Shaq Attack - Sharks Never Sleep
elroy16 replied to ChanOverChin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Do you know how many players in the entire NFL had more than 10 sacks last year? 16. 10+ sacks doesn't make or break a player. I'm also interested in pressures, disrupting the run, doing his job, etc. Sure, bump this in the offseason after he has 9 sacks and claim he's a bust, it'll make for a good laugh. No, it doesn't. #BADOL said he wasn't drafted to stop the run. I brought up a stat that shows he was clearly very good against the run in college, therefore, he was drafted to help stop the run. -

You don't think Shaq is going to be any good, that's fine, but your arguments are pretty meh. You were the one that brought up 300 lbs DEs, so your first line makes no sense. There are plenty of DE's that are in the 275 range that are good against the run. Teams still run the ball, so of course they drafted Shaq to play against the run. Remember that tackles for loss in college stat I brought up? He did that because he's very good against the run. I honestly don't care about last year. He said he was playing in a defense that he was very unaccustomed to so he simplified his game so that he could do his job. Missing all of training camp and part of the year hurt his development and him getting comfortable in the defense as well. I had hyped myself up into him coming in fresh and making a big impact. It didn't happen and it's pretty clear why. He's back in a defense he knows, at a better weight, and healthy. -

Please list all of these 300 pound 43 DEs. Mario was 300 and was the exception. Jerry is strong against the run at under 260. Michael Bennet is great against the run at 275. Shaq led all fbs players in tackles for loss his junior year, he's doing more than just setting the edge. -
Rivers/Gates not allowed to attend LT's HOF induction

Feels like a Marrone, "I'm the boss" type move. Gates said he might go, even if he receives a fine. Seems unnecessary from Lynn. -

Shaq Attack - Sharks Never Sleep

I didn't see it yet in this thread, but Shaq also said he's dropped some weight. http://buffalonews.com/2017/07/29/slimmed-shaq-lawson-wreaking-havoc-early-training-camp-bills/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter Sure, he might not have looked great last year. I'm sure playing in a defense where he was thinking and not being in the best shape since he wasn't able to fully train had something to do with it. Looking forward to seeing what he can do, he appears very motivated and on the right track. Edit: Oops, missed the other thread talking about the weight loss. Oh well. -
Stats that define the "Build a bully" era
elroy16 replied to Cripple Creek's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He had me hook line and sinker as well. The atrocious run D killed me with Rex. Quite the bully giving up 133 yards a game on the ground and that was in year two. The D got worse the longer he was here, what a joke. -
Good stuff from Beane and McDermott. http://www.wgr550.com/articles/news/inside-look-different-ways-nfl-teams-conduct-hc-and-gm-interviews There's a lot more there, definitely worth the click. I've definitely seen people mock the Bills for not being thorough with their searches. It sounds like the Pegula's do a good job in the interviews.

My favorite part was when Waufle said to Dareus, "See how many times you can get in the backfield. There ain't going to be nobody that can block you. ... Get in the backfield and disrupt, that's what all the great ones have done." No more Dareus at NT tying up blockers. I know he can do that incredibly well, but it's a waste of talent.

What's interesting about this is Seymour said this scheme is more difficult that Rex's. He said in Rex's, the CB's played man basically all the time, so it was very easy. Now he needs to know all of the different zone coverages as well. To your point, I think the front 7's job is much easier, while the back end might be a little more difficult. Either way, as a whole, it sounds like it will be easier and they're emphasizing playing fast and instinctual, which is good to hear.

Inside Brandon Beane's unlikely rise to Bills GM
elroy16 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can't believe there's not a "show me the baby" comment yet. Anyway, this was a great read and good insight into the new GM. Beane and McDermott seem like extremely focused individuals. I'm excited to see what they do here. -
In an interview on WGR, Beane talked about how he and McDermott have already been watching games and going through scenarios to prepare for things like when to take a timeout, when to challenge, when to spike, went to punt, etc. Clearly McDermott and Beane may not work out, but I don't get the impression that it will be because they are unprepared. McDermott has talked about when he talks to other coaches, he takes notes and tries to learn as much as possible from everyone he talks to. So far I like his approach. He seems to be on the strict side, but it's easier to start there and loosen up the reigns when guys prove they don't need to be babysat versus the opposite.

