Yeah, that was a bad one. Hard to gauge overall quality of safety play watching on TV when they'd rather show the constant shot of the QB in the pocket than zoom out and see routes develop downfield. On a semi related note, does anyone else wish that they did that more often? He was also step for step on another deep ball late in the game and had a good breakup. I'll be interested to hear how he did. I feel like next week, his sole job for the entire game should be to be the double team guy on Brandon Marshall. Fitz is going to just throw it at him constantly, and he can't read safeties well. Play robber and look for picks against BM. Make their other receivers beat us in 1:1.

Jerry Hughes - What do you think?
DC Greg replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good post. I think people who have played the game kind of get that. You never want to see personal fouls, but you like the edge that player brings. It's a fine line, but Hughes is clearly on the side of "hell yeah" and it's not even close. Those "fans" should lose their opinion license. They're probably the same ones who still want to see EJ start because he's such a darn nice fella. Some folks would rather cheer for lovable losers than the type of play that you need to win. -
Jerry Hughes - What do you think?

Except his mental lapses have never got us beat, but you can make a much stronger argument that his play has been the single most important factor to win a number of games. There are very few defensive lineman who have that kind of impact in the league. I think coaches need to keep working with him to clean up the penalties, but he is by far one of our best defensive players. If you don't see that, I don't think I can help you. He is as responsible as any single player for a win yesterday. Lot of fans wish he wouldn't be so good so they could be right about him being cut or benched. In the meantime, he proves you wrong again and again. My general thoughts on people who have that ax to grind are something like this: -
Seeing a lot of pessimism about this game. Allow me to be the first to go on record and predict that the bills kick the ever loving s#*$ out of the jets. Offense will face a tough D, but they haven't seen a QB like tyrod or a back like shady/Karlos yet. Their line is tough, but we gameplanned around Suh. We'll do the same for them. I think a big factor is if we can get pressure. Make Fitz do the Fitz things he does under pressure and playing from behind. If he has to push downfield to catch up... lookout. We've all seen that story before. Go Bills.

And still... held the team to 17 points. That should be good enough for a win every time.

Haha this is great. While I agree with the second part, I say let the dude play how he knows. What he's done his whole college and pro career has gotten him to this point. Let the man run the ball.

Sammy Watkins watched years of film to prep for Dolphins

He is going to be one of the great ones as long as he has a QB to throw to him. He's on the level of players that you just need to throw at, even if they're covered. That's all Fitz does with Marshall. Marshall is making him look like an all star. -
So I'll be the dick here... if 6 players have done it before, it's not exactly making history Just kidding. Karlos is having a hell of a year. Love the way he runs. Just hope he can avoid the helmet to helmet hits and stay healthy.

In spite of it all, if they hold teams under 24, that should be good enough for a win. We should be able to count on our offense for 24 every game. That is a baseline for a solid NFL offense.

Tyrod is the best when he's rolling out to his right. Every time I see him get outside contain, I am 100% confident that he is about to throw a strike for a big play or take off and run for a big gain. Until teams can completely shut this down, Roman needs to keep a healthy dose of sprint outs and naked boots happening. Preferably with Sammy running across the field from the left side.

Jerry Hughes' play > his penalty propensity

Yeah, let's go out and get Greg Hardy or someone of better character. -
Jerry Hughes' play > his penalty propensity

Clearly you've already identified the problem with a thorough and accurate medical analysis. Perhaps since you have done a full mental assessment from watching him play football, you should treat him? You seem immensely qualified. -
How dare he bobble it then have the absurd concentration and athletic ability to haul it in for a 70 yard gain. He should play exactly the way I think a football player should or else he stinks!

Jerry Hughes' play > his penalty propensity
DC Greg replied to DC Greg's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bull rushed the tackle with both speed and power and gets him in full back pedal on his heels... was able to spin on a dime to the inside, but in spinning to the inside, he still kept outside contain on the QB. Then he strips it, grabs it off one bounce with one hand. If he hadn't blasted Tannehill so hard that his momentum brings Jerry down, he might run this back. Honestly, I know it was against a scrub tackle, but being a former D-end, this is one of the most beautifully athletic pass rushes I've ever seen. Ever. Sure can. Rex and co. gotta keep coaching him up. He's a great player and I love him as a Bill. He's got some fire to him. -
Don't worry, you're in with the majority of Bills fans. On his next personal foul, the masses will calling for him to be cut or benched once again. Then he'll sack Fitz with one hand, take the ball from him, run it back for a touchdown, and set us up for a win. A bunch of fans will be mad that they were wrong, and they'll brood until there's another penalty so they can call for his head.

Jerry Hughes' play > his penalty propensity

Strip sack, Hughes and Mario both lined up on left side. Mario is playing the 3 tech and Jerry is the 5 tech. http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/0ap3000000575192/Bills-Jerry-Hughes-forces-and-then-recovers-fumble Also, Mario is 1:1 with guard and doesn't beat him. Not sure if he was supposed to hold up to be a QB spy... sure hope so. Otherwise he just gave up on this rush. -
Seems like something a high school coach would do. These are professional football players and multimillionaires. They need to be coached, not benched. He pushes it to the limit, and sometimes that results in a penalty. A good NFL coach can work with guys like Hughes. An amateur disciplinarian would just bench him because it's easier. Different players require different types of coaching. Also, his PF today, in my opinion, was a pretty soft call. Typical for an NFL ref though I suppose.

Jerry Hughes' play > his penalty propensity

I can see that it helped. I would have to rewatch film to look a little more closely. I did notice they were lined up on the same side a few times. That was interesting. At the same time, I've seen Mario get 1:1 matchups a number of times this year on passing downs. It seems to me that Hughes is winning those matchups when he has them more consistently. -
Mike zimmer on gregg-o in press conference
DC Greg replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gregg is a dirtbag. Good for Zimmer calling him out. Did anyone else catch Rodney Harrison call out Fisher a few minutes ago on Football Night? He said while playing against Fisher's team (Titans I guess?), one of the Titans(?) cut out his legs on a play. He said he looked up and saw Fisher laughing as he was hurt on the ground. -
He's making a strong case to get paid before the season is over. The longer we wait, the higher the price goes.

He's been the most consistent pass rusher every game. He doesn't have the sack numbers of last year (yet), but no one does. He's collapsed the pocket more often and more effectively than anyone. Mario's absence in that category is troublesome.
