No, the greatest college basketball program ever is UCLA under John Wooden. 10 titles in 12 years...that's never happening again. The team I root for in the ACC is Wake Forest, so I despise BOTH Duke and UNC.

Damn, I missed the premiere the other night. You're right about Bryan Cranston, though. He was terrific as the harried father on "Malcolm in the Middle" (three Emmy nominations), and he's even better in "Breaking Bad". He just might be the best TV actor we have right now. EDIT: The episode is available at AMC's website.

This reminds me of the recent Head & Shoulders man radio commercials and their "random thoughts". So, I'll steal one from there: Why are female cable TV news reporters so hot? and: Why do hot dogs come in packages of 10 and hot dog buns in packages of 8? (that one is from Animaniacs)

I think I mentioned this once before, but a fellow juvenile lawyer here in Cleveland told me that he once represented a kid named Shi'thead. Read that name again.

I kid you not...her birth name is Marijuana Pepsi Jackson. Link to Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel article. She seems well-adjusted to me. She embraces her name and her life, but she has told people not to give the same name to their children. The article is certainly worth a read.

Happy Birthday to the other guy on the board who lives in West Virginia.

Honestly? I thought this was an early April Fool's Day joke, until I saw the e-mail from WGR confirming it in my inbox. Count me as surprised...

The question here is, can hospitals be mandated or forced BY THE GOVERNMENT to perform abortions? Once the government forces an organization to perform a service against its core beliefs, then freedom dies in this country. It's not a question of individual freedom, as abortion is legal. It's the government telling an private organization that it MUST provide this service...even if they don't want to, or if it goes against religious beliefs. Religious beliefs cannot be trampled on, as they are constitutionally protected, for the individual, for churches, and for religious organizations. Abortion rights advocates want to keep government out of the womb...hospitals should have the same right in a free society to choose whether or not to perform abortions.

"The will of the people shall be the law of the land." "In times of peace, the war party insists on making preparation for war. As soon as prepared for, it insists on making war." "The underlying reason indeed why both parties have failed to take the people's side in the present crisis is that neither party can openly attack the real evils which are undermining representative government without convicting themselves of treachery to the voters during their recent tenure in office." "Every nation has its war party. It is not the party of democracy. It is the party of autocracy. It seeks to dominate absolutely. It is commercial, imperialistic, ruthless. It tolerates no opposition. It is just as arrogant, just as despotic, in London, or in Washington, as in Berlin. The American Jingo is twin to the German Junker.... If there is no sufficient reason for war, the war party will make war on one pretext, then invent another." "The purpose of this ridiculous campaign is to throw the country into a state of sheer terror, to change public opinion, to stifle criticism, and suppress discussion. People are being unlawfully arrested, thrown into jail, held incommunicado for days, only to be eventually discharged without ever having been taken into court, because they have committed no crime. But more than this, if every preparation for war can be made the excuse for destroying free speech and a free press and the right of the people to assemble together for peaceful discussion, then we may well despair of ever again finding ourselves for a long period in a state of peace. The destruction of rights now occurring will be pointed to then as precedents for a still further invasion of the rights of the citizen." "America is not made, it is in the making. Mere passive citizenship is not enough. Men must be aggressive for what is right if government is to be saved from those who are aggressive for what is wrong." All of the above were said by one of my political heroes, Robert M. "Fighting Bob" La Follette, the former governor and U.S. Senator from Wisconsin (1855-1925). And another of my favorites from Barry Goldwater, another of my politcal heroes: "Free people have a right to do as they damn well please."

Remember "You want to take away my gusto?" That got interpreted by advertising industry people as "Drink Schlitz or I'll kill you". -
Some A-Hole In NJ Won The $212 Million Lottery!!
buckeyemike replied to Steely Dan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I have a theory on this: 1) Television. People see the good life on numerous television shows and they begin to wonder how they can get it. About the same time as television became really popular, the first state lottery came along in New Hampshire. The biggest annual prize at the time was $50,000.00, IIRC (this was in the early 60s). 2) People have gotten lazier. Many already depend on the govt. to take care of them, so what's shelling out a few bucks for lottery tickets? You might get lucky. You have a better chance of being struck by lightning, too. 3) This is more of an effect, and this is gonna sound heartless, but live with it: Some people just don't know how to handle money. It's one reason why you see so many lottery winners filing for bankruptcy within a few years. There should be mandatory courses in public schools about money management, because we have completely forgotten the word "thrift" in this country. I've had my own business for 11 years, and I have to save every year for my retirement and taxes. You learn a hell of a lot when you're in charge of your own success or failure. -
Robin Williams himself once said that cocaine is God's way of telling you that you make too much money.

Link to Green Bay Press-Gazette article. 40 years ago, Schlitz was America's most popular beer brand. Today...um, not so much. The last time I saw a dusty case of Schlitz in a convenience store was probably sometime around 2000. You know what happened to them? Budweiser had overtaken Schlitz by 1974, and Robert Uihlein, who ran the brewery, decided to cut costs by speeding up the fermentation process to only four days (from 14). This caused green film to form inside of beer cans, and while the film was harmless, let's just say it wasn't appealing. Today, Pabst owns Schlitz, and may be attempting a marketing comeback for another of their brands...it worked for PBR, it may work for Schlitz.

In a word, yes, I believe it is totally scripted. And I'd rather watch wrestling than this crap. -
My first thought upon seeing this was "What did Vice President Biden say this time?" Then I opened the link.

Thank God my wife hates reality TV. I didn't watch a single minute of it, but I've seen the posts here and every commercial that The Insider has run on this, and I have the following to say: This guy is a complete and utter douchebag. What he did to Melissa was completely classless. And IMO, after seeing the two women, he definitely traded. Down. Molly's nowhere near as pretty, but as most men do, he's probably not thinking with his brain. If you get my drift. Melissa's gorgeous, but Molly probably does nasty things to Jason in bed. -

The Dean rolls pot onto hot dogs and smokes them...he calls them "mariweenies". -
And Portland's actually one of the places I'd like to live. The weather can't...repeat, can't...be worse than Cleveland in the winter. See, my dad lived near Corvallis as a teen. I know it's wet there.

"Some A-Hole In NJ" Isn't that redundant? -
I guess this gives new meaning to the phrase "getting in her pants". BTW, not porn, but I do want to comment here: Religious conservatives and feminists are probably on the same side on this one, but for different reasons.

Hmmm...I thought this was the last of the Terminator movies.
