I'm not buying Denver as an elite team either. Not when Jake Plummer will remember that he's Jake Plummer at some point. The Steelers are doing exactly what they do every year, and they've raised it to an art form. Solid running game, exceptional O line, and terrific defensive play brings winners, and I think the Steelers understand this better than any other team...dammit. The only thing that would make this season complete is another Steeler el foldo in the AFC Championship. It's to the point now that you can almost set your watch by it. The Colts are dominant this year, I think that's obvious. I think they probably go 14-2 (I don't see them running the table. Not when the AFC South could be clinched as early as Thanksgiving, and they can rest some of their starters). The Indianapolis Colts are the team to beat. I admit, I bought into the NY Giants hooplah. Then, they lay an egg against Minnesota, who, believe it or not, is one game out of a playoff spot. I think I will stick with my preseason Super Bowl prediction of Indy and Atlanta, even with their embarrassing loss to the Packers this week. Mike

How wierd is it that AC Slater is
buckeyemike replied to taterhill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
About five posts long. (((Rim Shot))) No seriously, it's about Mario Lopez suddenly being gainfully employed by ESPN as an interviewer and host. The line between sports and entertainment has become so blurred as to disappear. That, or we're living in a parallel universe now. I'm not totally sure. Mike -
A LOT of people here are still mad about Art Modell. I'm not one of them. I've said here before that I've long since forgiven Art Modell for moving the Browns. The Browns came back with a brand new stadium (which would be akin to a Brooklyn Dodgers expansion team in a brand-new Ebbets Field in 1961). Brand new team with the same colors and helmets. Owners in the Lerner Family with deep, deep pockets. Randy Lerner has a chance to be a terrific owner. However, it seems to me that the wine-and-cheese-corporate-snot crowd that the NFL craves today has taken things over. Granted, the old stadium was a dump where many fights and the overuse of alcohol/marijuana occurred, but still, it's almost too clean now, too antiseptic. Also, it's interesting what Bill Belichick says in the article. Even he, The Great Genius Coach of The Great Bruschi, has admitted making mistakes. And Modell, who is in poor health, tries to justify the move once again. Art, you simply delayed the inevitable in moving your franchise. You could have been the hero in selling to an Al Lerner or Peter Lewis (chairman of Cleveland-based Progressive Insurance). Instead, you cut your losses and got bailed out, winning a Super Bowl in another city. To the City of Cleveland: It's of no use to us to be bitter at Art Modell anymore. It's been 10 years. We have a new stadium, a new team, and a coach and organization that may finally build a contender. Someday, the Browns will win a Super Bowl (I think within the next 5 to 10 years, a Lombardi Trophy will be at Browns Stadium)...will we finally forgive Modell then? This town holds an awful lot of grudges...I doubt it. MIke

Anyone follow the Mid-American conference ?
buckeyemike replied to e-dog's topic in College Football
The Miami-Bowling Green game has started, almost two hours late. Not much of a crowd in the stands...maybe 4,000 in a 30,000 seat stadium. It is still raining. Interestingly, the Ohio-Akron game is still going on up here...we're under a tornado watch. High winds outside, but it's 68 degrees at 9:50 on a November evening. Mike -
I don't want my government to force a particular religion upon me. Someday, the Christians may not be the majority in this country. And then, if the populace wants me to convert to, say, Islam, my rights to practice my religion will be protected under the Constitution. It all depends on whose ox is getting gored. Mike

My brother went to Miami of Ohio, so I do follow the MAC somewhat. Miami/Bowling Green should be a solid game. Akron is better than Ohio, but OU beat Pitt earlier this year. Mike -
He's a Corrections Officer at the Niagara County Jail. I hope Lee Evans and Eric Warfield pay his medical bills. I smell a Workers' Compensation claim. Mike

USC might be one of the best ever. Texas is no match for them. Trojans by about four touchdowns. Mike

I did see the crowd cheering him as he was leaving (and waving) on NFL Primetime. Mike

Dude, I've been supporting the Jills since practically my first day here. That was three years ago. I prefer real women, with real...well, you know. A healthy looking girl, who looks like she enjoys a cheeseburger every once in a while, is my favorite type. The Jill in the pic is very attractive. At least the Bills have cheerleaders. My formerly beloved Browns have the Bone Lady. Mike

