Just to make sure everyone knows, I am not a flip-flopper, nor a fickle person. It was a question that had to be asked, pure and simple. The story is correct...I am here largely because the original Browns pulled up stakes. I would have been a fan of that team for life. At least, God forbid, I'm not a Steelers fan. But now, I think that I am at a crossroads as a fan. Do you take the hometown boys, who might have a better future? Or do you continue to dance with the one who brung you the past few years? Mike

Yes, and I know who both of those people are, too. Mike

Uh, Reuben Droughns? Mike

First off, I'm not T-Bone. I don't think I've p!$$ed off anyone on this board as much as he did. But, I thank you for your honest answers. And I will still be around here. Again, I don't think there's any reason why I can't root for both the Bills and Browns. Mike

Well, good luck with that. Tim Couch seems like a decent guy. He had the whole Browns team on his shoulders, and it was really an impossible situation. He got hurt a LOT. Mike

Hmmm...methinks that the Browns really couldn't care less. Mike

The Bills are obviously a team that is in disarray...it reminds me of what happened at least a couple of times with the Browns (under Belichick in the early 90s and under Butch Davis last year). I really don't want to go through that again. The Browns aren't very good right now either...but they have been competitive and playing hard for most of the year. I see little fire in the Buffalo Bills right now. At one point this season, I said that the Browns were slowly starting to win me back. I see no reason why I can't be a big fan of both teams, but the Browns look like they're starting to get their act together. The main problem of the Cleveland Browns right now is bad luck (Winslow, Braylon Edwards, poor drafting, etc.). I have also stated here that the Browns will probably win a Super Bowl sometime in the next decade. The Bills can do that, too, but it increasingly seems to me that this is an organization that is secretive when it has no reason to be. And one that is, for some inexplicable reason, increasingly alienating its fan base. Thank God Randy Lerner noticed the same thing was happening here in Cleveland...and he put a stop to it. A side note to OBD: you guys run a football team. And not a very good football team at that. It's not like you're guarding nuclear secrets or the formula for Coca-Cola. I saw the same dang thing with Butch Davis here. It doesn't work!!!!. Please note that this is not a good-bye note from me. I will still be around here. I enjoy this board, as I have for the past three years and nearly 3,000 posts. But, it may be time to support the hometown boys again. Moreso than the Bills. And it's possible that the Bills may come to Cleveland next year (they are scheduled in 2007). The Bills have not lost a fan...but I see no reason for this team to act like it's guarding the Pentagon. Especially when the players are simply collecting their paychecks right now. Mike

That year (1990), the Browns crashed and burned with a 3-13 record. Bud Carson was fired after the 42-0 loss to the Bills. The Browns' record at that point was 2-7. Schottenheimer "parted ways" with Art Modell and the Browns three days after losing a wildcard playoff game to the Houston Oilers in 1988. Counting the playoff loss, the Browns were 10-7 that year. You can consult me on matters of Cleveland Browns history. Mike

That was. God, what a horrid weekend. I had a close friend that was killed in Indiana the prior weekend and I was home for his wake. I was a senior in college at the time. I remember the playoff game...I was really gripping down the stretch -- in fact, I turned the TV off, so I never saw Matthews' interception. But I remember Ronnie Harmon dropping the ball. R.I.P, Bud. Mike

Thirdborn's son Gus celebrates his third birthday today. I heard from him last week. He says Gus is well, but they are having trouble finding age-appropriate toys for him to play with. So I thought I'd share some good news...prayer really does work. Mike

You have my condolences. Bryant is the Browns' version of Josh Reed, you're right about that. Shelton hasn't been too bad. Even though you're starting to hear more grumbling now, this has been a decent year for the Browns' offensive line. Right up until about two weeks ago. As for Braylon Edwards, torn ACL in the right knee. The bad luck with first round draft picks continues in C-Town. Mike

In other news, the rest of the bowl schedule is out. Memphis plays Akron in the Motor City Bowl. GO ZIPS!! Mike

I am sorry to hear about your grandfather. My prayers are with you and your family. Mike

Good...this is all cathartic. Some here are blaming the coaches and TD. I'm blaming the players. They are the ones who execute on the field. If they can't do the job, then find someone who can. Mike

Days like today are often blessings in disguise. If the needs show up on the field, they obviously have to be corrected. I would much rather this happen with a 4-7 team going nowhere than if we were this year's Bengals or Jaguars. Mike
-
That's OK. I forgot to post here that St. X won over Massillon, 24-17. Mike

We were deceiving ourselves if we thought this team was going anywhere this year. This is the type of game Ralph probably goes apoplectic (sp?) over. Yeah...if they won the division at 8-8 or 9-7, they would get rototilled in the first round by a hungry Steelers or Jaguars team, even at home. I think the next time the Bills have a 21-0 lead, I'll just stay home and won't find a place to watch the game. That's what happened today (I didn't get to the game until early in the second quarter, so I missed all three touchdowns). This is not a good team, folks, but I guess that's stating the obvious. But, these type of comebacks happen, and they seem to occur in football with increasing frequency. USC's comeback against Notre Dame was eerily similar to today's game, especially in the last two minutes. If you can't stop the other team who's 77 yards from paydirt with two minutes to go (and no timeouts for them), then you don't deserve to win. Period. Let the flaming begin. Mike

Willis will play well in his hometown today. Buffalo wins, 20-17. Mike

Man, you must be bored tonight. Mike

Me too. UB just needs to find the Reggie Witherspoon equivalent among football coaches. If Akron can win, I think it lends hope to UB in the future. Mike

What exactly was the purpose of all this anyway? Mike

Happy Birthday Nick in England

Which member of the Royal Family are you going to goose again? (and please don't say Camilla...) Happy Birthday to the best Englishman this side of Tony Blair. Mike -
What do you want for Christmas?
buckeyemike replied to stevestojan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ah...what every white boy along the lake wants. I could be a real smart @$$ and say "I want a hamburger... no, a cheeseburger. I want a hot dog. I want a milkshake..." and wait for someone else to say "You'll get nothing and like it!", but I won't do that. I list the following: Polaroid Portable DVD Player Sirius Satellite Radio with at least one gift card for service. First season of "Lost" on DVD. Jimmy Buffett's "Meet Me in Margaritaville" CD ...and USMCBillsFan to come home safely. Semper Fi. Mike -
