  1. One thing Cover 1 mentioned was that there appears to be fewer option routes and it's more scheming guys open and going through reads to find the open guy. The best example was probably Shakir's TD, Allen's first two reads are to the right and then Shakir flashed to the middle of the field into Allen's field of view.

It obviously helps that guys are getting open and Allen is dropping dimes all over the place, but I thought it was an interesting shift. I imagine it allows the receivers to run their routes faster because they aren't trying to digest what the defense is doing all the time and it probably allows Allen to go though his reads a little easier/quicker because he's not trying to read the defense and the body language of his receivers.

  2. Elam reminds me of Gilmore where he looks a bit out of control half the time.

That Benford article is crazy. I'm always in awe over these guys that get out of situations like that. I know my dumbass would have been on the corner chasing quick cash and not working my ass off to get out.

This secondary is so fun. Ingram and Lewis thriving off the bench, Benford and Douglas shutting down the outside, and Hamlin and Rapp steady in the backend.

Sal C talked at length about guys like Lewis, Ingram, and Hamlin being in the system so long, thanks in part such great coaching stability, and thriving because they don't have to think out there. They know exactly what to do and it allows them to mix up and disguise coverages so well. Cover 1's film breakdown showed the backend running basic cover 2 or 3, but the way they rotated post snap it creates confusion and allows them to lock down the backend.

I'm loving the direction of this team. Props to McDermott and Beane for turning the page and truly doing a good job of making decisions to win now and in the future.

Is landing on top of the QB even a penalty anymore?  I’ve seen it happen the last couple seasons with no call.

Driving the QB into the ground definitely is. Maybe they've calmed down on just landing on them when you can't really help yourself, but I liked how he clearly rolled away from Tua to make sure there was no doubt there was no penalty.

  4. A very little thing I saw (not sure if it was mentioned) was on the pick 6, AJ hit Tua and could have easily driven him into the ground but made sure to roll off and not even land on him to avoid any possible roughing the passer call.

It was a bang bang play and he avoided making a huge mistake that happens all so often with the quick whistles these days.

    Tuesday morning reflections:

    5. And that Jets offense... it's like a set of baubels looking for a Christmas tree. Rodgers had some real nice throws. Wilson had that one drive where he was unguardable, and Hall (while poor tonight) will have some moments over the course of the season. But there is no structure. There is no method. It is like someone has constructed the gameplan by ripping pages out of the gameplans of all 31 other teams then jumbling them together. They will need to find some semblence of an identity to have success and not just rely on "give Rodgers time and he can make every throw."

This sounds a lot like the last few years around here.

Surprised by the low snap count for Shakir, and really surprised by the even lower snap count for Samuel.

The low snap count and targets for Shakir is criminal. He needs to ball at least 5 touches a game, that is the bare minimum. He's always making plays.

I love the snap count for Coleman. He looks like an NFL receive out there, sure maybe not some crazy burner, but there's nothing I see that makes me think he's slow.

I'd like Davis to take Johnson's carries, he looked quick, decisive, and powerful out there

It's going to be fun watching different guys make plays and the offense develop throughout the year.

  7. Not to be that guy, but this is the picture that says everything about Josh Allen. Two guys on the ground, a flag on the ground from Josh throwing a defender by the facemask, one defender looking in disbelief, stiff arming the best defensive player in the league, all with a huge grin on his face.

The dude as a mother ***** animal and I ***** love him.

Ravens fans have to be discouraged.   The team is exactly the same every year, disorganized, lots of stupid penalties, undisciplined and relying solely on Lamar to scramble on broken plays.

Chris Jones is all world, and their answer was to put a RB or TE on him half the time.  It’s head scratching.   On those times when they doubled him they didn’t have good enough technique to even slow the guy down.

Zay Flowers in the end zone at the end of the game was wide open but kept running his route instead of sitting down in the open spot.  Cost them the game.  His inexperience showed there.

Lamar did a good job of baiting him deep and then moving up in the pocket. I couldn't believe the Chiefs didn't bring a delayed blitz of some kind to blow up that running lane.

Not to mention the Chiefs letting Likely pick up 8-12 yards three different times on that last drive.

