Kaepernick said he was doing it because he didn't have pride in his country because of how the country oppresses people of color. I understand why he feels that way. But I don't know why it's so hard to see that some people who do have pride in their country are hurt by that. The anthem used to be about national unity. Now it has become yet another culture war battlefield. Seems unfortunate to me. I also think Kaepernick is getting too much credit for the change in the national mood. The mood would have changed without him kneeling.
