This board has become disgusting with the age
buckeyemike replied to Fan in San Diego's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. I'm nearly 45 years younger than Marv and he's probably in better shape than I am...and that's scary. Mike -
Shows you how much I hate both teams. My mistake...it was my belief that the winged black creatures were the Nazgul. That's what I meant. Mike

Crazy Pat Robertson speaks again
buckeyemike replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
An Open Letter to and about Pat Robertson: I'm a devout Christian. That said, Pat Robertson should shut up. No one seems to hold him accountable for what comes out of his mouth. As he gets older, what he says seems to be getting more bizarre. Look Pat, not all of us are nearly billionaires like yourself. None of us own diamond mines or are the sons of U.S. Senators. I support freedom of speech, which also gives me the freedom not to listen to your political tirades. No one makes me watch The 700 Club. You were a Democrat until 1984, which should surprise everyone on this board. And I know your training is in tax law, which means you're no dummy. But considering my knowledge of tax law, you pretty much have to have a screw or two loose to understand it. You've done a lot of good in the world, especially Operation Blessing, which is one of the best-run and most-renowned charities. At least you raised some of your money through other business ventures and not from the sacrifices of little old ladies, like many TV evangelists. (A side note: For an expose on some of them, most notably Toronto's own Benny Hinn, see this website from the watchdog group The Trinity Foundation.) However, because you suffer from chronic foot-in-mouth disease, I must now discredit much of what you say regarding politics, which I increasingly believe have little to do with the Word of God. I know one thing: I won't miss you from my TV set. Mike -
I love LOTR as much as anyone on this board, but you guys have waaaaay too much free time on your hands. That said: The Steelers should be the Black Riders The Patriots should be the Nazgul. Jim Kelly is Aragorn (reluctant to be in Buffalo at first, but became King). Takeo Spikes is Legolas. London Fletcher is Gimli (because he's short for a linebacker). I haven't figured out Gollum yet, but remember he wants a ring verrrrry badly, so I guess it could be anyone in the Bills front office. Mike

I agree with this assessment. Marv will be an asset to the Bills...overall, this may be the best thing that could have happened. Mike

I read the article...the author makes several points, good and bad. The best point is Wilson striking gold with Marv Levy. Remember, Levy was up in Canada, with the USFL having washed out. But, it turned out he was the perfect hire for the team. The bad is that Wilson is "penny-pinching". No, he isn't. He spent millions on getting Lawyer Milloy here, thinking he would be the final piece of the defensive puzzle (which he wasn't). He has made some decisions, like forcing Ahmad Rashad to leave over what in today's player salaries is a pittance, that I'm sure he regrets. The money that Ralph Wilson has spent has been wise in some areas, foolhardy in others. Also, the writer criticizes MM, with a 14-18 record, as a complete failure. I say, give the guy one more year. If he doesn't go at least 9-7, then you can fire his @$$. Two years is not enough time to determine head coaching ability. Greggo got three, so that's the least we can ask. The writer of the article goes back nearly 40 years, to John Rauch. Rauch was a complete failure in Buffalo (just ask Paul Maguire ). He apparently couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag...why use OJ as a decoy??? Bottom line: the article smacks of envy, even with its good points...Wilson's rich, why doesn't he spend more money on the team, yadda yadda yadda. Same old song and dance. Mike

DAMN - It's hard nto to be excited
buckeyemike replied to nick in* england's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree Nick...this is big news throughout the NFL right now. I am willing to be patient...but I think Marv will bring the right attitude, and ultimately, the right people, back into place. Mike -
Probably a security guard, or the head of security. Let WGR or the Buffalo News try to interview THEM right now. "I was just following orders"... So were the underlings indicted at Enron. Mike

Ha ha...nice twist. A regime that was hostile to the fans who wanted to carry signs criticizing that regime is gone. That's the libertarian in me...I understand it was their playground, but you don't leave your free speech rights at the door. Mike

Jerry Sullivan/Schopp & The Dope
buckeyemike replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's what sells papers and gets people to listen. If things were good, nobody would be listening to their criticisms. Most sportswriters/reporters would be failures at a LOT of other professions. Mike -
A regime that was hostile to the fans is gone. Ding dong, the witch is dead. I like the idea of having Marv Levy as the General Manager...although the upcoming Letterman naptime/bingo/old folks home jokes will undoubtedly wear thin quickly (and Marv's probably in better health than Dave anyway). Marv is the best coach this team ever had. Personally, he's my all-time favorite football coach. And I can see where Mr. Wilson is coming from. This is his team, after all. Ralph wants one last shot at a Lombardi Trophy, so why not hire the man who's been there, albeit as a coach? They've been friends going on 20 years, so we know they can work together. I say, wait and see. If the Sunshine Boys can turn this team around, good times will be had by all. After the debacle that was TD, we as the fans have nothing to lose. Mike

Congratulations! Now you know how I felt when Ohio State won the national title three years ago. BTW, when do we start trash-talking for the September 9 game in Austin?

What's wrong with strip malls and Waffle Houses? I wish we had Waffle Houses closer to Cleveland...mmmm...Waffle Houses. Mike

Wilson apologizes to fans for product
buckeyemike replied to Corp000085's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have to leave now and borrow Ralph's Prozac so I can get that image out of my head. Mike -
I've said it before, I'll say it again. USC is at least 4 touchdowns better than Texas. Trojans, 56-28. Mike

I once caught a fish thiiiiis biiiig. Mike

OK, as probably the biggest Tressel fan on this board, let me chime in: Do I want Jim Tressel to leave Ohio State and coach in Buffalo? NO. NO. NO. Simple as that. Mike

Shut up. Mike

I'm calling the Fox Network tomorrow. Mike
