I'm Surprised by Zay Jones' Slow Start
elroy16 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The targets to catch stat isn't helpful. What's he supposed to do when five of his targets aren't catchable? The first pass of the game would have been a tough catch, the defender was right on him. If your going to criticize him on that play, criticize the route. The one he bobbled was a clear drop. The deep throw into the end zone, he needs to do better at selling the out route, the LB never fell for that. He still might have had it had he not been tripped up. Obviously he needs to do better, but you can't just look at 2 catches on 9 targets and make a conclusion about his performance. -
Vlad Ducasse vs John Miller
elroy16 replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Miller is inactive because if he's active and Groy isn't, there's no backup center. Groy plays G if someone goes down during the game, just like he did yesterday. He's active because he has more versatility than Miller -
Tyrod did a good job of running when there was space and more importantly, moving around in the pocket and then finding receivers. The throw to Thompson on the last TD drive was probably the best, but he also had a big conversion on the throw to O'Leary on a 3rd and long. He seems to be getting more and more comfortable in the pocket, both making throws and not bailing out at the first sign of pressure. I think they need to find a replacement for Preston Brown. He's just not good enough in coverage. Humber looked good until he got hurt and so far Milano looks good. Lots of good signs from this team. Like you said, most certainly imperfect, but it was great to get a tight win when it feels like these almost always go the other way.

Prepare to see some heavy formations on offense this week
elroy16 replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They cut back on 3 step drop throws more and more as it became evident Tyrod wasn't running those effectively. I'm 90% sure I saw the numbers that showed they started running power concepts already more frequently in the run game. A lot of the play action calls show zone runs, so they have to run outside zone occasionally to keep teams honest. Maybe they'll change those up a little bit and run even less outside zone. So the staff is already making small adjustments. With the bye week I don't expect them to drastically change what they do, but I'm very interested in seeing what they do. -
I'm Surprised by Zay Jones' Slow Start
elroy16 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As I've said, like five times, he should have caught all of the drops he's had. I'm not disagreeing with that. So no, they were not too hard for him to catch. These are easy catches that were dropped. I don't think what I'm saying is that hard to follow here. When I say easy I mean open, without the threat of getting hit, and the ball is delivered on target. Yes, he should have caught them. No, they were not easy catches like the gifs above. No, I am not going to start calling him a bust or worry that he has the yips. It's been five games ffs. -

Another ball that you would like caught, but I wouldn't call it easy. We're basically arguing semantics at this point. My point is I'm not going to be too concerned about a promising rookie, 5 games into his career, because of these drops. -

Here's a link to Zay's drop against the falcons. https://twitter.com/Allen_Strk/status/915752356859523072 It's a pass you really want him to catch, but you can't persuade me into thinking this is an easy catch. -

elroy16 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The quick screen was near the end zone, at his knees, right? That is the worst of his drops, imo. Was the deep pass against the Falcons the one where he kinda dove? He should have had that as well, but I think half dive screwed him up a bit. I still don't know if I'd call that an easy, routine catch, but I can see your side of it. Like Buffalo716 said, he's coming from the AAC. Yes he played against some big schools, but the NFL has to be a big jump for him. I'm not going to get down on him yet. Another one. I mentioned that one already. A quick pass, high and wide. A catchable ball, but not easy. -

Which ones? The article mention four, I gave four, granted one or two of those may not be what they were mentioning. I can go back and rewatch the games if you tell me what game and about when you think it happened. I honestly don't remember a single pass, that hit him in stride, that he's dropped. For example. -

I'm not too worried about the drops yet. I know, I know, I know, "easy" catches are rare in the NFL, but so far I don't think he's dropped any easy passes. The article mentions four drops, I'm guessing the one in the end zone that Holmes caught for a TD, the WR screen at his knees near the end zone, the long pass down the right sideline, and maybe the Carolina pass? Honestly, only the WR screen was a bad drop IMO and that was at his knees. The long pass down the sideline was a weird semi-dive that I think he tried because he might have got hammered by the safety. The endzone drop was a quick pass that was high and away. The Carolina drop was a very tough catch. I've seen at least a handful of what I would call very bad drops on very easy catches by other receivers. Go read about Amari Cooper, he's having serious issue with dropping passes. Now hopefully Zay doesn't approach that level of bad hands and level of drops, but so far I don't think it's close to that big of an issue. One thing I found kind of interesting was this statement about the bye, “I think everyone needed the bye week,” Jones said. “Feels good to just get away and just enjoy friends, family, loved ones. For guys who are rehabbing, they’re rehabbing, so it’s just good to take a step back, but it’s great to see everybody’s face, everyone’s smiling. I think everyone’s really happy and we have a great game plan in and I’m really excited for it.” This feels like an early bye for us, but for them they've been at it for almost three and a half months. Hopefully he comes back, gets some "easy" catches, has the game slow down a tad for him, and he gets going. He's been open including a number of times when Tyrod hasn't gone his way. He just needs to get some confidence back and earn Tyrod's trust and I'm confident he'll get going. -
Ralph Wilson would have been 99 today
elroy16 replied to section122's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hate the, "he got lucky in the 90's" crap. Hasn't kraft been the luckiest sports owner ever? Hiring a retread HC and drafting a guy in the 6th round who turn out to be the possibly the best HC/QB combo ever? That's pretty damn lucky if I've ever seen it. The best basketball player ever was drafted 3rd overall. There's always luck involved in sports. Anyway, Happy Birthday to Ralph. God knows I cursed his name at times, but he kept the Bills in Buffalo when he easily could have made a boat load of money selling or moving the team. His parting gift of $300 million to Buffalo from the sale of the Bills was an A+++ classy move. Ralph and Mary Wilson should always be remembered in Buffalo in a positive light for that alone. -
I thought that could have easily been called a fumble, 2 steps plus a turn up field, and the call was a fumble. Eh, the only thing I know is I don't know what a catch is.