I wasn't super impressed by either team last night.

Did you grow up a Mennonite?

Whoa, leave Mennonites out of this. I grew up going to a Mennonite church every Sunday and my mom would watch Seinfeld and The Simpsons with my brother and I (much to my dad's dismay).

Space Balls and Men in Tights are hilarious.

    Now the Amish...

I love this kid.  Losing Milano is excruciating but Bernard’s existence give me hope.  Glad I was so wrong about this pick.

Thinking about what Milano and Bernard would have been like makes me irrationally angry. My only solace is that maybe Milano will come back at the end of the year. At least with the arm injury, he can keep his legs in shape for the most part.

His injury history was known when drafted. He needs to stay healthy.  I fear that the centerpiece of the D will not be available when he is needed the most. Again.

He only missed one game last year, albeit the most important. The injury was kinda fluky, they're going to happen. I have no doubt he's worked tirelessly at strengthening and building up his body to avoid injury.

Great video about Bernard's background and work ethic. His work ethic is second to few and his relationship with his grandparents is something special.

I loved his answer when a kid asked if he ever doesn't feel like putting in the work, he said he doesn't most days.

If he played versus the Chiefs, Bills win. I'm so pumped for this D, I don't care how doom and gloomy people are about the safety position.

  12. I'm pretty sure this video was posted already, but I just wanted to highlight the last play they go over.

It's a quick bubble screen and he does a great job of seeing the defenders while making a tough catch and then darting up field. He kind of reminds me of Shakir in that he seems to be aware of what's going on all around him and has that quick processing ability.

Screens have been pretty blah over the years with this team, hopefully his short area quickness, large target, good hands, and blocking can all help when they throw screens to him or whomever.

I like the Tee Higgins comparison. I remember a game where he bodied and defender at the goal line, caught it at like the 1 and then got in for a TD. We've had guys with size, but very little "grown man" plays like that.

  13. I really enjoyed this interview. I was impressed with how easy he went over plays and remembered everything about it. I loved when he talked about his second TD against LSU and how it was a play he wanted the coaches to run. "There was an option to run into the middle of the field, I'm not worried about any of that. Straight fade, let's go up and get it." We need Allen to get comfortable with Keon and learn to trust him and let Keon make plays while covered.

The weather has turned this game into a literal coin flip.

Incredible that we are still dealing with this in 2024, and Pegula has committed to relying on mother nature for the rest of his ownership with not footing the bill for a roof on new stadium.

Bills should have got a dome 20 years ago.

I'm curious to see if the design of the new stadium does in fact keep the wind down inside of the stadium. Cold and some precipitation is one thing, but the insane wind is what really mucks up these games.

  15. Nothing to add except Ed is awesome.

80% snap share vs the fins. Wild. Is this sustainable for him? We’ll see. Keep it up big Ed!

I think this is the benefit of such a heavy rotation throughout the year. He should still have plenty of juice.

Speaking of bad uniforms, the Jets are going to look like pickles running around out there tonight. Dallas at home is wearing their blue jersey vs the Lions. Which is odd for them.

It's a passing league and we used to defend the pass extremely well with a fantastic secondary that included 3 studs: Poyer, Hyde, and White.

We have no studs left.  Our secondary isn't elite anymore.  And if we're dreaming about a Lombardi, that's a problem.

Taron is a stud and I won't stand by while he is slandered.

  18. The move to blue jersey and white pants is the most important change to the team this year, besides McD taking over as DC.

Obviously a hyperbole, but I love the change. This combo is soooooo much better looking than the all blue. Sure, do all blues maybe once a year, but these need to be the primary home combination.

I also like how the players are changing up their socks a bit. In years past they would be just about all blue or all white. If you see Flyod he's got half white and half blue, Milano does more while at the bottom. I wish they'd bring back some stripes too. Letting them change up the socks a bit allows them to look different, but also all look good as a team. I absolutely hate how in the NBA they have neon shoes that are a complete opposite color of their uniforms, it looks like *****.

Yes, I am aware I pay too much attention to the uniforms, I don't know what to tell you.
