The Yankee's want a new stadium, too?
Arkady Renko replied to BILLS02138's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The stadium, though, is pretty nice considering its age. In the end I think it's better for the Yankees to spend less money on both improving the existing stadium and perhaps providing some contribution to area improvements as well. -
I have doubts about all former Broncos running backs.

The Yankee's want a new stadium, too?
Arkady Renko replied to BILLS02138's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah the Yankees are now willing to pay for their own stadium and I think they have more of a right to ask for help than the Jets. However, the investment of $300 mil for outlying improvements is a lot. It still is better spent than the Jets stadium, in my opinion. Especially considering the Yankees have been more loyal to the state and the city, despite previous threats to move to NJ. This is much more realistic the proprosals made under Giuliani a few years back. I still think the current Yankees stadium is good enough, they just needs some rennovations inside and outside the stadium. I think they are giving up too much history by moving. However close that might be. Again, I am a Yankee-hater, but I am trying to look at this objectively. *I never meant to say that the Yankees were not building their own stadium, but I believe they want land and outlying improvements that cost significant public money. Therefore the building of the stadium ends up costing significant public money. I was loose with my language as I lumped together building a stadium with the team's funds with building the stadium, buying the land and adding infrastructure improvements, and for that I apologize. Sorry also in general for the brain-farting and offense that it caused. I have tried to clean up my mess as much as possible.* -
I think worst than being on the Wall of Shame is not being on any Wall of Anything.

It is quite reasonable to be bothered by what was said. I don't care what excuse there might be for their actions. Inappropriate fan behavior should be criticized no matter what the socioeconomic status of the people involved. If I go broke, is it okay for me to start punching people on Wall Street because they have it better than me? Or if that analogy doesn't work, is it okay for me to make fun of the death of their parents because they have it better than me? Lumping in all of the Mexican soccer fans with the behavior of this group of them, however large, is wrong, as is making fun of their ethnicity. However, nothing justifies what these guys chanted. -
Remember that Lacrosse Article in the LA Daily New

I don't know... it seems a fairly reasonable response considering the venom he received, especially considering the nasty responses people here have gotten for milder criticism of local Bills reporters. -

I would like to know the examples of Bills fans behavior that rivals the behavior of these Mexican fans. I haven't been to too many Bills/Dolphins contests, is it common to make fun of people dying in a hurricane? Is it all right to justify it because they have a better economy than Western NY? -

I think the feud was a result of a roid-rage incident.

2005's surprise cut of the year will be...
Arkady Renko replied to SuperBills12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
People seem to not understand the idea of "surprise." -
It would be nice to see the posts back in April 2003. While a fair number of people got excited about the sexy name, how many were blasting TH when we drafted WM? People were complaining that he was just an alternate for the Pro Bowl a couple months prior. In retrospect he had and still has problems with breaking the big run, being a threat in the passing game and picking up the blitz but most people hadn't noticed that at the time.
-
I don't see anything in this article that is worth throwing a hissy fit over. Fact: There was little to complain about TH's performance, but we drafted McGahee anyway. Fact: No one on this board was hoping to even get Shelton until TH spoke out. We were hoping to be get something like than a 4th or 5th rounder from TH. Now we are expecting to get Shelton and improve our standing in the second round. Fact: TH is reasonable in wanting to move on. He is not going to make any money next year if he backs up WM this year. He hasn't been a good change-up back to show anything more here.

April movies: What do you want to see the most

What is the big deal about Sin City? The guy directing it has made a lot of substandard films as of late. And since when does a movie have a director and a guest director? -

The original Mac version did. You couldn't build them specifically but they would sprout up in residential areas. Didn't know about the tornado thing that stojan is mentioning however. -

Value-Added Tax and Health Care Reform
Arkady Renko replied to Rubes's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
VATs shuold only be put into place to replace the income tax, not to act as an additional tax, IMO. Note that VATs help increase the size of government because they hide the rate of taxes that people are actually paying. Economic theory says that a pure tax on consumption will have the same effect as a pure tax on income. Think of it this way, money is only as good what it can buy. If goods are more expensive because of the tax, incomes have gone down just as low as if the incomes were taxed directly. On the other hand, in our imperfect world where there are no perfect, pure taxes, VATs might help our domestic manufacturing. While income taxes are taxing jobs, VATs tax goods. Our exports have the cost of labor (which includes the taxes paid off of that labor) wherever they go. When our domestic goods reach countries that have the VAT, they are taxed the VAT after already having a high cost due to our income tax.
