In the last two to three years they've gotten much better about addressing the O-line, I was referring to the playoff drought in general. I'd like to see them continue to look for pass rushers. Outside of Hughes, a 34 year old vet, and maybe Shaq, they're awful thin on pass rushers. We'll see about Ryan Davis.

That is one variable and IMO, certainly not close to the root of the roster mismanagement. I think not focusing on the lines has been a bigger issue over the years, outside of course finding a franchise QB. Only elite QB's can mask a poor O-line and even then they can only do so much.

You can't really have it both ways. More players = fewer picks in regards to compensatory picks. I think it's easier for good teams to play this game because they have fewer holes to fill. Teams like the Bills might value a guy that has proven he belongs in the league (albeit not a star, but a OK rotational guy) over the potential of a draft pick. You can still pick up some guys later after the draft or whatever the cut off day is for the comp pick formula, so I can see the criticism of picking up the lower end FA's when you might be sacrificing a draft pick. With a new coaching staff, I might lean towards picking up the free agents because these are guys with more film who will probably be able to help right away.

Bills are matching offer for Groy
elroy16 replied to HumbleAndHungry's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Who's out there you can sign that would be an upgrade? He broke his leg early in his career and got hurt last year, outside of that hes been very dependable. Far from tons of injuries. Cutting solid starters is a fantastic idea when you don't have to. Edit Sorry, read your post again and realized you were criticizing those who want to cut him, not those who don't. -
Bills are matching offer for Groy

I didn't think they'd match the offer, figured they would go with ducasse, Lewis, and maybe a draft pick as interior backups. I'm glad they matched it and was wrong about the tender, I thought it would be better served to put the 2nd round tender on him. I'm curious to see how it works out with gillislee. -

Gillislee will get multiple offers

You know he's a good RB. You don't know how a 5th round RB is going to turn out. Would you have trade any of the following for TD Mike? Edit. Half my post got cropped for some reason. Oh well, look at the history of RB picks from the Bills, they are not good. I've never believed in the RB's are a dime a dozen cliche. For a proven, solid RB, $2.7 isn't a big hit. -
Kyle Williams will return for 2017
elroy16 replied to PirateHookerMD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hopefully we'll find out what Dareus is made of this year with Waufle as the D-line coach, assuming no suspensions and he's healthy. John or Donald asked Kyle about Waufle's reputation as a tough coach and Kyle basically said, he's good with that because the coach is trying to make you the best player you can be. He also said if don't like that kind of coach, then you should look in the mirror. The interview was a good listen. Kyle talked about the discussions he's had with McDermott and said he liked what he heard from the coach. He said McDermott talked about the process of getting better every day and how you have to make sure you stay on top of players and make sure you talk to them about the team and the process everyday. Kyle made it pretty clear that the motivation for new players isn't always as high as it should be or used to be for players. -
Saint Doug Cops to his Sins ("Obviously")
elroy16 replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Same. https://twitter.com/TyDunne/status/836971458815459328 I'm still not a huge fan of him as a coach, but I respect people a lot more when they admit mistakes like that. One thing I found interesting listening to his press conference today is when he was talking about Nate Hackett and how he was the OC for a short period while Marrone was still the OLine coach. Nate started calling Marrone "Doug" instead of "Coach Marrone." Marrone said, "what is this, a power trip. We got him back to calling me Coach Marrone, so that was the first step, so that went well." As someone who's never really cared how people address me, I found myself rolling my eyes a bit while he was going through that. I'm sure some will side with Coach Marrone on that one, I just found it unnecessary. -

Shady McCoy on NFLN "Good Morning Football"

Yup. Unfortunately, everyone is not like Kyle Williams. -

He also talked about the talent level in Buffalo was better than he anticipated and how he thought, top to bottom, it was better than Philly. That was unsolicited by the way. He said people doubting him last year gave him extra motivation to work hard last off-season. I like Shady interviews, he's a straight shooter. -
Bills Hire Sean McDermott as New Head Coach
elroy16 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know some people wanted a "football czar" and potentially Polian in that position. Sounds like McDermott might have been the coach if that had happened. http://buffalonews.com/2017/01/27/polian-couldnt-happier-bills-choice-mcdermott/ Pretty good article that goes into a little bit of detail about personnel development committee. -
Sorry, but I don't agree with that statement. I think Gilmore will continue to be a top 10 CB while Byrd hasn't done much since leaving the Bills. If Gilmore was looking for top 10 money, around $10 million a year, I could maybe see them bringing him back. I believe he's looking for top 5 money which is probably $14+ million a year, so I don't expect him back, especially considering the scheme they appear to be transitioning to. If Rex was still around or they were going to run a mostly man scheme scheme, I imagine they'd put a higher premium on Gilmore since he's a strong man cover CB. With McDermott's zone heavy scheme, I just don't see the value in a $14 million dollar corner.

This system sounds perfect for Kyle. When he can time the snap count and shoot through gaps, he's an elite DT. I really, really hope he sticks it out for another year or two. I couldn't blame him if he moved on, but I'd like to think he'll stick around.

Jags hire Tom Coughlin as executive

https://twitter.com/alexmarvez/status/819569439536455680 There's no way this ends with Marrone and Coughlin holding a super bowl trophy. -
Have folks already given up on Cardale?
elroy16 replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That would be the ideal scenario, but I'm going off the assumption that Tyrod won't restructure. Even if he doesn't renegotiate, his cap hit really isn't bad at all for a starting QB. The real issue is the dead money if he's cut. -

elroy16 replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, that's kind of how I see it. I think they should to pick up Tyrod's option and let Cardale keep learning on the bench. You'll probably end up eating up some of your cap with dead money on TT's deal towards the end, but right now with no other real QB options, letting TT go would be a mistake. -

What I find interesting about Cardale is he's kind of the opposite of Tyrod and EJ when it comes to his decision making. I think it would be easiest to explain this by referring to Lynn's comment on Cardale, "He’s never seen a receiver not open." http://www.buffalobills.com/news/article-1/Bills-Today-Receivers-syncing-up-with-EJ/175d0a14-1c05-4add-8fa5-6aab7ee1ebdb We saw some of that last game which led to a bunch of tipped passes by the defense. The real question is, is it easier to teach him to be more patient and find someone he can actually make a throw to or is it easier to teach Tyrod to throw to a guy that might look covered? My guess is it's easier to tone it down, but I don't know. I really like the potential of Cardale. He moves in the pocket well and isn't afraid to make throws. It'll be fun watching him next pre-season (ugh).
