McBeane will build a Wr Core of 2s & 3s.
Simon Says replied to BillsFan1988's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Everyone probably has their own definition of "#1 WR"., as it depends on the system and roster talent. It can be a 'relative" term . However; if Bills add a "true #1" that moves Foster and Jones down the depth chart and improves the depth ,so.for example, you might not have to use Philips or McCloud.. Recently guys like Watkins have gotten ridiculously high salaries and there arent going to be many WRs like that available. II expect bean will look for value; relatively young guys that are healthy, with some upside.. I like the idea of spreading the money around ,developing a variety of weapons, limiting risk. -
Good point; some of the recent WR deals were ridiculous, and i dont think there is anyone of that caliber coming available in '19. Beane could sign 6,7 8 guys at 10 million each ,spread the money around, protect against over-paying (or losing an expensive player to injury). There is other money potentially available, 10 draft picks...etc. I think it is probably mentioned elsewhere but i doubt Beane was worried about the salary cap when he cut Benjamin. Benjamin was a cancer, a bad veteran example, and attracting tons of negative press and fan reaction; plus, Bills had a couple young WR's they wanted to evaluate. Holmes really only contributed on ST, and both of them were gone end of season ,anyway. On the other hand, there wasnt enough depth at TE to cut Clay, and since he is still under contract for 2019, maybe they think he will get healthy and stick around. or not, it's a non -issue at this point of the season

Who says the Bills will sign the "top' players at any position? Sure, they will consider a WR, a C will make that much, but probably not RG or RT. if you sign 3 or 4 of those 'top' players, avg cap of 10-15 = 40-60 total. Bills developed a TON of young players this year and have 10 draft picks. They dont have to sign an expensive QB,so I'm not worried about the money.

Cut McCoy, Sign Bell (edited from McCoy out 6.4M cap)
Simon Says replied to RPbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I heard an interesting discussion on the radio; re: Castillo. Ranking of O-line coaches, taking into consideration the team's offensive, scheme, talent & experience level of the linemen, etc. I think Castillo was ranked 13th. He was hindered by the lack of talent & experience he had to work with (including a rookie QB and poor receiving group). Cant really blame pre-snap penalties on the coach, for example -
[Name Only Title] DeSean Jackson
Simon Says replied to FLBillsGuy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Will be 32. Technically under contract for 2019 but no cap hit if cut after this season? Has missed some games. I dont see Bills going after older players ,Thinking they want to get good value, sustain the process -

Simon Says replied to RPbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You could get BOTH of these guys for less than what Bell would cost, so I like that. I don't see Beane investing that much in a RB; too risky. Already have Ivory, Ford and Murphy, and can easily draft one and pay him rookie money. -
Clay told he will be released this offseason?
Simon Says replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i dont see Clay as being "trade-able', not with that salary. Teams could just wait for him to be cut and if they like him, sign him to a team-friendly deal. -
Where would we be if we still had Cogs and Wood?
Simon Says replied to formerlyofCtown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Therefore were obvious salary cap ramifications to Wood and Incognito retiring, but,Bills had time to find replacements. Could Beane have done a better job filling those two spots? How much worse was the Bodine/Groy combo at center? Ducasse/Teller at LG? -
I don't believe in the 3 year plan happening in '19
Simon Says replied to PUNT750's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills have about the fewest players under contract for 2019. Lots of holes to fill,or,opportunities for improvement. 10 picks, tons of cap money, they will fill out the roster but have to be smart. It will affect chemistry but dont give up on all the young guys already on the roster. -
All the Carolina signings, why did they not sign C.J.?
Simon Says replied to zow2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How do you know they didnt talk to him? But,if YOU were CJ,would you come to a Buffalo team that had several RBs already and a horrible OLine? -

Rams and Bills May Have Discussed Hughes Trade
Simon Says replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hughes,Murphy,,Lawson,Yarbrough,(?)all under contract at east one more year Bills arent desperate, but ood to start developing young DE(s) -
Good point...."elite' is subjective. How about 'top rung" or "top level"? "#1 wide receiver ",etc.? It's important the Beane be able to 'buy low" , get good value on players with upside.Top WR could cost 12-15 annually;6-8 for a 'top" TE; 12-14 for LT: 8-10 for a RT: G 10-12: 7-9 for a C; 7-9 for a CB (#2?)etc. Bean wont have to shell out 15-20 or more on a QB. Plus rework some existing deals. I see him improving depth and not making a huge splash at any one position. My point is i dont think it will be difficult to s pend that money (wisely)
-
Listened to Murphy and Tasker discuss this...Murph was of the opinion that fans deserve the best team possible...spend it. Bills have the most roster spots to fill, so they have shopping opportunities. If they go for an 'elite" WR, CB, Edge, LT,etc. that money will go quickly. Plus they can cut a couple veterans and absorb the hits

His salary will be 4.5, with a couple bonuses totaling another 4.5 If you keep him yes, his SALARY is 4.5, but you have to account for the bonuses against the cap ( 9 million cap hit). The DEAD money (the bonus money) is 4.5 next year next year, I assume his salary is not guaranteed which makes it easier to cut him,m and save 4.5
-
They have to account for the amortized bonus money so isnt it more like 9? Wouldn't surprise me to see Beane roll some over, but ,why?

Marcus Murphy: dislocated elbow

McKenzie went back in the game, didnt he? i didnt hear about his Achilles is he healthy? -
that would make him (this year) the 3rd highest paid backup ,behind Foles (9 million) Bridgewater (6) tied with Glennon. Then I noticed the article omitted Tyrod from the 'highest -paid backups"list that would make him (this year) the 3rd highest paid backup ,behind Foles (9 million) Bridgewater (6) tied with Glennon.