Watkins admits he was selfish, upset after wins.
elroy16 replied to JM2009's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is probably what Hogan was talking about when he signed with NE. Oh well, the trade makes more sense now. I'm curious to see what happens if they start losing and he doesn't see more targets. -
Is today "Nick Folk Day" in New England?
elroy16 replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Awful performance from the bucs. I try not to be too hard on Zay and his drops, it seems to plague a lot of the league. Anyone see Cooks' drop in the first quarter? Wide open, right in his chest and it went right through his hands. The bucs TE dropped a very catchable TD late in the game, I believe it led to folk's missed 31 yarder. Like Peterman said, teams seem to implode against the NE, it's so damn annoying. -
They looked solid out there last night, one bad turnover by O'Reilly (he's too good to be doing that crap, that TO pissed me off) and a iffy goal by the Canadians. That should have been an regulation win for Buffalo. It's annoying how bad they are at shootouts, Lehner is just terrible in them. I wish Eichel would look for his shot more. He had a very nice assist to Pommer's but there was a time or two he was in the slot where he should have ripped it. It was only game one, but felt too much like last year. Out play the other team, but can't finish. Better than the tank years at least.

I'm Surprised by Zay Jones' Slow Start
elroy16 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is a big reason why I'm not overly concerned yet. Most of his drops have been at least moderately difficult. Outside of maybe the Panther's drop, they are all passes he should have caught, but it's not like he's dropping passes that are right in his chest. Now I know that most of the passes he's going to catch in his career aren't going to be easy catches. I just think that four games into his career, we shouldn't be getting too down on him. He's getting open which seems to be the hard part for most rookies. Hopefully the game will slow down a hair for him and he'll start making these catches. -
Same here, it was amazing. Their crowd was pretty weak. Even when the Bills were on third down it didn't get very loud, well except for the Samuel L. Jackson video blasting. Their fans, pretty meh. Maybe my favorite part of the day was after the game, there were a bunch of Bills fans near the tunnel the Bills players were leaving the field through. Watching the Bills players getting pumped up while Bills fans were going nuts was amazing. Also leaving the game and hearing the Shout song and general yelling and cheering the entire time was great.

I believe Warrick Dunn played a part in that. Dunn has helped a bunch of families out with new homes, he is an amazing person. -
They started to do that against the Broncos. They ran more shotgun, play action, and 7 step drops and they ran zero 3 step drops. I'm curious to see if they run a little more power run plays versus almost all zone. This line doesn't seem to be very good at running zone run plays consistently. Jordan Matthews on Sirius Opening Drive 9/15
elroy16 replied to stevewin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Matthews is one of I believe five receivers in nfl history to have 60+ and 800+ yards in his first three years. He might not be a prototypical #1, but I don't think it's accurate to say he's average. Edit http://sports.usatoday.com/2017/08/11/six-things-to-know-about-new-bills-receiver-jordan-matthews/ Not bad company for an average receiver. -
https://twitter.com/YardsPerPass/status/908003947646001152 I agree with your last statement. I wish he'd get more snaps where he can just fly off the ball and go 100% at the QB. It sounds like his responsibilities don't really call for that yet. At the same time, I saw Kyle blow up some gaps on early downs, so I don't know.

I was watching on my Roku to start and then no more than four minutes before kickoff it threw up an error so I had to quit out of the app. When I tried to open it back up, it said the servers had reached the user limit. I then used the PS4 app and like you said, it was the best I've seen over the past four years or so. I even did picture in picture with three other games and it was running flawlessly. Mine is $200 for just the Go package, no Redzone. The site is showing packages starting at 280, so not sure if my price was grandfathered in or what. https://nflst.directv.com/?DPSLogout=true&_requestid=332460
