  1. I also did the CN Tower. Didn't scare me a bit, but I was 12 then. The funny thing is, being on a ladder or up 20-30 feet scares me much more than being way, way up.
  2. Didn't know Michael's dad was still alive, thanks. Did you know Kirk never won an Oscar for his acting work? He did get a special honorary one in 1996.
  3. RIP. He was 97...certainly one of the most recognizable actors on stage and screen. Out of his era, I can only think of one character actor who is still alive, and that's Ernest Borgnine.
  4. Best of luck tomorrow. Beers will be on you.
  5. Most people have forgotten this; that Gore did not carry Tennessee (or his predecessor's state, Arkansas) in 2000. Thank you for reminding us. +1. The Democrats have about 18 months with the super majority. I predict the Republicans will pick up 4 or 5 Senate seats in 2010. Although this may not be as bad as we think...the Dems have to walk in lockstep, and all of them have to be present. Byrd's been in the hospital, and Kennedy's fighting his brain tumor. It has to be 60. It can't be 58.
  6. Can I get some of that action for Ozzy Osbourne?
  7. I agree, for the most part, with Chef. You and I could never have been victimized here, because Bernie Madoff didn't take clients who came to him. He came to you. The super rich, the wealthy, and well-known. It was all a Ponzi scheme, and I'm convinced that his wife and sons knew about it, if they were not assisting him. Madoff took advantage of those who were wealthy and thought that they could play the system, if not outright beat it. Rich people, like everyone else, want more money. The wealthy desire to be ultra-wealthy. The wealthy desire to be far above you and me in the money department, which made them perfect targets for the scheme. Madoff played into the basest of human vices (greed), and probably would have gotten away with it had the economy not collapsed last fall. I thought the sentence would be somewhere around 75 years, which would be a life sentence anyway. The federal prison system does not have parole, but it does have "good time". A federal prisoner usually serves about 85% of the sentence, and Madoff would die in prison with anything over a 25 year term. The 150 years surprised me.
  8. Happy birthday Pooj!
  9. If you've seen The Buddy Holly Story, Travelina played Buffalo DJ Madman Mancuso, who locked himself in the studio playing "That'll Be The Day" for twelve hours straight. I remember him...did a very good JFK impression. RIP
  10. .17? Early in the morning? Is she putting vodka in her corn flakes?
  11. Honestly...I thought this was another rumor when I read it. But it's true. RIP to the Oxyclean man, and I guess my wife and I have to retire our "Billy Mays for..." jokes.
  12. This Wisconsin woman's had 4 DUIs in the last eight weeks!
  13. Farrah Fawcett on the Dating Game in 1969. Note the Texas accent in her voice. Wonder if any of the bachelors are still alive, or if they even remember this.
  14. I don't know, man. I just don't know...sounds really tough. Offer prayers, light a candle at church, offer help...do whatever you can.
  15. Link. Los Angeles Times now reporting that Michael Jackson has been pronounced dead. RIP.
  16. Los Angeles Times is reporting that Michael Jackson is in a coma, and that family is at his bedside. TMZ.com is reporting the death, and Drudge Report has picked up on it.
  17. Boy, I've been here going on seven years and I don't remember that one.
  18. RIP...I'm 40, so I remember Farrah's popularity well.
  19. We here in Cleveland pretty much knew this was coming. Wallace is too broken down, and Sasha Pavlovic was never going to be a star. It's the right move, IMO. It may also be Shaq's last chance at a ring. There's some chance that the Cavaliers may try to move way up in the draft tonight, but I don't know what they can part with at this point, besides Varejao.
  20. If you're a Favre fan, you're not a Packers fan. End of story. This has much more to do with the fact that Favre hates Ted Thompson than anything else, and Favre wants his revenge. Alas, those who seek revenge don't always obtain it. I know this was discussed a while back on the board, but I believe it bears repeating. Plus, it's something extremely rare: something I actually agree with Michael Irvin on. "Listen, Favre's 100 years old; stop this already," Irvin told Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times. Irvin was recently in Los Angeles to promote his Spike TV reality show "4th and Long." "This is what's killing everybody. Every time Favre says, 'I want to come back,' it's like everybody on ESPN says, 'Whatever team he says he wants to come to, he makes them automatically a Super Bowl contender.' "They said that same stuff last year with the Jets, and Favre gave out toward the end of the season. I love Favre and I think he's been a phenomenal talent for a long time. But when I think about it now, I say, 'Stop it already.' I don't mind that you still want to play football, but do you want to play so much, and you want to get back at [Green Bay General Manager] Ted Thompson so much, that you're willing to go back into Lambeau and hurt those fans that supported you for so long?"
  21. Just end this dance already... If Favre wants to be a Viking, fine. I think he's pretty close to being done anyway. One bad hit on that shoulder, and that's it, IMO. Circle these dates on your calendar: Monday October 5 -- Packers at Vikings on ESPN. Sunday November 1 -- Vikings at Packers. If Favre signs, this becomes the highest rated regular season game in Fox history.
  22. That had to do with Ed and sex. I can't remember exactly what, however. It's been ages since I read it.
  23. America's Funniest Videos. Now if you re-name the show Ow My Balls, then you would have something.