Sorry...no trolls until the Miami game. Then, of course, all hell breaks loose. Mike -
The ACLU has its place. Preferably, under a rock. That's not to say that the organization hasn't done some good, but in recent years, it seems that its purpose is to keep God out of public discourse. I am a devout Christian. However, I will call a spade a spade and criticize where needed. Pat Robertson, for example, is prone to idiotic statements because he knows that if he says something like he did last week, he gets press. Problem is, he's 75 years old and is largely irrelevant in the public eye these days. I used to be a fan of James Dobson, who is an extremely intelligent man. However, I think he's gone off the deep end in recent years. I think, deep down inside, he wants to advise Presidents and be close to Those In Power. No one can say a word about his morals (there's never been a hint of impropriety on Dobson and he's been married to the same woman for 45 years), so his politics are attacked, often justly, at times not. Former Alabama Justice Roy Moore is a political hack who came upon the brainstorm that if he posted the 10 Commandments in his courtroom and he was "persecuted" for it, he could run for higher office and be a hero to the Religious Right. And dang if he wasn't right. My view is that the 10 Commandments are something to be on our hearts. If a church wants to put the monument on its front lawn, all the better. But there are better ways to fight battles than picking fights with the ACLU. The "religious right" is a loose term. Am I a member of the "rr" because I'm a Protestant Christian and pro-life Republican? It would seem I fit the definition. But, as anyone who goes to church with me can attest, I can be an iconoclast. I will the first to admit that my tastes can be somewhat worldly. I try to live a life that Jesus would live. I'm not always successful, but I prefer that life than the alternative. Mike

Every time I'm offered the choice, I say "Bleu cheese, as God intended." You're right, Buffalo has some of the best food. It's better than Cleveland. Mike

I know...I saw that awful Tommy Lee Jones movie where he was a Texas Ranger guarding the cheerleaders who witnessed a murder. Too bad I hate the Longhorns. Mike

This was ugly. I went to bed at 27-7, Pittsburgh. Cowher is now 16-5 against the Browns. Makes me wanna puke. Mike -
Uh, I believe we had this scrum already... Maybe twice. Mike

Will Mike and the Crew bring up the deity that is Tedy Bruschi? Or will they anoint Ben Roethlisberger, even though he isn't even playing? I see at least one Suzy interview with the Guy They Named A Sandwich After. Will they play up Charlie Batch? I have heard some grumbling from Local Browns Fan about the ESPN crew...imagine if they had any idea what we had to put up with. Lordy, these guys are dumb. Mike P.S. I still HATE the Steelers...more than any other team. And that includes New Bruschi.

On 1st and 10, 2 minute warning - KNEEL!
buckeyemike replied to Fezmid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ah, good point regarding CV. I think they ran the ball with two minutes remaining because they lose, at most 30-35 seconds with each kneel down. Then it's fourth down with about 20 seconds left. Collective brain fart? Maybe. I'm simply saying that it ultimately didn't matter in the great and grand scheme, unless somebody gets suspended. Nobody got hurt, so all the better. Since Lindell missed twice (I only saw the second one), I will criticize him for that. However, a win is a win, and we sorely needed this one. So, I'm happy with the final score. Mike -
Well, now that the Bills have won, our thoughts here at the Buckeyemike World Headquarters turn to the best rivalry in college football, if not in all of sports. Can the Buckeyes win in Ann Arbor against a Michigan team that has had some problems this year (i.e. losing to Minnesota) but had a miracle finish earlier this season? Can A.J. Hawk continue his campaign for the Butkus Award with another excellent game? Can Troy Smith connect with Santonio for another couple of TD's? Can Teddy Jr. run one back? Historically, the Buckeyes need all they can get when playing Up North. The winner of this game needs Penn State to lose to claim a slice of the Big Ten title. The Buckeyes have had a solid year, and are 12 points away from being unbeaten. Remember our motto, class...it's 5:25 P.M. on Sunday November 13...and MICHIGAN STILL SUCKS!! GO BUCKS!! BEAT THE BLUE!! Mike

Why are we worried about this? KC didn't gain a single yard after the fumble. The Bills WON. It's all irrelevant. Mike -
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
buckeyemike replied to 30dive's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Uh, nobody here mentioned Harry Chapin. Although "Cats in the Cradle" WAS mentioned. I think Harry's the one who died of a massive heart attack while driving his car on the Jersey Turnpike, and got hit by a semi. Autopsy showed the heart attack, not the crash, killed him. Only thirty-eight years old. Mike -
3. Bring beer, too. We loves ya, Aussie. Mike
