A man who sticks to his guns. Served 14 years for
buckeyemike replied to stuckincincy's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I agree 100%. I will not handle divorces in my law practice b/c of my Christian beliefs, but something like 45% of marriages between Christians end in divorce. And those may be the saddest words I've ever typed. -
So what you're saying is that people who believe in God are nuts, somehow evil and want to overthrow the American political system? Try telling that to 50 million Christians in this country.

We don't really know the details here. My guess is more may come out later on. Will he leave the country? Is the money stashed somewhere? Or did he really not have it? Greed is a tremendously powerful thing. -
Yes nice can.

I knew I'd seen it on YouTube before.

The Annual Pamplona Running of the Bulls

After watching the opening scene of this movie, the answer would be no. -
Why is it that the Professor on Gilligan's Island could make anything out of coconut shells, but couldn't fix a hole in the boat? Mrs. Brady didn't work. So why did she have a full-time housekeeper? The Beverly Hillbillies were originally from Tennessee, which has no state income tax. So why did they move to California, a state where people are taxed heavily? Why did the girls on The Facts of Life live with Mrs. Garrett for seven years? What on earth does "schlemiel, schlimazel, hasenpfeffer" mean, and why are Laverne and Shirley singing it?

I represented a kid in a dogfighting case...years before Michael Vick. He got a misdemeanor because he was a spectator and didn't own any of the dogs.

Men are no longer necessary for procreation

No A.J. and this topic's over 24 hours old? I'm shocked. Shocked, I say. -
That's food for thought. Gotta ask my dad.

Steve McNair found shot to death
buckeyemike replied to Cornerville's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I tend to agree. I trust very few people these days...and I think that's pretty sad. But our society is becoming increasingly bitter and unforgiving. I mentioned that in a topic a couple of months ago. It ain't good, that's for sure. -
Apparently that girl doesn't have a job.

I don't know where the heck it would be in my home state. There are big chunks of western Ohio that are pretty empty, so I guess you could put it there. And no, it wasn't Thirdborn who had the theory. I would have remembered that. I think it was some troll. -

Michael Jackson dead - Cardiac Arrest
buckeyemike replied to Southern McButterpants.'s topic in Off the Wall Archives
Fox showed the Michael Jackson episode of the Simpsons tonight. This is the one where a mental patient (who's white, bald, and overweight) talks with Jackson's voice. That episode originally aired in 1991. Also known as the year I graduated from college. -

A while back on this board, there was some guy propagating the theory that a missile, not a jet, crashed into the Pentagon on that horrible day. He was all gung-ho about his little theory. Until someone (I don't remember who) posted that they lived nearby and actually saw the jet flying low from their apartment window seconds before it hit the Pentagon. It shut the theorist up pretty damn quick. The point is, none of us know the circumstances until the authorities piece together the evidence and figure out what happened. That will take weeks, maybe even months, but it will probably be done correctly by the Nashville Police Department. So we can take all of our theories and $3.50, and buy a latte at Starbucks. Oh, BTW, leave Cablelady alone. I had the same thought...he's a married man, what in the world is he doing with a girl half his age, spending all this time with her and buying a truck with her, etc. But other than that, it is none of our business because we're not affected. -
Good news for Alaskans - Palin resigning
buckeyemike replied to PastaJoe's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I hear people (not here...yet) saying, thank God we didn't elect McCain. She'd be a heartbeat away from the Presidency. I pray for our President. Largely b/c if anything happens to him, the guy next in line used to plagiarize speeches and with his penchant for malaprops and twisting the English language, makes former President Bush look like an Ivy League professor. Remember, people: Joe Biden is a heartbeat away from the Presidency. How the (bleep) is he better than Palin? -

What the hell? I'm over at my in-laws for a party...heard this on the way over to pick up the barbecue. RIP. This is terribly sad news, and I expect it will all get sorted out. -
To be FREE AND INDEPENDENT STATES. That phrase appears twice in the last paragraph, and "Independent States" appears once. My, how things have changed over the last 233 years.

These two guys were idiots, enough said. They were trying to make a political statement in front of a large, somewhat captive audience. And Rick Monday's known more for this than hitting the home run which won the '81 pennant for the Dodgers. If these two guys tried this in most other nations with the flag of that nation, we'd never hear from them again. Be thankful for the freedoms you have here. The rule should be, you have a right to burn the flag. And a crowd of people has a right to beat the hell out of you when you do. I remember what Dennis Miller once said when a pic on "Weekend Update" showed a young woman with a wadded-up American flag in her mouth: "Gee, I'm not feeling free enough tonight; why don't I just tie the flag in knots and pass it through my colon? To me, this isn't a patriotic issue; it's just good manners. You're not being un-American when you burn the flag. You're just being a major pain in the @$$."

Now Alexis Arguello is dead......the hits keep coming

Boom Boom was never the same after that. I remember it well. I also think it's amazing that Youngstown has produced two world champion boxers in the last 25 years, between Boom Boom and Kelly Pavlik, considering how economically depressed that area is. -
When dating a hot girl, the first rule is: CALM DOWN. There are many other fish in the sea. If you have one now, you will have another one later if this one doesn't work out. You obviously did something right to get this one. When Kim and I were first dating, I remember there being another guy who was interested in her. I believe he even asked her out while we were dating. Ultimately, she wasn't interested in him. I kept my thoughts to myself on the situation, appeared cool and collected, did not overreact and guess what happened? The threat passed. Kim and I have been together 12 years and will celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary on September 11.

LAMP: Defending my PhD dissertation on thursday
buckeyemike replied to Ramius's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Congrats! At least you know you passed. Back in 1994, I had to wait 14 weeks for my Ohio bar exam results. Most excruciating 14 weeks of my life, but I did pass on the first try.
