  1. I never really thought about it. Because the odds of me even meeting Catherine Zeta-Jones, Belinda Carlisle and Liz Phair are ZERO.
  2. And wasn't Stabler a consistent winner as well?
  3. Hey, my mother's family didn't have indoor plumbing (or electricity) until she was in high school. More people lived that way than you think, until after World War II.
  4. I don't know if we're doing strictly movie casts or not, but I've got a TV one. Anyone remember the sitcom Evening Shade. which ran on CBS from 1990-94? Burt Reynolds, who won both an Emmy and a Golden Globe for playing a former Pittsburgh Steeler who came back to his hometown of Evening Shade, Arkansas to be the high school's head football coach. The show revitalized Reynolds' career. Marilu Henner played his wife, who became the local D. A., and she was far hotter here than she was on Taxi. Michael Jeter, who had just won a Tony Award. Charles Durning, who had two Tony Awards. The late, great Ossie Davis, who owned the town's barbecue restaurant. The great Hal Holbrook (who should have won an Oscar for Into the Wild this past year), who played Marilu Henner's dad. Ann Wedgeworth, a fine stage actress. I posted on IMDB.com that this cast may be the best ever for an American sitcom. I'm also happy to report that the first season of Evening Shade is being released on DVD on June 24...I've already pre-ordered it. It's a shame that few people remember Evening Shade.
  5. Loved Ted Knight. He won two Emmys on TMTMS. And then, he does his turn in Caddyshack. Simply a terrific comedic actor, and it's sad that he died before his time. He had secretly fought cancer for several years prior to his death in 1986 at age 62. RIP, Mr. Baxter.
  6. because it wasn't on 330 diplomas. This is actually the high school the next town over from me in the Cleveland suburbs. IMO, couldn't happen to a nicer group of people...Westlakers can be such snobs. Since Yahoo picked up on it, wonder if Leno or Letterman will tonight?
  7. Got it. I think. BTW, I loved the old TV show with Bill Bixby. I refused to see the 2005 movie based on the reviews, plus I didn't want to ruin childhood memories, and I need to see reviews before I decide on the new one.
  8. I'm probably the only person in Cleveland besides you that wants Marte to play regularly. Especially because we're 60 games in and things don't seem to be getting better right now. BTW, Coco turned into a punk, didn't he?
  9. Apocalypse Now. Brando, Duvall, Martin Sheen, Frederic Forrest, Harrison Ford (!), Dennis Hopper (!!), and a very young Laurence Fishburne. It took forever to get made, and it might well be the best war movie ever.
  10. Sixty-four years since D-Day. The people of the Greatest Generation are dying off rapidly now.
  11. I really believe that, if he had not been assassinated, RFK would have beaten Nixon in the 1968 presidential election. Thus, the whole history of America changes over the last forty years. Any thoughts? Would we have been better off? Or not?
  12. Lakers in 5. And I won't watch a minute of it. The Stanley Cup Playoffs are so much better...makes me wish Cleveland had an NHL team instead of an NBA team, the presence of Lebron notwithstanding.
  13. Even though Hossa's shot wouldn't have counted. The clock hit zero before he got his stick on it. Osgood couldn't quite reach it, and Hossa's shot went over his glove across the crease. It's been posted here before, but this is truly what playoff hockey's all about. That noise you just heard was the entire state of Michigan exhaling...and then cheering. Red Wings, even though I hate them, are champions. 3-2 is the final score in Pittsburgh.
  14. Hey, I was surprised to find out that Belinda Carlisle (my dream girl from way back when) turns 50 in August.
  15. For action movies, I have to go with "Tremors". I mentioned that here once before. That was a movie that I rented almost as an afterthought (it was after a friend's wedding, out of town) and it turned out to be terrific. For drama, I'll nominate "The Apostle". Robert Duvall wrote, directed, and starred in it, mortgaging his farm in Virginia to get it made. A story of a wayward minister who commits a crime of passion and finds redemption. I literally cried at the end of it. Duvall was nominated for an Oscar for his role. Of course, I'll watch Robert Duvall read the phone book, but it's still an excellent film.
  16. Ever notice how Henry Winkler couldn't have been more than 5 foot 7? My wife firmly believes that Fonzie had to overcompensate for "short man's disease".
  17. No, but I've said that the person who comes up with a cheap desalinization process of ocean water will be a freakin' billionaire.
  18. The fact that water is abundant here is a major reason why I still live in this area. I love the Southwest, but you can't take our water. If they want water so bad, move back here. It may be the big bargaining chip the Great Lakes/Rustbelt needs to become not only relevant, but thriving again.
  19. Considering the character is named Mrs. Puff, I wouldn't be surprised at all.
  20. Yep. WKRP is 30 years old this fall, after all.
  21. Fleury had a whopping 55 saves...the most in the finals since 1998.
  22. Went to bed at the end of the first OT as well. In Canada, everyone (and I do mean everyone) would be riveted to their seat. Here, it's just Michigan, Pittsburgh, WNY, and maybe parts of New England and Minnesota. BTW, one guy on Around the Horn said that the Penguins are on the verge of becoming an Edmonton-like dynasty over the next five years. And now, Game 6. Pens take it, and force Game 7 back in Hockeytown. That's my prediction.
  23. Chuckles is on right now!! "A little song, a little dance, a little seltzer down the pants."
  24. You know what would complete this topic? The Dean posting to it.
