White supremacists believe Obama winning Presidency will help them. Huh? This isn't 1958 anymore. In 50 years, we've gone from the civil rights movement to a viable black candidate for President. It really does give me hope for this country, even though I'm supporting McCain. I don't think Obama would make a bad Commander-in-Chief, but I disagree with some of his policies. But, there's a reason why racists (white, especially, even though there are plenty of black racists out there too) are irrelevant today: It's because they're stupid. Just because you're a certain skin color does NOT mean that you are entitled to anything, in this country or in life itself. The world doesn't owe anybody a damn thing. But, some moronic white people want to hold on to their hatred, because they believe that the success of others of different races has contributed to their misfortune. No, Bubba, it hasn't. You didn't get an education, didn't get up off your fat butt and do something with YOUR life. Instead, you want to blame others who are different than you. And they say God forbid that the races should intermarry. You should hear some of the white supremacists talk about that issue...some of the stuff I've seen online is downright abominable. Some racist ministers have even tried to back up that crap with Scripture. Despite the fact that such luminaries as Derek Jeter, Dwayne Johnson, Halle Berry, and yes, Senator Obama himself are the progeny of mixed marriages and relationships. A "white revolution" is nothing more than David Duke's wet dream. People of different races are in the continuing process of learning how to get along. God knows we need it. And BTW, I subscribe to the P.J. O'Rourke theory on race: Why would you hate anyone based on the color of their skin, when you can get to know them and find so many other things to hate about them?

That is a shame. I really liked him in Mr. 3000 and Ocean's Eleven. I saw an article on Yahoo about 10 days ago saying that his health was bad...he was diagnosed with sarcoidosis, which is a chronic lung disease. He'd had it for years, but it apparently flared up recently. I can't help but think this led to the pneumonia that killed him. RIP, Bernie.

Anyone watch Jets-Browns last night?
buckeyemike replied to silvermike's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rucker had the game-winning TD pass batted away from him in the end zone. Other than that, he was OK. Nothing to write home about. -

Meyer's OK...not a huge fan, but my wife likes her and reads her books. Third Day's pretty good. I like them more than I like any TV preacher, let's put it that way. -

As most of you know, I'm a devout Christian. I don't even count Osteen as a televangelist. He's more of a "power of positive thinking" guy. To those who believe in the "prosperity gospel" that Osteen seems to believe in, then I have one question: If this teaching of the "prosperity gospel" is truth, that Osteen and others like the appalling Benny Hinn teach, then where is YOUR private jet, million dollar mansion, vacation home, Bentley, Rolls Royce, designer clothes, $10,000 per night hotel suite, etc? Yeah, I thought so. -
Browns game and the storm...
buckeyemike replied to buckeyemike's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Interestingly enough, I was at the Browns-Packers preseason game in 2003. My friend's brother has club seats. A real nice way to watch a preseason game. BTW, did anyone see that Jets player (A.J. Schabel...sp?) that was carted off the field in the fourth quarter of the game last night? It happened on a kickoff return and was eerily similar to what happened to Kevin Everett. Schabel gave the "thumbs up" sign to the crowd...got a standing ovation as they wheeled the cart off the field. He seemed to be OK, but I haven't heard any updates as of this morning. -
I happened to be on my way to downtown Cleveland earlier this evening. I wasn't going to the Browns-Jets game; I had some other business to attend to in town. I noticed on my drive in on the Shoreway how dark and ominous the sky was getting out over the lake. This was after we had a bright and sunny afternoon, but with storms to the east of Cleveland. Even around 6:30 or so, it was still pretty nice. It was around 8:00 when, about two miles from Browns Stadium, I looked out over the lake and saw about the brightest lightning strike I've ever seen in my life. I had the Jets broadcast of the game on my Sirius radio...there must have been a delay, because I rolled the window down, heard the thunder, and then heard the thunder on the broadcast about eight seconds later. One of the weirdest things I think I've ever experienced. The Jets broadcaster said that they saw a flash and then commented on the very loud rumble of thunder. About 45 seconds later, there was another bright flash of lightning, over the lake, but this time closer to Browns Stadium. I'm less than a mile from the Stadium at this point, on the bridge leading to downtown Cleveland. It was at this point that the teams left the field. I got onto Lakeside Avenue, the main thoroughfare nearest Browns Stadium...there were still people walking towards Browns Stadium and the rain is pouring by this point. I rolled my window down and told them of the lightning delay. Fortunately, I was able to finish my business down there quickly, and returned home. I've noticed one thing over the past couple of years...it seems like we have more weather delays in NFL games than we used to have. I don't know if it's player and fan safety being taken into account or if there are more severe thunderstorms than there used to be. The one that went through downtown Cleveland tonight is one I'll remember for a long time.

I agree with you. But, the Jets were going nowhere with Pennington this season. They had to make a splash. The NY tabloids have gone gaga over Manning and the Giants since their improbable Super Bowl run. The Jets were left in the lurch. Until early this morning. Favre gives the Jets a name for at least one and probably two years. Mike Greenburg said on ESPN Radio this morning that part of the reason for the trade could have been because the Jets are getting ready to sell PSL's for the new stadium they're sharing with the Giants (even though the stadium won't be open for another two years). We will see what happens with Favre with Gang Green. He needed to get out of Green Bay, b/c the team had obviously grown tired of the will-I-or-won't-I-retire game he's played with the team over the past five years. But, I'm in the camp saying the Jets are getting the 2005-06 Favre, not the 2007 version, since he's not going to be in the best of shape once he reports. BTW, the Jets are in Cleveland tonight for their pre-season opener. Favre is apparently not expected to be here...haven't heard otherwise to this point.

