If only we had such a clean slate last year to get a coach and offensive talent and a decent qb he could have sat behind if our pick was high enough to take him
Next year is the clean slate, which is why I won't give up on Allen this year. He needs to learn, he needs the reps. It's painful to watch sure. But Beane really has an opportunity this off season to completely remold the offense around him. We can only hope it goes well.

The situation the way it is? I get he is a rookie and may play poorly all year and the Bills may lose as a result. But do we have to be blind to that and blame other things? The QB play is the number one problem, its worse than WR, its certainly worse than OL or play calling. He is not processing anything post snap, there have been a lot of opportunities to complete passes but he is not seeing it fast enough to execute. Players are open contrary to what some believe. The drops are not a huge percentage of anything
Competing for contested throws has been a problem though, there were a couple today you'd wish Zay and Benjamin had stepped into. It's definitely a mix of iffy throws and poor effort on the receivers part. Only a couple times a game do I recall being like wow, that was just a bad pass. So while he isn't processing as quickly as you'd like, the coaches don't seem to be doing him any favors for the most part. It is just really a cluster !@#$ on the offensive side of the ball right now, and McD doesn't have the expertise to fix it.
-
Biggest redo would be to treat Allen like the guy you traded up to #7 to get and give him the reps instead of making him compete with two scrubs. Second biggest would be to find someone who knows how to scout wide outs because whoever is doing it now is !@#$ing awful at it.

Daboll's play book.
Listen that playbook worked for me for years. Plus Lawerence Taylor was unstoppable.

Funny how I make this argument all the time and get lambasted by people who don't understand football. Mahomes has everything he could possibly want or need to be successful. Explosive running back, a top 5 tight end, great wide receivers and an offensive genius/future Hall of Fame coach.

I want Daboll on the damn sideline. He should be sitting right next to Allen after every drive. Bringing Anderson in to attempt to do Daboll's job is just bull ****.

I knew this would happen. We'd draft a guy high and everyone expects him to be the best QB in the league from day one and are ready to move on after 4 games. This fanbase is what is really wrong with the Buffalo Bills. New Era Field is the biggest bar in Buffalo, people aren't loyal to the team they're loyal to the booze.

Why do you think McDermott is a great coach.
I mean, look at the results from last year. A lesser coach and that's a 5-11 team. And this year, the change in the defense is unprecedented, from getting absolutely destroyed for 6 quarters to probably top 5 in the league. But as I said, his loyalties get him into trouble. Benjamin shouldn't be here, Peterman shouldn't be here. He makes big decisions based on those types of things and it gets him into trouble.

By default, they committed to a rookie an who is bad. The rest of the year is about hoping he improves. Don't even want to fire Beans even if he blew the Allen pick. Let's give him a 2nd draft and a ton of money and see what happens.
Yea everyone in LA thought the Rams blew the Goff pick too. Then they go out, rebuild the line and get a considerable amount of weapons for him to throw too and suddenly he's good. I wonder if Woods or Kupp told Goff "no" when he was looking for extra reps before a game. We've got an aging McCoy, Clay and....

EDIT: Nvm. Bad link he's still there.

McDermott is a great coach. But his loyalties will be the end of him. He's gotta learn this is a business and you stay in business by winning. And you've got to be business enough to admit when a guy isn't working out, even when it's "your guy." Benjamin, Casitllo and Peterman come to mind.

Interesting point. But I think the problem with guys like Brennan is they lacked physical skills and most likely peaked in college. It’s why I hated Manziel. He simply didn’t have the physical skills.
Imo, super college production without physical skills guarantees nothing. Good production plus physical skills equals a high draft pick. And lack of production plus physical skills equals prospect qb, which rarely succeed on the next level.
Of course this can happen and I think every Bills fans who doubts Allen would be very happy about this. I’d also point out that Goff had like 50 tds in a power 5 conference and received possibly the best offensive coach in the nfl. Allen wasn’t dominatin the MWC and had Brian Daboll, who has a terrible OC record in the nfl.
and the counter to your point is EJ Manuel after his first 4 games, which are completely superior to Allen. And I defended EJ! But I pray you are right.
You defended EJ? Even though with that weird throwing motion where he was trying to aim with his arm rather than his eyes? 5 300 yard games in 3 years, all coming against their "preseason" opponents?
How about Case Keenum as a guy with a bunch of stats that took years to start? And even then only by virtue of two injuries?
QB is crap shoot because it isn't just the player, it's the team, it's the coaching, it's the environment. The Bills front office even explained that Josh fit "The Process" so I don't know how much fans talk about was actually taken into account.
-
The bigger question here is, how often do fans knee jerk over 4 games and then look like fools a couple years down the road? I know Rams fans know what I'm talking about.
-
Must be easy to scout players in hindsight.
-
All I can say is that if Anderson signs and starts for any reason but injury than this front office and coaching staff is a bust.

