Did anyone watch the Az-NE game?
Dan replied to LiterateStylish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I seem to recall a Pats* team that would have a 2 or 3 TD lead and still throwing for the endzone in that same situation. Saying its the other teams job to stop them, blah, blah, we're not padding stats. I just find it funny that when they actually needed to score, they stopped themselves and took the "safe" way out. And it bit them in the ass. Poetic justice, if you ask me. -
Seems to me... the sooner a stadium is built and a team decides to locate all the better for the Bills. A lawsuit, slowing things down would only increase the chance that Ralph passes prior to completion and the team is sold to an outside interest. (not saying that would ever happen, mind you)
-
Good points. I had forgotten about his extension. And I can easily see him making the team, and prefer it. Hence... he'd be a surprize cut. ;-) But that is a valuable roster spot just for a kick off guy. We shall see.
-
I doubt Morrison gets cut. He's a solid, veteran at a position of weakness on the team. Yes, Moats may beat him out as the starter. But if you cut either one... who's the backup? I doubt Easley gets cut, either. He's got the size you want at WR. Plus, plenty of upside. Sure, other players (Roosevelt) may outperform him, but for some reason that hasn't kept Roosevelt on the roster in the past. Another thing to consider, with all the 4 and 5 WR sets, do you really just keep 6 WRs? With Spiller, Smith, Chandler filling that role... maybe. WR cuts will definitely be the most interesting, IMO. There is zero chance Brad Smith gets cut. He's the #3 emergency QB... plus WR, WIldcat guy, Kick Return, etc. guy. Entirely too versatile to get cut. Either Young or Thigpen gets cut. My guess... Thigpen. Young may be rusty in this offense, but he has too good of a track record in comparison to Thigpen. Troup, I can easily see as being cut. He's just too injured for too long and we have too much depth already. Either cut or on the PUP list or something like that. My guess... cut. McGee... maybe. I like the idea of veteran depth at one of the more critical positions on the team. However, there's only 53 spots. So, honestly, I think it comes down to numbers and largely depends on who else they keep on the team. At this point, though, I'll be surprised to see him still on the team, unfortunately. Choice, for me, gets cut. But, as others have noted, Chan seems to like him. So, that may very well keep him on the roster. I just don't know. But, you gotta figure either him or White gets cut. My surprise cut... Lindel. Its hard to take up a roster spot just for a kick off specialist. So, I think they keep the young guy with the big leg. I'm not sure I agree with that, but just what I'm thinking.

Software upgrade: Your place to comments here

1. Just refreshed, cleared browser history, data, and cookies. Still same header.. looking jumbled. Maybe its just me? Either way, quite honestly, its not that big of a deal especially if I'm the only one seeing it like that. 2. I Hit the More Reply Options button. Still no joy. It has emoticons Enabled and Signature Enabled. but I see neither. Also has a button to Choose File to attach, but its also greyed out. Again maybe just me and my iPad?? 3. No worries. Overall, I like the new look. Or at least can live with it (personally had zero issues with the old look and functionality). And its nothing at all like the Office Ribbon - that thing is atrocious! -

Ok... that just seems silly. But, I found it. Any way possible to make it more intuitive and useful, i.e. like it used to be? Also, my header is jumbled. There's a large space before the TBD link, then one between Gallery and View New Content. Calendar, Chat Room, and More are on a second line. And the Search box is out of center line with the header. I was going to upload a pic to show, but i can't upload files or create links in a post/reply. Am I missing something? In fact, all the options for posting are not showing up.. emoticons, links, etc. I can just type text and go. (speaking of intuitive... isn't it better to have "Reply" and not "Quote"?) And, finally, just a matter of my taste, but I don't see a need to have all the avatars along with who made the last post in a thread. Just seems to make the front page busier. I'm using Safari browser on an iPad latest iOS version. Not sure if that matters or not. -
1. Ralph - without him there are no Buffalo Bills, period 2. Lou Saban - representing the AFL championships and returning to lead the Bills to more success allows him to represent 2 eras of Bills' football 3. Jim Kelly - representing the Bills of the 90's and his continued involvement in the team and community make him a resonating figure for the Bills 4. Bruce Smith - no other player or coach can be considered the best ever at their position, Bruce can. Although some may argue for a few other players as the best DE ever, Bruce's name is certainly in that discussion and leads many lists. Hence, you gotta include him for the greatness he achieved on the field.

