(OT)NewOrleans has no one to blame but...
buckeyemike replied to DeeRay's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Here's an interesting article. It's from NewsMax, so be forewarned. However, the article seems to be well-researched and documents New Orleans' own civil emergency plan. No matter what happens, or who the President is, one party or the other will blame him for not doing his job effectively and quickly. Mike -

September 11 is my sixth wedding anniversary. I will be only 35 miles away, across the border in Niagara Falls. There always seems to be good weather on my anniversary. You're welcome. Mike -
ESPN reporting this morning SAINTS MOVE
buckeyemike replied to NavyBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Supposedly, Rams founder Dan Reeves went to Fordham University, whose sports teams are known as the Rams. The team, when founded in 1937 in Cleveland, was named in their honor. After winning the NFL championship in 1945, they were moved to Los Angeles, b/c the Rams never drew very well and the Browns (with former OSU head coach Paul Brown) were moving in the next year. Cleveland couldn't support two football teams, so the Rams went west, becoming the first major league team on the West Coast. Mike -
ESPN reporting this morning SAINTS MOVE

TSN is reporting the same thing, almost verbatim. I agree with SNR (and this is twice in the last week...amazing) that maybe Los Angeles doesn't really want an NFL team. If you lived there, which would you rather see, USC or a Los Angeles Saints team? Mike -
Is Teflon's 10 Yr. Plan still on target?

1200 yards (and double-digits rushing touchdowns) to me would be a home run. Mike -
Is Teflon's 10 Yr. Plan still on target?
buckeyemike replied to DeeRay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The main thing I'm worried about is keeping JP upright and healthy. If he's sputtering in Week 5, and Holcomb comes in, we're in trouble. Prognosticating is half the fun around here...those who are usually positive (including myself) sometimes have to eat their words, while those who are negative occasionally must be served a dish of crow or humble pie. TD flamed miserably with the GW hire (I posted here before that GW was his last choice, and everyone else he wanted was gone...really, TD wanted Marvin Lewis), but the pickups of Spikes, Fletcher, and the home run of Willis McGahee, have offset many of TD's early mistakes. Bledsoe looked good for half a season, and the jury will be out on JP for sometime. Just don't expect Kelly Holcomb to win games for you consistently. With the Browns, some of Holcomb's best efforts came in spectacular losses (the Steelers playoff game, Helmet-throw, 58-48). My view? Losman does well for a virtual rookie, McGahee takes his game to another level (and some MVP consideration), the special teams are tops in the league again, and the defense more than holds their own. I say, 10-6 with a wildcard berth. Mike -
I am so sorry to hear that. On a lesser scale, I can relate, after a 13 day hospital stay for supposed Crohn's disease and stomach surgery almost six months ago. This was my LAMP post -- I got a lot of support on this board. The good news is, I gained all my weight back and I have not had any flare-ups. My gastro doctor thinks it may not be Crohn's after all, but some sort of one-time viral infection. I'm still on Pentasa, however. I also have asthma, sinusitis, and knee problems, both left and right. And I'm still only 36 years old. Mike

This is a 6-10 Team This Year
buckeyemike replied to BenchBledsoe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bill, I see where you're coming from, but my formerly beloved Cleveland Browns have not had a 1,000 yard rusher since Nineteen Eighty-Five. That's right, 1985. Twenty seasons since Kevin Mack and Earnest Byner did it together. To the Browns, three consecutive seasons of 1,000 yard rushers would be a cause for celebration. Hell, one would be. Mike -

Kerry's cleaned himself up, I'll give him credit for that. He did lead the New York Giants to a Super Bowl, after all. Nice gesture. Mike -

I haven't watched 24 for a while...and considering it's going to a fifth season, it's made me think, what happens when we get to the 5th year of Lost and Prison Break? Mike -
Why? What happened on campus on Saturday? Da da da da, da da da da, GO BUCKS!! Mike

This is a 6-10 Team This Year
buckeyemike replied to BenchBledsoe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The line does concern me...it's starting to remind me of some of the terrible Browns O-lines I've seen since about 1988. That said, one advantage JP has over Bledsoe...of course, his LEGS. He's gotta learn to slide, however, or he'll be hurt again. However, one thing we've forgotten to mention is that there have been three consecutive years with a 1,000 yard rusher...even with this line. The coaches and players have to be doing something right to accomplish that. Mike -

This should prove, once and for all, that Carol Moseley Braun is a freaking idiot. I don't give a rat's @$$ what race she is. Idiocy transcends race, gender, creed, and sexuality. Mike

No. No new stadium. Wait until the old one has outlived its usefulness and THEN you can build a new one. Start saving your nickels and dimes now for the future, but I don't think a new stadium is needed for at least another 20 years. That would be a pretty novel idea for this country in the 21st century. Mike

Arizona Cardinals New Stadium design
buckeyemike replied to buffalobillsfootball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like the design...it's going to be a landmark, and I understand Phoenix will bid for a Final Four soon. It will be the only building west of San Antonio that's large enough to hold one. Mike -
I don't blame President Bush. In fact, I cannot blame one single person for the travesty that has occurred here. If I was going to blame anyone, it would be the following (in order): 1) The corrupt local officials in New Orleans, who were more interested in lining their pockets than protecting their citizens. 2) The looters and those who somehow believe that society (read: Whitey) has had it in for them for so long that when disaster strikes, it's their RIGHT to go into a Wal-Mart and steal DVD players and Sopranos box sets. 3) The media. I usually watch Fox News, but Shepard Smith has become insufferable, so I turn the channel whenever he's on. Someone said here the other day if you want agenda-free coverage, watch the Weather Channel. I agree 100%. And the Frosty Haired One, Anderson Cooper, is probably going to become a star because of this. Go home guys, and let Jim Cantore and J-Lo handle this one. 4) Why did so many stay? Even if I was so poor I had to walk, my @$$ would have been out of New Orleans by Saturday night. People seem to have little concept of the fury of Nature. 5) FEMA. They didn't do a real good job the first few days, but they seem to have gotten their bearings in the last 36 hours. The slow response (once again) is not the President's fault. Do you honestly believe he wanted to see lower-class people suffer? What a bunch of B.S. If you're gonna blame anyone, blame the bureaucrats. Mike
