and has been for awhile. The Bills are a bit unusual in that they play Nickel (4-2-5) almost exclusively. But that’s because of Tauron Johnson and his ability to play the run so well, not because of Edmunds.
  10. It’s in this thread. I used it as a point of discussion because I thought it was a respectable offer and it’s right where I would tap out.
  11. No. No one is going to confirm anything about mid season trade talks. A lot of BS is going to be floating around too. That’s why I started my comment with “if reports are true”.
  12. I agree he’d be a huge weapon here. But they aren’t taking Moss and a 3rd even with a sweetener. If reports are true that Carolina turned down Motor and our 2nd then I tap out. If CMC had a better injury history I’d go higher, but not with a real possibility of him not being available for the playoffs.
  13. I agree. She’s 47. It’s not like he’s 55 and she’s 21. This is one of the least creepy things I’ve be seen Kraft do.
  14. Criminally poor OL for da Bearce. The shots Fields is taking hurts me.
  15. Its easy to say “sign him” but what value do you put on him in terms of contract? That’s the real issue.
  16. https://www.sharpfootballanalysis.com/betting/nfl-referee-assignments-penalty-trends-betting-impact/amp/ Jerome Boger: Referee Penalty Trends & How it may impact betting Boger’s officiating style can be considered offense friendly. His approach creates the opportunity for offenses to excel with his combination of very few offensive holding penalties with an above average count in defensive pass interference & defensive holding penalties. As a result Boger has been a solid Over referee in his career. 53-41 over (56%) since 2016 21-12 over (64%) in Division match-ups since 2016 19-12 over (62%) in 2020/2021 NFL seasons Called fewest offensive holding penalties in 2021 & 3rd fewest in 2020 Boger ranks in the mid tier range in calling defensive pass interference & his crew always provides the possibility of a penalty to extend drives. Jerome Boger was the referee for SB XLVII, a Ravens 34-31 victory vs 49ers. More recently he officiated the 2021 Wild Card matchup Raiders at Bengals which was marred by bad calls including the errant whistle blown on the Joe Burrow TD pass to Tyler Boyd in the Bengals 26-19 win.
  17. In my first response I allowed for an honest mistake by the doc. That’s not the same as people claiming that the Dolphins somehow arranged to get a concussed Tua back in the field.
  18. Lol. Speaking of being naive, how many doctors are going to put their career on the line for that? And why would an owner even want a concussed player on the field? Not to mention exerting that influence on a doctor during the 15 minutes he had to get cleared. Do you seriously think that Ross carried a bag of money down and handed it to a doc so he’d clear a concussed Tua to play QB? And we’re not even considering the fact that Bridgewater is probably a better quarterback than Tua. The NFL did bury the long term effects of head trauma on players for a lot of years. But that’s far different than an owner putting a concussed QB back on the field because, you know, QBs need to be able to think clearly and quickly to do their jobs. That’s the dumbest part of this whole conspiracy. That an owner or HC would even want a mentally impaired QB on the field.
  19. The specific myth people keep repeating is that the Dolphins skirted the rules by clearing him and sending him back out on the field. It’s not their call, it’s the NFL’s neurotrauma consultant’s decision to make him available.
  20. Agreed. People are propagating a myth that the Phins put Tua back on the field after an obvious concussion. That’s simply not how it works. An independent NFL neurotrauma consultant cleared him. Is it possible that Tua was concussed and still cleared protocol? Sure, everyone is capable of mistakes and even experts do not know everything about concussions and how the human body reacts to them. But it is unlikely with the steps the NFL has been taking to protect players from head injury - and themselves from associated lawsuits.
  21. I agree. It’s probably not going to be bad enough to impact the game. If it does I’d say advantage Bills. Specifically if Lamar can’t make his usual cuts and if it eliminates RBs from making cutbacks it’s a big advantage to Buffalo. I don’t know that it’ll be enough rain for that tho.
  22. A lot has to do with the punter crushing the ball on the free kick. That made the safety worse for us. There was no way he would’ve gotten a good punt off squished into his EZ so we’d have been in excellent field position. Still, we’d have needed a TD but on something like a 35 or 40 yard drive. (Maybe less.) As it stood we needed to get about the same yardage AND make a FG. Miami should’ve probably just taken the safety on purpose. Too much could’ve gone wrong on the punt, including a Bills TD. They got lucky it worked out for them.
  23. Yup. Is Saquon Barkley really the guy to put the Bills over the top? At the cost of eeking out the last little bit of cap space we could maneuver? I really don’t think so. Don’t get me wrong, when healthy he’s a very good RB. I honestly wouldn’t hate it if we had plenty of cap space. His salary isn’t crazy and we’d be due a future comp pick after he signed elsewhere. But not with where we are today. We don’t have the luxury.
  24. I agree. Last season it seemed to be by design. Beane collected effective pass blockers at the expense of players who excelled at run blocking. There’s obviously a cost savings there versus players who are good at both. But the OL changes in the off-season seemed to be a reversal where they added some better run blockers who aren’t as good in pass pro. Injuries have taken a toll so it’s tough to see how it’s really working out. The new direction was a concern of mine coming into the season though. I thought it might mean seeing the Bills utilize a traditional running game more, but I didn’t want that to come at the expense of Allen seeing more pressure and hits.
