There's nothing wrong with him. I agree, he's not having his best season, but today he had one blocked and missed a 48 yarder in a downpour. That's not something I'd panic or worry about moving forward.

They wont fire McDermott before the end of the year, but I'd be looking at the remaining games as an audition for Joe Brady. Regardless, I don't want another defensive HC. Ever.

In the short term, probably more of the same. Perhaps better playcalling tendencies, but there's not enough time to make major changes to the offensive philosophy at this point.

No, it's really not a big deal unless the QB is throwing an unusually high number of them. 14 or 15 a year, which is what it has been before now is definitely manageable. The Bills' record in recent years before this one is proof enough of that. Whatever is wrong with this offense is more than just interceptions.

I'm not defending his play as of late. There's more going on than just the interceptions. I'm just saying that on general principle, the interceptions are not necessarily an issue as long as the offense is otherwise moving the ball and the QB is producing touchdowns. Right now, that's not the case.

I really don't care that much about the interceptions as long as he's 2:1 or better on TD passes. If they're going to call 700 pass plays a year, the QB is going to throw some interceptions.

As poorly as they've been playing offensively, including for most of this game, I have no confidence that they could have done it. McDermott should just be happy that they actually scored to take the lead after all that.

I wonder if some of this is that the WRs have multiple route options on each play and that they're not where Josh is expecting them to be. That may or may not be part of the problem, but if it is, it would explain his hesitation and probably also his over-reliance on Diggs.

Agreed. I've been as supportive of Gabe Davis as anyone, but at this point, I've seen enough. It's too late for 2023, but they need more from WR2 and the depth guys next year. Shakir is playing pretty well, but that group needs a major overhaul for next season.

Yeah, I said as much a couple of weeks ago. Dorsey and Allen are going to catch most of the blame, but aside from Diggs, I suspect that the WRs are more of the problem than is readily apparent. Just at face value, the dropoff in talent and experience over the last two seasons has been enormous, losing Beasley, Brown and Sanders. Davis is bordering upon a major disappointment. Shakir is looking pretty good, but he's not there yet. The rest aren't much. Kincaid is having an excellent rookie year, but he's not a WR, even if they use him in a similar role. Looking at the decline of that position group, I don't think it's a big surprise that the offense is struggling. As you say, if the D can take away Diggs, they're willing to take their chances with the others, and to this point, aside from an occasional big game out of Davis, that's been a pretty safe bet.

I agree. I would unload every last over-the-hill, dead weight contract I could this offseason with the goal of clearing cap space for 2025.

I think it hit his hand and bounced off for a completed pass. No way they're going to overturn the original call, though.

I think the conservative approach on those drives is fair game for criticism, but ahead 24-10, I agree, I think the punts were absolutely the correct call. That's especially true when you have no idea what kind of shotgun BS play Ken Dorsey is going to dial up in short yardage.

Well, yes, technically they've replaced them, but the resources they've expended to do so in comparison to the talent lost has been just about the minimum they could get away with. Two 5ths, two guys signed at/near the veteran minimum and a mid tier kick returner/gadget guy. You could argue Kincaid, but its still not the same position. Thankfully Shakir is showing signs of life, but to this point, the drop-off in quality beyond WR2 the last two years has been significant.

Kincaid is certainly playing well, but I tend to think that a large part of it has also been Khalil Shakir. This is a team that has lost three good WRs over the last couple of years and made minimal effort to replace them. Now that Shakir appears to be stepping up, providing Josh with a competent, reliable 3rd option at WR, it's no surprise that the offense looks better.

Under the circumstances, that's fine. Just don't turn the ball over or give them anything easy.

It wouldn't be my first choice, but like anything else, it depends on the price tag. If they do, I hope they stop with the shotgun running plays.

Mahomes has a huge advantage over Allen just based on the fact that he has Andy Reid designing and calling plays. Unfortunately, I'm starting to think that Allen is comparable to John Elway under Dan Reeves. It took them a decade to bring in a coaching staff that would allow Elway to reach his full potential. I think that may be the case here as well.
