This is stupid, I guarantee you my neighborhood has more guns per person then any liberal city and our crime in the 22 years I have lived here had consisted of teenagers egging houses and breaking into unlocked cars about 8 years ago. There is literally no evidence that more guns leads to more crime, unless you are only counting gun crimes. You are retired and the world has changed, not sure how you do not realize how much academia has changed in the past 25 years. Also the cost benefit is based on people who are 50+ and not discussing those who have the worthless degrees that cost 200k that have only existed for 25 years. Lastly my son has an open socialist as his philosophy professor, so the students might be less the problem then the professors.

I can't take credit for this realization but the only people who currently are concerned about COVID, beyond the usual flu, are those vaccinated against it. As in any job, most teachers are good people but the bad ones pretend they are "brave" by validating this insanity. Kids often go to the adult that tells them what they want to hear and terrible adults do that.

Things I have noticed accelerate over the past few years: 1) parents fighting for their children to be labeled disabled such as dysgraphia and auditory issues and literally going to specialists to ensure that the standard for their child is lowered. 2) parents thinking that it is appropriate to contact college professors to "advocate" for their child while acting like their child is 11 not 21. 3) parents lying to their children about what they have accomplished. This might not be new but just more open about it. I had a student whose parents acted like their 3.5 weighted GPA is enough to go to Gainesville, when a 5.0 is not a guarantee. 4) immediately suing a school district before even trying to fix it, basically trying to hit the lawsuit lottery. It is all making teaching harder because as much I like 98% of the kids about 20% of parents think it is my job to help their kids more than them.
