Calling BuckeyeMike...CSU B-Ball player
buckeyemike replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bullock's an interesting kid...he's definitely big enough to play tight end. He was the star player on this year's Cleveland State basketball team. I wonder if he can catch a football, however. And I'm not sure he's fast enough to play in the NFL, but you need more size than speed from the tight end spot. I remember telling people that C.C. Sabathia could have been an All-American tight end had he gone to college and not signed with the Indians right out of high school, since he was recruited as a TE. Sabathia even committed to the University of Hawaii, but went for baseball instead. Bullock is certainly bright, and would have little if any problem digesting an NFL playbook. The lack of playing football in college didn't seem to hurt Antonio Gates any. I think the Bills should give him a look. BTW, Sam Clancy was mentioned here. I thought you meant the son, but on reading this again, I think you mean the Sam Clancy who played for the Browns in the late 80s. I knew both father and son played basketball; the son led St. Edward in Lakewood to a state basketball title a few years back. -
I heard this the other day on the radio, and I'm glad you provided a link, because I didn't have one. Never thought that FNL would last five seasons. Great news!

This should be an easy one: "They say it has no memory. That's where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory."

My brother was class of 1995. And he's gonna wonder what a Bemidji is. I bet he doesn't remember it's located in Minnesota. I think you have to love a team named the Beavers.
-
Someone said the following in one of those articles about Bemidji: The five things to do in the winter time in Bemidji are hockey, hockey, curling, hockey, and hockey.

According to an article in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, this is a huge time for Bemidji State. The WCHA reps are there this week. They also break ground for their new arena this Friday. And, of course, the Frozen Four next week (against Miami of Ohio, which is my brother's alma mater). If the Beavers actually win the national championship, it could be the best Cinderella story in college sports since Chaminade over Virginia. From what I'm reading, it sounds like they can skate with anybody. Congrats on going to DC, Shrader!

Beating Notre Dame and Cornell back-to-back. This may be a true rags-to-riches story. The Bemidji State Beavers are in the Frozen Four. Their old conference (College Hockey America) is about to dissolve, although the Beavers may go to the WCHA. A good run to the Frozen Four certainly doesn't hurt. I'm not sure anyone here knows anything about Bemidji. My dad's parents were from Northern Minnesota, and I still have relatives in the area. There are few areas of this country still so unspoiled. But even I don't know a whole lot about Bemidji. I know quite a bit more about the North Dakota Fightin' Sioux (and their beautiful arena), since my dad spent 9 years of his childhood in Grand Forks. Still, I think it says something when a team can fly so well under the radar in this day and age. College hockey, although gaining in popularity over the past decade or so, isn't exactly March Madness. EDIT: I checked out their media guide online...Bemidji State hockey has won 13 national titles at lower levels, the last coming in Division II in 1997. They have been D-I since the 1999-2000 season.

It's hard to believe that April 7 is the 20th anniversary of Major League's release.

interesting proposal to split NY state
buckeyemike replied to drinkTHEkoolaid's topic in Off the Wall Archives
A split has been proposed in California as well. From the Sacramento Bee back in February. I think we're getting to the point where this could (and I stress emphasis on the word COULD) happen someday. If it happens in NYS, I think it happens in California...or vice versa. -
That is officially my new favorite commercial! "Who are you calling pops??" (followed by Bobby Knight throwing the fake drumset)
-
Sawgrass in July? I'm surprised you didn't melt. But that's another of the courses I'd love to play someday.
-
Prayers to you, my friend. Please take care!

Tiger wins! Remarkable comeback...a good save from the bunker on 17 and that putt to win on 18, with all the camera bulbs flashing through the dusk, is one I'll have in my head for a long, long time. I've always wanted to play Bay Hill. Looks like a beautiful course! Maybe someday, if my golf game gets better and I win a couple of huge cases...you never know. BTW, I saw possibly the most gorgeous course I've ever seen on the Golf Channel today. It's Punta Espada Golf Club at Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic. The Champions Tour event was there this week. Sand, green grass, palm trees, right up against the Caribbean Sea...what more do you need in life?

Palmer's back on NBC right now.
-
I'm not sure if there's a person on this earth that hates Arnold Palmer. He started golf on its way to the sport it has become. He was always charging on Sunday, it seems. Sometimes his charges would be backward as much as they were forward. He blew a big lead in 1966 in one of the majors (U.S. Open, I believe), something like 7 shots with 9 holes to play. People forget he never won a major after 1964. It's his behavior, humility, and love of the game that made Arnie what he still is today. John Feinstein's book "A Good Walk Spoiled" tells of how Palmer made the cut at his tournament in Bay Hill in 1991 -- when he was 61 years old. There was an impromptu party, thrown by the other golfers, that congratulated Arnie on making the weekend for the first time in many years. Being it was Bay Hill made it all the more special. Also, without Arnold Palmer, there is no Champions tour. His enduring popularity led to its creation. And he also co-owned the Golf Channel when it started. Arnie sold his share to Comcast and made millions off it. It will be a sad day in sports, not just golf, when Arnold Palmer passes on. He's nearing his eightieth birthday.

Shamwow Guy Arrested For Beating Up A Hooker

Best thing I've read all day. And I really needed a laugh, too. Thanks Faustus. EDIT: I just realized he's also the Slap Chop guy. -
Austin is the color guy for Cavs broadcasts on TV.

Probably NSFW, due to the beheading of a chicken. But I find this amazing...South Park can explain the recession, and CNN can't? Truly wondrous times that we live in...

Can Cleveland finally win a title? The Cavaliers are already in uncharted territory. They won 58 games this year, the most by any Cavs team. They won their first division title in 33 years, and only the second one ever. Two years ago, they rode LeBron all the way to the Finals. Cleveland got swept by San Antonio. So I pose these questions: 1) Is this Cavaliers team the best in the East? 2) Are they the best in the NBA? 3) Will Cleveland be celebrating a championship sometime around June 20?

Beat me to it.

Apparently, none of you have ever been to Wisconsin. Brats is good eatin'.