It's the latter. I think most of the people on that show (save Howard and Robin) live pathetic lives. I think that's been part of the show's appeal over the years...Howard would have on these amazingly bizarre characters, while belching on-air and trying to get some Penthouse pet's panties off at the same time. But like everything else, it's grown old over time. The show will live on until the end of his Sirius contract...at which time Howard will retire and Sirius will repeat the same shows over and over again in perpetuity.

Forbes: Buffalo among 'fastest-dying' cities in US

Cleveland, Youngstown, Canton, Dayton all made the list. They're right, but I hate Forbes. -
"We are blessed to be living in an age when we have a global communications network in which idiots, a--holes, and total and complete wastes of f---ing human life alike can come together to give instant feedback in an unfettered and unmonitored online environment," Mylenek said. "What better way to take advantage of this incredible technology than to log onto the Internet and insult a complete stranger?" Oh my, is that ever funny...

For all you CSI fans this is a shocker.
buckeyemike replied to K-Gun10's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Yes, I am a Corner Gas fan. I discovered the show on YouTube prior to its American airings. I can't blame Brent Butt (yes, that is his real name -- for those not familiar with the show, he is the star and creator) for wanting to end the show before it wears out its welcome. The count will be six seasons and 107 episodes. -
I have. So obviously I'm not missing a helluva lot then.

Boy are you ever right about that. And I like Robert Patrick. BTW, did you know that Robert is Richard Patrick's older brother? Richard played with Filter and sat in with NIN a couple of times. -
As for me, I don't have a problem with legalizing pot. One other poster mentioned that its illegality is because hemp was cheaper than cotton, and the cotton growers wanted a monopoly. I've heard the same story, except cotton is switched with wood pulp...and a way to process hemp into paper. Thus, William Randolph Hearst, who owned a number of wood pulp processing plants (for his newspapers) would have lost millions had the cheaper hemp processing for paper come online. Hearst listed incidents in his papers of bad things caused by marijuana, which whipped anti-hemp forces into a frenzy and also lobbied his friends in Congress to make it illegal, which it did. I really believe that this story posesses some merit. That said, the NORML people and their supporters scare me. I have never smoked marijuana in my 39+ years on this earth, and I never will either. I really don't care if you smoke dope, but there's a reason it's called that.

morgan freeman in serious condition after crash

My dad has. Hell, my grandma used to take her old Dodge Dart out on the Bayshore Freeway outside San Fran on Sunday mornings and drive 85 mph..."to blow all the gunk out of it" (her words). She quit driving at age 88...she died four years ago at the age of 95. -

So this is what the Wall has come to in the final days before preseason games? In-depth discussion of the five-second rule??? Let the games begin already!! -
I've never cared much for Peter King as a writer, but on his recent trip to Browns training camp, he talked about Cleveland and his experiences there: "The other night I dined with Cleveland GM Phil Savage on the outdoor patio of the Moosehead Café, a pleasant tavern with Moosehead Beer (God, how long has it been since I had a Moosehead?). The cafe is on the border of Westlake and Bay Village on the west side of Cleveland, and we were at the table on a cool, breezy, clear night for a couple of hours. Servers swarmed our table pleasantly and efficiently. Collectively, we had a large order of home-baked potato chips, two ice teas (his), three Heineken Lights (mine), two mega-salads (one with roast turkey, the other with chicken), two orders of whole wheat Texas Toast and coffee. The bill came: $36.08. I thought: Isn't traveling wonderful? When you live in a megalopolis, you get used to paying double that for less. It's nice to know there are still places in the world -- lots of them, as I see every summer on my training-camp trip -- where restaurants have more reasonable prices. I hadn't seen the Lake communities on the west side of Cleveland since my post-college days, when the family considered moving to northeast Ohio. Beautiful. The parks, the homes on the lake, the green space ... Anyone who rips Cleveland has never been to the west side of town." This is where I grew up (the next town closer to Cleveland, in Rocky River). I still live near there. I've never been to the Moosehead, but I've driven by it many times. My wife Kim is from Bay Village, and her parents still live there. Maybe I should stop by the Moosehead...I have heard about those homemade potato chips before. I've been in these parks that Mr. King speaks of, and some of those homes on the lake are nothing short of spectacular. Kim and I are starting to look at houses now, but I know we won't be able to afford any of the lakefront ones anytime soon. Those of you who live in Buffalo or are from the Buffalo area, don't let anyone get you down about your hometown. The food's terrific there, and I know the cost of living is still affordable. As many of you know, Cleveland and Buffalo are a lot more similar than they are different. That's part of the charm of our respective hometowns. BTW, the link for Peter King's SI.com blog is here.

Christina Applegate battling cancer
buckeyemike replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Saw that...it made me feel old, and Christina's still only 36. A few weeks ago, my wife Kim found what she thought was a lump. That scared the crap out of both of us. For the record, Kim will turn 40 in October. Thank God...Kim had a mammogram. Nothing is wrong. But I feel for Christina. -
I guess I shouldn't have pissed off Bruce Jenner.

Congratulations ofiba! Seriously, I love being married. It's a hell of a lot better than the single life was, for me anyway. I know the jokes, and I know a lot of people can't or won't say that, but I was miserable single. Just remember to put the toilet seat down, and you'll be fine.
