Biggest Douchebag in the World?
buckeyemike replied to billsfanmiami(oh)'s topic in Off the Wall Archives
My wife and I have a running joke about Billy Mays. Whenever we see a serious commercial for some product, we imitate how Billy Mays would do it. -
This is very sad. RIP and condolences to the Kemp family. In 1993 I attended a speech Kemp gave at Cleveland State University. I even got to shake his hand afterwards. One of my favorite memories of the last twenty years.

Welcome to the jungle, it gets worse here every day. BTW, I've been here for 6 1/2 years, and they haven't kicked me out yet, so there's hope for you.

I knew that would be your comeback! I think I'll leave your you-know-what alone.

I should punch your kitty for that! BTW, that's the same guy who started Fathead, the wall graphics company now owned by Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert. Soon, you will be able to send your son or daughter's pic in for a custom-made Fathead. Link.

Have you ever stopped to think about how much

I really need to steal that as my sig line. Well done! -
Died suddenly of an apparent heart attack early Friday morning at age 52. Link to Las Vegas Review-Journal article. This guy was an amazing impressionist, but he was not well known outside of Las Vegas. I can't find too much on his act on YouTube, but he just moved over to the new Encore Resort in Vegas. I've never been to Vegas and I never saw him perform, but I'm sure someone here has. I understand he was better and had a wider range than Frank Caliendo. RIP.

Wow...amazing that one of my threads gets resurrected after two years.

Leroy Hill to re-sign with Seattle
buckeyemike replied to thebandit27's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hill previously turned down a six year, $36 million extension. The Seahawks have not disclosed contract terms, other than it is "multi-year". I figure the new deal has to be somewhere close to the one he turned down, with a large signing bonus. -
Linky (may be NSFW due to one word)

Leroy Hill to re-sign with Seattle

Leroy Hill and Aaron Curry in the linebacking corps for the Seahawks...pretty nice for them! -
Retatta. Nothing else has given so many people so much joy.

Yeah, I heard about this the other day. I wonder if she was forced to be there, or if the owners of the strip club looked the other way.

Just about anything that MST3K parodied would qualify for the list. But the all-time cake taker has to be "Manos: The Hands of Fate". That was a truly disturbing film -- even the humor of MST3K couldn't overshadow that. There aren't any clips of the MST3K episode on YouTube, but there are clips of the movie itself. I won't even bother linking to it. You guys can find that stuff on your own.

One that I only saw one other person mention here was Seattle. Qwest Field's design is such that the roof on top of the sidelines actually reverberates the noise back down onto the field and the seating bowl. It's a really unique and deliberate quirk about the stadium. Supposedly, the Seahawks lead in opposing team false start penalties since Qwest opened seven years ago...a stat that I'm not sure any other team keeps, either. They also have that vertical video board on top of the Hawks Nest bleachers section, with the skyline of Downtown Seattle beyond that...very cool. Qwest Field is one of the few NFL stadiums that I'd like to venture to someday, because it is one of a kind.

Dear God. Whatever happened to Marjoe Gortner? He had that documentary made about him being a fraud as an evangelist; he was in "Earthquake", had a short-lived TV show called "Speak Up America", and fell off the face of the earth about 30 years ago. Oh, BTW, the documentary "Marjoe" is available in parts on YouTube. BTW, I attend an Assemblies of God church, so I've seen a lot of Marjoe types over the years.

And I thought Chef was gonna B word slap you because you dared to string together the words "box" and "wine".

No, no, a thousand times no!!!

He did. The Vikings signed him as an undrafted free agent. Linky.

Most real Redskins fans pine for the days of RFK...I've been told that the stadium used to literally shake whenever the Skins made a big play. That would have been a great atmosphere to watch a game in. My dad was a Washington Redskins fan for many years. He used to go to games when the Redskins played at Griffith Park, which tells you how many years ago that was. There's a really good write up on FedEx Field by your fellow Buffalonians at the Ultimate Sports Road Trip site here.

The only stadiums I've been to are Browns Stadium, old Cleveland Municipal, and I took a tour of Lambeau before it was renovated. Browns Stadium = overrated, far too vanilla. The upper deck feels like it's in Akron. About the only thing I truly like are the video boards. My main problem is that it's a white elephant, and might be used 20 days a year. The city paid $300 million for a stadium that's probably been occupied a grand total of 200 days in the last 10 years. It completely misses the atmosphere of old Municipal. Cleveland Municipal Stadium = it was a dump, but dammit, it was OUR dump. The best place to watch a game was the Dawg Pound, which tells you all you need to know about how it wasn't built for football either. The 50 yard line seats were too far away from the field. The food was bad (the hot dogs were usually cold), the wind off the lake could get real fierce after Thanksgiving, my digital watch had more power than the scoreboard -- but it screamed Cleveland and was a classic old building. Lambeau Field = probably the world's most perfect football stadium. The Packers smartly turned it into a year-round destination, with the building of the atrium, the expanded Pro Shop, a year-round restaurant (but it works at Lambeau). None of that was there when I visited in 1998, and I was struck by how simple the place was. The seating bowl looked like 15 high school grandstands fused together around the field...and it still mostly looks that way, except for some club seats on one side and the luxury boxes on top. Be glad for what you have in Buffalo. Not every city needs to have, or can have, a new Meadowlands Stadium or the giant football-shaped airplane hangar that's nearing completion in Arlington, TX. And be careful what you wish for...you could wind up with another Browns Stadium, heaven forbid.

The hell of it is, he's right. And it hurts, too.

Did anyone else notice that the crowd in Detroit was chanting "MVP! MVP!" for Lebron yesterday? I know a LOT of Cleveland fans made the three hour drive to the Palace yesterday...StubHub had tickets as cheap as $11.00 yesterday morning, and the Cavs fans seemed to take over the building in the second half. Now, Cleveland waits about a week to see if they meet Atlanta or Miami in the second round.

BTW, I know this is a bit off-topic, but the Tavern League in Wisconsin is so powerful that liquor stores there close at 9:00 P.M. The bars close at 2:30 A.M. The Tavern League would rather you spend your paycheck at the corner bar than at the liquor store. And Appleton, WI (population: 70,000) has more bars than Memphis, a city with 10 times the population. The Tavern League is the same organization that has fought off every challenge to change Wisconsin's drunk-driving laws. However, there is a new effort afoot to add some teeth to the penalties to drunk driving there. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel has run a series of reports on the drinking culture in America's Dairyland (and the influence of the Tavern League) called Wasted in Wisconsin. It's actually a pretty good read, if you have the time.

And this is why all of New England goes to New Hampshire to buy their booze.
