What do you think ..do you like Dib's avatars?
buckeyemike replied to BuffaloBill's topic in Off the Wall Archives
You wish. -
I'm the same way. Golf is my second-favorite sport, next to baseball, and the best part for me is my short game. And even that's mediocre, at best. Charles has to find something to spend his money on now that he's on probation.

Since I've never been to Georgia, I have to ask: Do those items occur in that particular order?

Does anyone remember the XFL?

That could have changed American television...and the XFL crapped out on it. -
LAMP New addition to the RaChaCha Family

Congrats! Say hello to Laura in RaChaCha for me. -
RIP to a man who was one of the reasons I got involved in radio in my early twenties. Although I dropped it to pursue law school, I respected the pioneers who made broadcasting what it became, and Paul Harvey was one of them.

Does anyone remember the XFL?
buckeyemike replied to Glass To The Arson's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I remember the XFL well. I thought it was going to be a success...at first. I think what happened is that it wasn't run very well. Vince McMahon sunk millions of his own money into the league. They tried to change some rules on the fly during the season, and it never recovered. Plus, the quality of football just flat-out sucked. In fact, I think that the WWE is still trying to recover from the hit it took. I agree with what Bill Simmons wrote one time; McMahon had the right concept, but the wrong sport. If he had tried it with hockey, it would have succeeded. Wildly. -

Has to be outside of Clark County. Prostitution is illegal in the Vegas area, but it is legal in other parts of the state. The Reno/Carson City area is notorious for its brothels. -
This was posted on a minor league baseball blog a while back, but with the grand jury in full investigative mode, I think it's relevant. Plus, it's very funny: The Huntsville Stars just may be my new favorite minor league team. EDIT: Even better, I just found out the name of the Stars' GM...Buck Rogers. No, I'm not kidding.

Steven Page leaving Barenaked Ladies
buckeyemike replied to Just Jack's topic in Off the Wall Archives
"If I Had $1000000" is still their best song. The final line of that song was my first sig line on this board six and a half years ago (God, has it really been that long? I need to go outside and get a life). I think that the breakup of the band is near. Everything to Everyone was not a good album and Barenaked Ladies are Me(n) didn't do hardly anything on the charts. Sad to say, but I think BNL's best days are behind them. A side note: years ago, when my brother still lived at home, he told my mother he was going to a Barenaked Ladies show. Mom thought he was going to a strip club, and got upset. I had to explain to Mom that BNL was a rock band. -
I am betting that one of the NY papers will fold in the next year. My money's on the Daily News.

I would like to show everyone...

That was The Ghoul. He's been a local horror movie host off and on for 35 years in Detroit and Cleveland. And yes, he's crazy. I saw him at the St. Patrick's Day parade a couple of years ago, and he's scheduled to be in the next one. He always tortures Froggy. Somewhere on YouTube he's blowing Froggy up; I just haven't found it yet. -
Carlin was good in both of the Bill & Ted movies. He also played Ben Affleck's dad in Jersey Girl, which is a better movie than a lot of people give it credit for. My 3 year old nephew will remember him as the voice of the hippie VW Van Fillmore in Cars.

Getting back on track here... Dante, I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Stay strong. I know many here are thinking of you and I know many will be praying, including me. Laughter is, indeed, the best medicine. Go rent one of your favorite comedies or watch a bunch of Marx Brothers and Three Stooges bits on YouTube. That certainly can't hurt.

What I want to know is how much beer/vodka/weed was involved that night. -
No. I root for the Cleveland Indians.

From someone you may be familiar with (especially Yankees fans) Apparently this person had much of his personal wealth tied up in Stanford financial accounts: Dear Sir, Good day and compliments to you! This letter will definitely come to you as a huge surprise, as you probably do not receive messages from Major League ballers every day, but I implore you to take the time to go through it carefully as the decision you make will go off a long way to determine my future and continued life in the lap of luxury and wealth. Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Mr. Johnny David Damon, (formerly a.k.a. "Caveman"), the centerfielder of the New York Baseball YANKEES and one of the many pinstriped sons of the House of Steinbrenner, currently located in the Bronx, NYC, USA. Please/nice meet you. My ordeal started in early 2009 after the offices of the dishonorable Allen Stanford were raided and shut down due to complicated but fun PONZI SCHEME. The present democratic government is determined to portray all the good work of my easily-swindled financial advisor in a very bad light and have gone as far as freezing all my accounts assets, properties, freezing our accounts both within and outside America. As I am writing this letter to you from Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, USA, my pool cleaner, housemaids, driver and butler is undergoing a long wait in their local post office. We simply do not have enough funds to compensate them for their varied and value services. It has shamed our house across the land! Dear sir, I have made over $80 MILLION IN SALARY alone in my career, yet the banking system in my country will not yet release any of it to me. Please, I seek your indulgence to assist us in securing these funds. We are not allowed to see or discuss with any teammates and Few occasions I have tried to ask MR. DEREK JETER or SIR A-ROD to loan a few dollars have all failed. May the honorable GOD have mercy on them. As I mentioned, I have/will have more than Eighty Million USD ($80,000,000.00) specially preserved and well packed in New York Yankee duffel bags and equipment trucks in the near future. It will be packed in such a way to forestall just anybody having access to it. It is this sum that I seek your assistance to get out of Tampa/Bronx Borough as soon as possible before Scott Boras finds out about it and confiscates it. To help, I please so humbly ask that you immediately wire MR. XAVIER NADY and I the amount of $14,388.82 so that we may pay part of our mortgages and stave off the crisis that is swallowing us like great monster. Doing so will entitle you to all of my earnings from May to September, plus one (1) 2004 World Series ring, three (3) "Johnny Damon is My Homeboy" t-shirt and six (6) copies of Idiot. May the Bleacher Creatures and Media Man show me mercy as you do so? Your faithfully, Mr. Johnny David Damon (1st Gen., Bronx Bomber Army)

I'm Protestant, so I don't give up vices for Lent, but I had a boss years ago who got mad at me for eating hamburgers on Fridays during Lent. I had to explain to him that I wasn't Catholic, and that we didn't have to do that.

Jim Calhoun(UConn) vs College Reporter (kid)

This wannabe gadfly journalist is nothing but a little punk. I'm no UConn fan, but I like what Calhoun did. -
Just posting what I saw. I do agree that Iraq was a mistake.
