If you live in the market of a different NFL team...

I don't recall, but we've won most of the games. Miller always played well out here. -

I look at more like, I'm the reason they won before 1999, not the reason they've lost since then. yep, I've gone to all the Bills games here since I moved. Sabres games too. -

Moved to Phoenix in 1999, just in time to see the homerun throwback, Bills haven't sniffed the playoffs since I left. I was indifferent towards the cardinals early and wasn't sure how much I wanted them to win the Super Bowl against Pittsburgh. But now I like them more, maybe because the Bills have been so frustrating to watch and the Cards have been pretty exciting. It's not a big conflict because the only time we could meet in the playoffs is the Super Bowl so..... I'll never go to a Cards game if it means I would miss a Bills game, so the only time I can go is a bye week or MNF. -
I don't buy crap at stadiums when I go to games, I also don't complain about it. I know the outrageous prices and deal with it. I can last a couple hours without eating. To still complain about the economics of sports is really quite ridiculous, I remember the start of baseball free agency back in the 70's, understood the shock to the system raising the costs for fans, but it's 40 years later, quit whining. It's been a fact of sports life for decades now. Regarding the trust with bids and such, first , you really have no idea what's really going on behind closed doors, there have been so much conflicting information that it is absurd to get fired up over the certain reports you decide to believe. In the end, and probably in the next couple weeks, Pegula will likely win the bidding, and the Bills will stay put. It really shouldn't matter to you and anyone else what he pays for it and how much profit the Wilson family makes. Whatever you think of Wilson as a owner, businessman or person.... I can't recall anything he has ever done that would be considered illegal or unethical. You can disapprove of his actions, but he has every right to those actions. I've never been a big fan of how he ran the team, however, he made it possible for me to be such a big football fan by keeping the team here my whole life, I'm grateful for that, and the best I can tell is that he did pretty much all he could do legally to sell the team to someone who would keep the team here for quite some time after he was gone. makes more sense , thanks.

I can't say for sure, but my guess is that if there were no bidders interested in keeping the team here, they would need an opportunity to leave, else they might not find a buyer. Just a guess.

Sick of Marone Being Down on Backups but Coddling EJ
klos63 replied to Mr. T's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Although the preseason looked horrible offensively, I thought Manuel played well last year, and if he didn't get hurt in the Cleveland game, the season likely would have had a much better outcome. Probably would have won that game and gone on from there. I think many are forgetting the bright side of his play as a rookie, missing lots of time. I will give him more regular season time to judge his performance. -

yeah, this could be a real problem if they needed next years first rounder for a QB. My guess is either Whaley or a different GM would go the FA route for a QB. There will be no patience for another draft choice. -

This is such a naive comment. Just because there is not an immediate threat to his job, don't think there is no accountability or pressure. The Bills invested a 1st round pick in Manuel, therefore it makes sense to give him every opportunity to succeed, which includes not having the week to week pressure of losing his job, but don't be misled into thinking he is being coddled. If he craps out this year, there will be competition for his job next year. But it makes perfect sense to give him all opportunities to succeed. This shouldn't be hard to understand. -
When he wasn't winded, Gailey got him the ball. This is where reputation comes in to play. Pettine is praised yet, we had one of the worst run defenses in history. Ever! He had Alonso playing in a position that hurt our team over the long haul. Yes, we had lots of sacks , but that didn't help us win.
-
I agree with you. Let's not forget the injuries to our RB's last year either. I was impressed how he held it together last year and never seemed to panic with all the injuries to key players. However, I'm not sold on him totally, I don't like the hurry up offense when Manuel still has a ways to go to be a solid QB. I don't question the play calling.... everyone criticizes the play if it doesn't work . He does deserve more of a chance than he has been given by many.
-
this I can agree with. My point is that just because we have a former lineman as coach, it doesn't mean our emphasis about the line would be any different than any other team. Obviously , there are teams with great lines out there and the head coach was not a lineman. Maybe I'm just too grumpy.

hardly a specialist more than any other offensive line coach. Others refer to him as a guru, I don't get it.
-
No he's not. He just used to play that position.

Aug 24 - Cancelling NFL Ticket

what he said! -
Giving your first round pick time to improve and become a quality NFL QB is not 'a free pass' . It would be insanity to give up on Manuel now.
-
I've asked this a number of times. Who, with any credibility heralded Marrone as a offensive line guru? I read from some writers and fans with no clue thinking that because Marrone was a offensive lineman somehow our line would be special, as if no other team hires former lineman to coach their lines.

Trade idea: Chris Hogan for Christian Ponder

I just don't think there are quality backups anymore. Not enough starters let alone backups. If your starter is down, you are pretty much done. -

Why would you think a bad starting QB makes a good backup? I don't see the logic. Will his interception rate go down? TD's go up? Will he become a better QB with less playing time and less practice time? i'm not saying you are right or wrong regarding Ponder, just don't understand the logic behind it. -

I'm not saying you are wrong, but just curious. What do you expect out of a backup QB? What do you think Ponder offers that our QB's don't. I know it's not everything, but Lewis had a higher QB rating the Ponder last year, Ponder threw more INT's than TD's. He's never really been any good as a starter, why would he fare better as a backup with considerably less practice time than he is used to getting. Not saying that any of these guys are like Frank Reich, but he looked awful when he played during preseason and didn't look good for a bit in his regular season appearances in relief, but much better when he started. It's very difficult to be a good backup, but what I believe is most important is familiarity with the system. That is why you see backup's sticking around longer than you think they should. -
I'm guessing she is ignoring all the rumors, which is probably a good idea for the rest of us. Bids will be submitted in 2 weeks, we will know who will own the team shortly after that. Let's watch some football in the meantime and relax. And it's really not a matter of 'does she need the money' it's her property for sale, she will get what she can. If she was really in it for the money, she wouldn't have a clause making it virtually impossible for the new owner to move the team. That is probably costing her a few hundred million - leave her be.
-
Deception isn't what wins, it's execution. It seems foolish to think you can fool the defense. You have 2 options, run or pass. If you are better then the other team, you will execute your plays. Look how often we knew teams were going to run on us last year and we couldn't stop them. No deception needed.
-
You must stand in the pocket longer in order to get a deep pass away at the right time. I think because the line has been in an experimental mode all camp with players changing position, the QB is more at risk sitting back there for a longer period of time. So yes, the injury risk is higher the longer the QB has to stand in the pocket.
-
They probably haven't thrown deep during the preseason because the line play has been poor and it exposes Manuel to injury.I don't think using the shotgun tips off anything, like you said, they do run off of it so it they think its a pass then it's a run.....I think getting the ball 3 yards behind the line is plenty of room to get momentum, I've heard Marrone called an offensive guru a few times. What is this based on? That he had Drew Brees as his QB? Hardly qualifies as a guru. My opinion is the offense will be greatly improved this year. If the line play is better that obviously will help. Also, we have better WR to help. Let's wait for the regular season to start before we criticize.
