  1. I certainly understand that. I/O's are going to be your bottle neck. I guess i would say go as big as you can afford then. The other option is, while i enjoy this board as a free discussion board, i'm not apposed to paying a reasonable membership fee. It would help offset some or all of your costs. As i said, i enjoy this site, but one person should not have to be the sole bearer of the cost to support the site if it's costing even half of 7200 bucks. Fwiw BigPappy
  2. Okay, i am typing on a tablet so forgive me if i mis type some stuff. first and foremost, the location of the server is inconsiquental as long as the internet connection is adiquite. The specs you are looking at are okay buy not really enough for what you are doing. The SSD card is great for your OS installation. It's lightning quick with boot ups vs. a standard hard drive. The biggext issue i see is the Memory. You going to be running IIS and most likely a version of SQL Server express or MySQL for any of the backend databases so you want at least 32 gb's of Ram. I would recommand 48 though. My rule of thumb is you never can have enough ram. What SDS was saying for your hard drives is correct. I/O or ihops for the hard drives is going to be the most critical part in regards to performance especially on game day. The more reads and writes your drives can perform the less lag will be noticed. SSD hard drives would be great for this but are very cost prohibitive. The larger drives get VERY expensive. SCSi drives are not necessarily the way to go any more since sata drives became available. Their cheaper than SCSi drives as well. Also while technically 2 drives running on a raid controller are considered configured for raid, i don't. A pair of drives on a raid are striped, and any data that is corrupt is Usually currupted on both drives because of this. I would recommend buying 3 or 4 drives and running them as raid 5. If you buy 3 drives the third is used for redundancy. Buy 3 3tb drives, you get 6tb's of storage and the third is used as the hot swap drive if one of the others fails. It's the same therory if you were to buy 4 drives. As for backups, there are litterally dozens of options for you. That said, all Microsoft servers come mith ms backup. Its a decent product. More than adiquite for what your doing. For backup storage i would recommend a massive external hard drive to store your backups. New ones are usb3 and are very fast. I would not recommend cloud storage, especially if you have large amounts of data because the restore process will be much slower than a local external storage device. Uploads of backups to the cloud can take days because upload speeds are restricted to usually 1.5 mb, 5 mb, or 10mb. 1.5 mb or 5 mb or the norm. Hope this helps. If it means anything, this is what i do and have been doing it now for almost 20 years. If you have any other questions or what to talk more detialed you can send me a p.m. BigPappy
  3. I don't know much about College Football, but what little I do know, I would have to agree. I don't see a "guaranteed" franchise QB in this coming draft that I would have to have, and yes, EJ may yet come around and find his wings. BigPappy
  4. Forgot about Matt Ryan. I would put him into the better than average category. Like you say, it would never happen, but I like the scenario. BigPappy
  5. First, lets name off the elite QB's that are currently playing. P. Manning, Rothlesburger, Brees, Brady, Rogers, and maybe Andrew Luck who more likely falls into the better than average category. Next, list the better than average QB's. R. Wilson, Kaepernick, E. Manning, Flaco and maybe Nick Foles. All other QB's until proven otherwise are serviceable. We already have (clearing my throat and making a funny face...) serviceable. Now.....of the above list of Elite and better than average could be available via FA or an all out trade. Forget the Elite QB list, we wont get one...they wont be available for any amount of picks or players for trade. Team's do not get rid of elite QB's! Out of the better than average pile, who might be available as a trade pick up or FA? Maybe Kaepernick or Flaco, based on performance this year, but I don't see SF dropping or trading Kaep. Flaco is probably the only QB we or any other team looking for a veteran QB would have a legit opportunity of getting. I would be okay with Flaco, he is definitely better than Orten! Flame away!!! 6. It's funny you say this. I was thinking exactly this. He was use to playing in a Dome in Indy. He can play when its cold, but when it is frigged out, he does not play well. BigPappy
  7. Ding ding ding.....We have a winner! Tell him what he won Bob! BigPappy
  8. We have a winner here!!!!! 100% on the money. BigPappy
  9. Solid coaching Tree....What does that even mean any more. All these new coaches that get labeled with that STIGMA....yes I call it a stigma, are so far removed from the top of that so called coaching tree, they have become watered down versions of its original. Have you ever seen the movie Multiplicity with Michael Keaton? He makes a copy of himself so he has more free time. Well the copy gets tired of doing all the crap and eventually makes a copy of himself...and when you make a copy of a copy its never as sharp as the original. The same theory applies here. BigPappy
  10. Promo....Your half's are equal to more than one forum board. How many Bills forum boards do we have? LOL!...Just kidding, I know what you mean. BigPappy
  11. It will definitely be in the first quarter. Probably on the second 3 down the Bills have killing the drive and placing us just out of field goal distance. BigPappy
  12. (Insert running backs name here) Up the middle for two yard gain. BigPappy
  13. There is a phrase used in Football, and it is used for good reason. That phrase is ...."Any given Sunday" Any team, and I mean ANY team can show up and play tough. BigPappy
  14. Defense looked told befuddled BigPappy
  15. Need a group to rush the field and bust the refs right in the mouth. BigPappy
  16. I would not be surprised if this was actually true. BigPappy
  17. Fox has to get rid of the football player robots!
  18. I love Jackson's td celebration! BigPappy
  19. I guess we have had a good TE all this time, it was a qb that we were missing! BigPappy
  20. Orton has to look his way first!
  21. Getting sick to watch. The offense needs to step up and actually perform. The defense can't keep carrying this team. BigPappy
  22. TBD Top 3 Quotes... #3 #2 And the #1 Quote .......Loved this one because it's just so true. (ie, the Brady Rule, Video Gate...etc..) BigPappy
  23. Everyone said the same thing about Pettine and he was gone after one year. While Buffalo's D was pretty decent last year they still sucked against the run. While I think Pettine is a good coordinator, I didn't think he deserved a shot as a HC after just one year of bringing a horrible defense to an okay defense. BigPappy
  24. Wow, what a shock....another run play! Wtf! BigPappy