I very much agree. I try to never discriminate in my daily life, but I also acknowledge that it is something that happens. To ignore it or approach it from a high horse perspective does little to address the real issue though. And that is, in reference to this thread, if you "come out of the closet", just expect some people to say "im tired of all these gay people in my face with their coming out, and having parades". If you don't want to be judged in that way, then don't publicly announce or celebrate your sexual preferences to the world.
-
I agree, as I've said. Exactly, beause she's a hot chick starring in action movies. Why don't you think she's in the serious drama's? Because she's not taken seriously as an actress because she's a hot chick starring in action movies, I'm sure is part of that. Really, is this that hard of a concept or are we arguing just to waste time? It may be prejudicial or illegal to discriminate, but the reality is people of every race, nationality, religion, sexual preference, etc. are judged by the majority every day. If you don't want to be judged don't call attention to your differences. If you're proud to be whatever and show everyone, just expect someone to have an issue with it and move on.
-
On the surface, I completely agree with you. However, the reality of the world and human nature disagrees with you and I. All I'm saying is that if you dress or act differently from the majority or the norm, expect to be treated differently. Unconform all you want. But, don't complain when people look at you differently. I would argue what we're doing is as un-American as anything I can thing of ... legislate the right to be different. If you're that hot chick in a low cut top and tight-fitting skirt, you have to work twice as hard as the middle-aged white man to be taken seriously. That's just reality. If you're openly atheist, expect all the Baptists in town to try to save your soul. That's just reality. I'm not saying its right, its just the way the world is. If you're gay and you want to be treated like everyone else, don't run around screaming how gay you are.

The accomplishment you are most proud of.
Dan replied to Jim in Anchorage's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Thanks. No, I haven't had any health issues related to my time at ground zero (as far as I know). I have rather strong opinions about this topic. And, for the most part, I keep quiet because it was a difficult time and place for many of the firefighters and other rescue workers to be. However, my first duty was to get 500 respirators on site before morning. Don't ask how I did that... because I still don't know how I pulled that miracle off. But, respiratory concerns were stressed and addressed from day one both on and around the pile. Certain individuals made personal decisions, for a variety of factors, and today have health problems. Others made different choices and do not. I'll pretty well leave it at that, so as to not disparage anyone that was involved. -
I have no problem with gay pride events dyngus day or any other celebration anyone may want to partake. However, when you strut down the street today in drag whipping some chicks, don't be surprised when people look at you differently tomorrow, and some even look at you discriminatorily. In my opinion, its called discretion. If you want to be treated the same as everyone else, then you should act like everyone else. Its basic human nature. If you're a curvacious young blonde that wants to be taken seriously at the office; don't wear a cleavage showing blouse and short skirt to the board room. If you're an atheist in an all Baptist neighborhood and you want to be president of the HOA; don't put a dawrin fish on your car. And so forth. I'm not saying never be proud of your culture or whatever, but if you flaunt your differences be prepared for someone to discriminate based on those differences. People are gay. Fine. I get it, no problem. But if you don't want people to make an issue of it, then neither should you.
-
What gets me is so many gay people want to be treated just like everyone else, because they're no different than anyone else. But, then they're the first ones to announce publicly how different they are by "coming out" or marching down the street in some flamboyant gay pride parade. It just seems contradictory.

