  1. Are we saluting birthdays or playing golf here, Beerball?
  2. Love the title of this thread. "Tiger Woods swears on the golf course." In other news, water is wet and the Pope is Catholic.
  3. The older I get, the more I find this answer to be "NO". 15 years ago, when I was still single and wanted a girlfriend more than anything else on earth, I read a very funny book called "Nice Guys Don't Get Laid". I realized that I had approached everything exactly the wrong way, trying to be a gentleman (read: acting like a whiny puppy dog toward women) when I should have been feigning disinterest. I put that principle to use, and had three steady girlfriends in the four years before I met Kim. Obviously, none of the others worked out long term (the longest was just over a year). But Kim and I have been together going on 11 years now. I like to think that I played my cards exactly right with the woman who would become my wife...but another part of me thinks I just got lucky. Today, I prefer not to be close friends with other women. You find yourself fantasizing what it would be like to be with them, and that creates a disservice to your wife, the one you're pledged to.
  4. Went to the in-laws for dinner, which consisted of a deli tray. Thought that was a nice change of pace. My father-in-law decided to hide the eggs in the bed, under the blanket. Still four inches of snow on the ground here, so no outdoor egg hunt for the kids in the family this year.
  5. This doesn't surprise me in the least. I think "Friday Night Lights" is next.
  6. You know, I'm not really sure what to think of Terrelle Pryor. Yes, part of me is happy that he's going to be a Buckeye. However, there's just something about this kid that rubs me the wrong way. Maybe because of all the attention he's getting. Or that he seems to have an entourage...at 17. I don't know for sure. I fear he could wind up being another Clarett, although he seems to have more common sense than Maurice did. He will back up Todd Boeckman for a year (Boeckman's a senior this fall), and then the job will be Pryor's. I hope he learns the collegiate game, spends a lot of time in the film and weight rooms, and gives proper respect and due to coaches and teammates. No matter what, I'm a Buckeye fan forever. da da da da, da da da da GO BUCKS!!!
  7. I don't know what the heck Spitzer was thinking. This girl is average at best. Nothing special. It must be all in the performance, but as I said to someone this week, there's only so many things you can do with a vagina.
  8. We climb on a plane to Orlando at 8:40 tomorrow morning. I'm really looking forward to it, because I'm just so sick of the snow here. It's finally melting, but I'm ready for warm weather. We will see two Indians games, one in Viera tomorrow against the Nationals, and one in Winter Haven on Saturday against Houston. After that, plenty of beach time. See ya late next week!
  9. Ironic choice of words, KD.
  10. and I noticed that somehow Jay Rosen is to blame. EDIT: And I also just noticed we're back to our old sig lines and post totals...I think I may dub this "Classic Stadium Wall".
  11. Nation unshaken by death of plain-looking girl. It's an old article (over 10 years old), but it rings more true than ever today. It was written after JonBenet was murdered (believe it or not, she'd be sixteen today). I've heard it called the Missing Pretty Girl Syndrome. Jon Stewart quipped that the coverage regarding Anna Nicole's death merited it only slightly less important than the 9/11 attacks. And I've seen that some of the female VT victims are, shall we say, photogenic. I guess in our society, being beautiful trumps all. Look at that no-talent hack Sanjaya or whatever his name is.
  12. Agreed. But, I think they are the team to beat this year. Nobody in the East could beat them, and I have the Cavaliers coming the closest.
  13. I've seen as high as a .38, but that was with a urine test, which registers somewhat higher. People who blow anything above a .25 shouldn't even be walking, but a LOT of it has to do with building up a tolerance for alcohol. What might put me in a coma would barely faze someone who's been drinking a fifth of JD's every day since 1982.
  14. What do you think? Eastern Quarterfinals: Detroit over Orlando, 4 games to 1 Cleveland over Washington, 4 games to 0 New Jersey over Toronto, 4 games to 3 Miami over Chicago, 4 games to 2 Western Quarterfinals: Dallas over Golden State, 4 games to 1 Phoenix over LA Lakers, 4 games to 2 San Antonio over Denver, 4 games to 1 Houston over Utah, 4 games to 2 Eastern Semis: Cleveland over New Jersey, 4 games to 2 Miami over Detroit, 4 games to 2 Western Semis: San Antonio over Phoenix, 4 games to 3 Dallas over Houston, 4 games to 1 Eastern Finals: Cleveland over Miami, 4 games to 3 Western Finals: Dallas over San Antonio, 4 games to 2 NBA Finals Can the Cleveland Cavaliers win their first-ever NBA Championship? Probably not. Dallas over Cleveland, 4 games to 2
  15. Alec Baldwin is a prick. He likes to yell at women, apparently. Even though his ex is not the most stable person in the world, Kim Basinger obviously didn't deserve his drunken tantrums. Screw you, Alec.
  16. That's exactly what I'm saying.
  17. I think that everyone has the potential to become violent at some point. Look at the minister's wife in Tennessee who filled her husband full of shotgun pellets. She looks like a mousy little woman, but apparently, he did enough to set her off, including physical abuse and rage over financial problems. Everyone is capable of killing another person. But, 99.9% of the population has the little safety valve that lets off steam. And whether that valve is golf or internet pornography or whatever, that can only be a good thing. The VT shooter didn't have that. He had a Christ complex, wanting to judge who lived and who died, because he believed himself to be persecuted. Hey, we've all been persecuted, whether it's being made fun of in junior high and being the regular victim of "swirlies" or the girls who won't give us the time of day, to the problems with our bosses in our jobs. But, we live with it. We survive. And hopefully, we improve from adversity.
  18. Cleveland, Cleveland, Cleveland.
  19. A good night for me, even though the Tribe lost. Sabres win, and the Cavaliers wind up with the #2 seed in the East and don't play Miami in the first round!
  20. And I just bought Killian's today! Hey, sometimes I just need a beer.
  21. Get off of Long Island with another win, guys. GO SABRES!!
  22. Out of all those listed, my ranks: 1) Natalie Portman 2) Jennifer Connelly circa 1991, not JC circa 2007 3) Scarlett...she's beginning to grow on me. 4) Everybody else.
  23. Peterson's not slipping past the Vikings if they stay at #8. There has been some speculation here about the Browns taking AP, but I think they either have their sights set on Brady Quinn OR they will try to trade down for more picks.
  24. Um, I think I'll stick with mixing baking soda and vinegar into carbon dioxide. That's a tiny bit safer.