Gil Brandt's Top NFL RBs and QBs of All Time

He's obviously really good, but top 5 ever? I don't know about that. -
RD 2, Pick 37: Zay Jones (WR) - ECU
elroy16 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like that they're pushing the rookies. McDermott talked about how they're moving Zay inside and outside and he's doing a good job with it. I wonder if part of it is having a former coach here in Buffalo who knows Zay and encouraged McDermott to push him. Obviously it's very early so I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, but all three of the rookies sound like they're fitting in right away. I've read good things about Shaq as well. -
6-8: Dareus Will be on NFL Network at 7:15 PM ET
elroy16 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That was 2014. He pulled a hammy after missing a month of practice/games because of the suspension, but I don't remember hearing or reading anything about him coming back out of shape. If I remember correctly, he hurt it while trying to chase EJ around in practice. If you can point to an article or anything saying Dareus was out of shape after the suspension, I will eat crow, but I'm quite certain that there was no confirmation from coaches, players, or the FO. -

elroy16 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's a joint or two away from being found dead in a river? His mom died, but yeah, he was just using that as an excuse to be lazy. What the hell is wrong with you? Not having faith in Dareus is completely understandable, but you've gone a little overboard. -
Are we undervaluing Shady's potential impact?
elroy16 replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To the, "It's a passing league" crowd, I invite you to read this article. https://theringer.com/nfl-offensive-strategy-going-big-a8e0ae117091 Two teams they mention running 22 and 21 personnel a lot, the Pats and Falcons. The DiMarco signing was mocked by some, but it could be a great signing. Unlike Felton, DiMarco is a more complete blocker and can catch some passes out of the backfield. Felton was good at blowing people up in the hole, but I think DiMarco will be better for the outside zone runs and is no slouch blocking for inside zones and power runs. One interesting thing about the Shady article is he says that the run and pass plays look the same and the defense won't know what's coming. I saw another article at some point that looked into the Atlanta offense. They would line up DiMarco in the slot and motion him inside. This would give Ryan a read on the defense and give him a good idea if they were in man or zone. Hopefully we see DiMarco used similarly and help out Tyrod with his reads. That was a little off topic, but yeah, if Shady can stay healthy, he could be in for a huge year. -
Rumor- Bills will entertain trade offers for Watkins?
elroy16 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry man, it's all you. This guy below understood his comment in milliseconds! Incredible! Sorry, the milliseconds comment made me laugh out loud and I had to poke fun. Also, the trade hasn't been a disaster. It hasn't worked out, but it hasn't been a disaster. The Washington trade for RG3 was a disaster. -

I couldn't agree more with this.

Nice find. I wonder what he can do against the pass though, I think that's where the LB corp is lacking.

Bills Hire Malik Boyd as Director of Pro Personnel
elroy16 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think we're seeing the benefits of the Pegulas. In every interview with Beane he brings up the Pegula's passion for Buffalo and also the resources they provide. He said the facilities are already top notch and after talking with Sean, they've already invested and provided McDermott with whatever he's needed. -
Welcome Brian Gaine as VP of Player Personnel!
elroy16 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To be honest, it made sense to me. When they hired Rex, they were very green as owners of the Bills. They already had what appeared to be an up and coming young GM. Hiring a HC with no experience would mean the owner, GM, and HC were all pretty green at their respective positions. Rex was supposed to be someone who had experience, knew how to win, knew how to beat the Patriots, and as a player's coach, could get the best out of his team. In retrospect, none of that was really true, but on paper, it made sense to me. Listening to the interviews of Beane, I'm very excited not only about this FO, but of the Pegulas. Beane is very high on the Peguals and their vision as well as the facilities they've put together. He mentioned the draft room, the work out areas, the cafeteria, and the indoor practice facilities when talking with John Murphy and Donald Jones. Beane said he was basically guaranteed to be the next GM of the Panthers and when he investigated this opportunity, he said it was better than he imagined. Murph asked him in what way it was better than he imagined, Beane emphatically said, "The Pegulas." I highly recommend giving this interview a listen. The part about the Pegulas is in the first few minutes of the interview. http://www.buffalobills.com/video/audio/Brandon_Beane_Earn_the_right/960c69c8-0fc3-413e-aebc-a9460a7689af It goes without saying, but this could very well not pan out, we might be reacting to a new GM hire in four years. That said, I'm very optimistic about this staff and more importantly, the Pegulas. They stumbled a little bit at first, but appear to on the right track and certainly are giving their staff everything they want or need to succeed. Sorry, back to the original topic, Gaine sounds like a very good hire as well.
