Make the playoffs and I'll believe. Been burned too many times in the past 15 years... bledsoe, losman, edwards, fitz etc... they all had some great games early in the season which led to lots of national exposure about finally finding a QB, etc. 2002 off to a 5-3 start, they finish 3-5 to miss the playoffs 2003 start the season with a 31-0 drubbing of NE... Buffalo misses the playoffs, NE wins the Super Bowl. 2005 the Bills, at home, led by JP Losman beat the favored Texans by a score of 22-7. Lose the next 3, go 5-11. 2008 the Trent Edwards led Bills start the season 5-1, putting up 109 points in the first 4 games. They go 2-8 the rest of the way. 2011 Fitz leads the to a 5-1 start. They go 2-9 the rest of the season. 2015 led by new signal caller Tyrod Taylor, they beat the favored Colts at home. ?????? A couple things about yesterday which are red flags, things that playoff teams do not do... - penalties, 11 for 113 (typical of a Rex Ryan coached team) - questionable OL play, not much daylight for McCoy - miscommunication on offense, taking timeouts just to get the play called right If the Colts don't turn the ball over, then I think they win the game. eg, Brady won't throw those picks. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited they won, but there are some things that stand out which they'll need to overcome in order to be considered a playoff team IMO.... namely, actually making the playoffs.
-
I think it's more likely EJ shows indecisiveness and lack of accuracy. Tyrod probably comes in and runs wild, while Cassel does his best Trent Edwards impersonation with short safe throws. That said, Tyrod probably has done enough to win the job, I don't see that changing.

A reasonable Deflategate analogy
pi2000 replied to PlayoffsPlease's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The issue isn't how much of an advantage a slightly deflated ball gave Tom Brady, it's the fact he cheated and got caught... that begs the question, what else did he/they get away with? -
This is like Lee Evans and JP Losman all over again.

Harvin signs w/ Bills: 3 yr / $24M (voids to 1 yr / $6M)

....well, at least he'll be a good influence on guys like Marcel Dareus and Sammy Watkins. Good veteran leadership, leading by example for the young players on the team. -

he'd be good if he could stay healthy -
I have 2 boys 9/11 who play club hockey, football and basketball. The only cash rewards I've ever given them is for achievements at school. Sports is supposed to be fun, a break from school and chores and whatnot. That said, performance in school IS to be taken seriously so I reward them handsomely for good grades.

I'm sorry, but I think we took a big step back
pi2000 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with OP. This is step sideways. I'm ambivalent toward the hire... might as well be Marrone and Co. This changes nothing. The more things change, the more they stay the same. That said, if they go out and get 2 solid starting Gs and a legit vet QB, then that would be progress... but until that happens, there is no scheme or coach who can hide that fact that this team has no starting Gs and no starting QB on it's roster. -
I think it's possible.... but looking at how well the QB's have fared under Rex Ryan's staff doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. Maybe under Roman they'll ground and pound enough that they won't need to rely on quality QB play..... which sounds nice if we we're discussing this in the late 90's early 00's. Today it's a passing league. "ground and pound" with a stout D doesn't get you the playoffs in this day and age.
-
Still not liking the hire. This does nothing to help the Bills. Their D is already great, they needed an offensive minded coach who can develop QBs. Kaepernick regressed under Roman the past couple seasons. I just don't see EJ taking the next step with this coaching staff.... David Lee? Are you serious? Isn't he the guy that messed with Fitz's throwing mechanics a few years ago? That turned out well

Good, now we can start EJ and sit down this clown Orton.

EJ Manuel had better career college numbers than Aaron Rodgers. 66.9% vs 63.8% completion percentage 150.4 vs 150.2 QB rating 8.6 vs 8.2 yards per attempt Once EJ figures out NFL defenses, he'll be a fine starter. Rodgers sat on the bench for 3 years learning the NFL game before even started a single game. -
Could happen since NE is unlikely to dress Brady.
-
The Raiders are a 3-2 over their last 5 games. They're a much improved team under Tony Sparano. Sure the Bills are a better team and should've beat them, but they didn't.
-
I like Marrone, he reminds me of a young Bill Parcells.... controversial at times, demanding, but the players respect him and play hard for him. Hope he sticks around, the team did make progress this year. Get a couple gaurds in FA, make a move for an established veteran QB, and with Kiko back, this team should be playoff bound next season.

EJ hasn't even played a full season of games and everybody is already writing him off. He was considered somewhat of a project coming out of college.... 2-3 years of so of seasoning would be required before he could step in and start. He's still a very good prospect, just needs time and we all need to be patient with him. Aaron Rodgers didn't start a game his first 3 years in the league. I'm not saying he's Aaron Rodgers, but there is a learning curve and EJ is a smart kid I think he'll get there eventually. In the meantime Buffalo's D is playoff caliber, so it's up the front office to find a veteran QB who can simply play average enough to not lose games while EJ continues to learn. -

Updated 2015 Draft Order
pi2000 replied to TheBillsWillRiseAgain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I expect them to draft LG, then a RG, after that maybe another RG, then LG, RG, and RG. Trade Spiller and a 3rd for Cutler. -
Fully expect Brown to start next season, with Fred getting about 5-7 touches per game on third down, spot duty like you said. That said, with this coaching staff anything is possible.... hell, maybe Marrone feels he game play some RG?
-
They need to start using high tech in lieu of refs. Why not put a chip in a puck or a ball so we don't need to have reviews every time? A light can go on or something when the object crosses a line or enters a goal... the tech is there, it's available and would speed the game along. Something like the the hawk-eye in tennis, where the review is instant and played on the big screen for the entire world to see. No more of this under-a-hood replay stuff, that's so archaic. You could use the same tech for first downs, out of bounds, marking where punts go out of bounds, offsides, etc etc.... Replay simply isn't good enough because the ruling is still subjective... ie Manziel fumble. If there was a chip in the ball, you could have an instant measurement of directional velocity.

If it's the Bills I know, they will narrowly beat GB in a hard fought game, then lose in grand fashion at Oakland. As a long time fan I just about expect that to happen. -