He's also throwing 60x a game. You want to talk about no talent on offense...they've done ZERO for the guy his entire career. It's almost comical how little help they've given Luck.
That's Indy's MO. With a complete team around Peyton, Brady would have a lot less rings. But no. QB and that's it. No defense, no running game.

The difference between Dilfer and Allen is Dilfer was recruited, had success at the collegiate level and then was drafted 6th overall. Josh has had a much different road to being selected 7th overall. With it comes the mental toughness that guys like Dilfer lack. Josh has always fought for his spot. That's the biggest reason I wanted to see him start. He has the toughness to learn on the fly and the adversity will teach him, not break him.

The early grades are in for this year's class from CBS:
* Mayfield A-
* Rosen C+
* Darnold D +
+ Allen D +
it wasn't pretty.
"Stats: 55 of 103, (53.4% completion), 666 yards (6.5 yards per attempt) 2 TDs, 4 INTs, 63.8 QB Rating
Like Darnold, the times Allen has moved quickly from his first to his second read have been few and far between. Also like Darnold, Allen hasn't been comfortable moving away from any semblance of pressure inside the pocket. He too has been forced to throw with defenders -- and offensive linemen -- in his face due to a lack of pocket presence. All of that has led to a high amount of sacks, and Buffalo's offensive line has been average at its absolute best, particularly against the blitz. He's dealt with plenty of drops as well. Allen's proven to be a commodity as a runner, both on scrambled and designed plays.
He's had a handful of clear-cut misfires but when kept clean and when his initial read has gotten open quickly, Allen's thrown with major velocity and good accuracy without ball-placement problems. His pass-catching options are the worst of 2018's first-round quarterbacks who've started thus far, and he hasn't seen as many quickly open first-read targets as his signal-caller contemporaries. Also, what's likely a plan to accentuate his arm strength, the Bills' scheme has been mostly vertical based, and while Allen has taken many shots beyond 20 yards, there have been a couple of times he hasn't pulled the trigger downfield to give his receivers a chance to make play.
Either way, given the offensive line, his shaky pocket presence, and current tendency to lock onto his first read, Allen would benefit from more quick-game elements in Buffalo's offense. In the second half against the Packers in Week 4, he was much more calm in the pocket and more decisive than in any other half of football I've seen him play at the NFL level, but Allen was not moving quickly to his second read. "
Glad I'm not the only one that sees this. Gotta start working some bubble screens and quick outs into this offense. I understand that he has a big arm and they want to utilize that strength but that's a part of the play calling that opens up after you get teams to respect the short and intermediate routes. I mean I know the receivers are bad but the play calling isn't helping them one bit. No adjustment to the amount of blitzes we're seeing and no attempt to mitigate their effectiveness with quick throws and outside run plays. There's just a lot of inexperience on and off the field right now and it's tough to watch everyone trying to figure it out.

To be fair, hers does seem to be a little quieter on the highway, but I do LOVE Toyotas.
I have a 99 ES300 and while it is technically a shared platform with the Camry and Avalon, it is setup different suspension wise and they must use better foam for the weather strips or something because it is still nice and quiet after 20 years and 200k.
I always have old Toyotas and that's the reason I always recommend them. They have switched to a new global platform and we've recently started getting parts that say made in China so I can't vouch for the brand new ones.

Toyota. Not an impartial opinion though. Work at a Toyota dealer, have only owned Toyota's save for a couple Sentras in my youth. I will say though, the newer Colorados/Canyons have a waaayyyy nicer interior than the Tacomas. I find the newer Tacomas to be uncomfortable with a cramped cabin. We have one for a parts truck and I dred driving it.

So you prefer your Toyota to your wife's Toyota.

This threads will keep popping up so I'll keep responding the same way. Unless drafting Mahomes meant also getting the playmakers he has around him and Andy Reid as head coach...
It's not to take anything away from Mahomes but to deny that he didn't inherit a playoff team with one of the best head coaches in the league is a little nuts. And to say Allen wouldn't be great in his own regard in a situation like that is also crazy.
I would say that if Mahomes makes or breaks your fanhood of the Bills, buy his jersey, get yourself Sunday ticket and root for the Chiefs.
The rest of us will keep watching the Bills, understanding that we have a raw rookie QB behind a non existent offensive line with zero playmakers and will keep hoping that this trial by fire will help Allen learn what he needs to.