What Is Your First Impulse when you find Money?
Dan replied to millbank's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Found bills on the street, especially in relatively small amounts like this, are near impossible to trace back to anyone. In the past, when I've found money, Its been one of 2 thoughts: I needed money to pay this bill, and the universe came through. Yay karma. And go home and pay that bill. I don't need money because my bills are paid. Yay Karma. And go take a friend out to lunch... compliments of the universe. -
Has there ever been more hype about a 500 team?
Dan replied to Captain Hindsight's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree and that was the point I was trying to make. This is the time of year when fans and pundits hype up teams... well maybe except Dolphin fans. Because no one has played any games, we're all undefeated, and every team has made moves they think will improve their team. Difference is ... the Bills actually did get better and win the off season. The Jets just suck . -
Has there ever been more hype about a 500 team?
Dan replied to Captain Hindsight's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought we were currently a 0-0 team. Yes, last season we finished with a 6-10 record, but since that time the FO has addessed every major hole on the team and re-signed players to ensure new holes weren't created. So, by all accounts, the Bills should be hyped and expected to have a better season in 2012. Of course the team still has to win the games come this fall, and to a man, that's what you hear from them. But, for fans and pundits, that's you do this time of year... talk about the teams that have improved, that made good moves, that appear to be on the right track. -
I may be wrong, but I don't think its so much the apps themselves being "open" that's the problem so much. But its more the apps that are constantly checking your GPS location or sending you push notifications. So, for example, having your browser always open does next to nothing to drain the battery in the background. But, having a an app like messenger or email or something continually checking and sending you a notification drains your battery much more. Obviously, you want some of these open and notifying you... text messages for example. But having Words with Friends notify you of every move someone makes in your game will drain your battery and do you really need that always running?

46% of Americans believe in creation
Dan replied to SageAgainstTheMachine's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I think you'll find most all evolutionary biologists and archaeologists disagree about many of the aspects of evolution. But, what they're disagreeing about or discussing are which evolutionary processes are more important for driving speciation, rates of evolution, even which species preceded other or are linked, etc. So, yes, there's lots of disagreement and new information being discovered all the time. However, the one thing I think they all agree on is that the past and future speciation of all life on the planet has occured through a number of evolutionary processes. -

I agree. Interesting and just as controversial as when it was all first proposed. Evolution is just one of those topics that intersects the core of our faith with our need to understand the world we live in. And, as such, will probably always be a lightning rod for discussion which is not really a bad thing at all. -

Yes, the classic Finch example is representative of natural selection, which is a microevolutionary process and is responsible for speciation on a smaller time frame. In a nut shell, its as you stated, how you get multiple similar species. To see more dramatic speciation, ie the development of chordates, you need to look at macroevolutionary processes that take place over a much longer time frame. For that, we're by and large talking about fossil records. -

Actually there's quite a bit of evidence that species diversify over time and the creation of new species. Here's a decent overview. The classic example is Darwin's finches. Indviduals made their way from the mainland to the Galapagos islands and became reproductively isolated from their mainland counterparts. Over time, the island inhabiting birds evolved into new species. -

The problem with that idea, and so many people I know feel like you do, is that Creationism is a religious theory. Evolution is a scientific theory that is accpeted throughout the scientific world and supported by factual evidence, and as such, should be taught in Science class. Creationism is a religious theory, and as such should be taught in a class on Religion. If you want your kids to learn about Creationism, then I say send them to bible studies class or whatever your church calls it (or a private school) and they can get all the God taught to them that you want. There's too many religions and too many sectarian beliefs regarding the origin of life. Why should one be favored over the other? Would you also be in favor of teaching Muslim beliefs in public school science classes because 51% of that community is Muslim and wants it in their texts? Scientologists have pretty strong beliefs they claim are supported by facts, should we add their ideas to tomorrow's studies? To clarify, I have no problem teaching Creationism or any or religious belief, but it should not be taught in a science class as an alternative to evolution until we have sufficient, widely accpted, factual scientific evidence to warrant it. Until then it belongs in a religous studies type course. -
I don't think so. As I recall the S50 was detachable and could be used like a portable mp3 player. But, not sure about the memory. The SL100 is bigger, but not sure if its got more memory. I recall buying it for the wife, because it had the gps antennae headphones, so she could use it while she jogged (which she only did about twice). That's about all I remember about the the units. edit: yep... just googled them... the S50 has 1gb of memory. the SL100 has 2gb. edit: now both units are taken.
-
sorry man.. sure I can't interest you in a perfectly fine S50 ?
-
No worries, Sorry I didn't have what you needed. But, the SL100 just got spoken for. If anyone wants the S50 ...just pm me.
