I think the wait might actually be over.
Dan replied to The Bills Blog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For me.... It's not so much that they look potent; but more so, they look competent. I've said for several years now... far too many it seems... that all I want is to see the Bills field an actual professional football team each week. I haven't even cared about winning so much, just don't show complete ineptitude. It seems, watching the end of last season, and even more so this preseason, that the Bills are finally turning into a competitive, professional, prepared football team. My biggest concern, quite honestly, is what did McD and company do in those blow out losses last year? Can they scheme better as a coaching staff? But, there is no doubt this team is transforming right before our eyes into a true contending NFL team. Will it all come together this year or not... We'll all see. But it seems it is definitely happening. And what is most encouraging... Beane and McD appear to be building a perrenial contender, not a flashy team with high priced free agents and me first players. Its a good time to be a Bills fan! -
I agree... Thats the dilemma. Sit the starters and no injuries... But on young teams, especially, you need to build cohesion and timing. I think you need to be smart with the playing time and expectations. But I'm also glad to see that most of our key starters are getting a lot of playing time together in camp and the preseason games. Sure it's an injury risk. But, its the best way to ensure the team is ready to go for week 1. And when you start week 1 on the road with a divisional opponent, I think you need to ready for that game and not still figuring out your starting line or how your WR breaks a route off, etc.

How many Bills games have you been to
Dan replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Count me in that lot. Being born and raised outside of Buffalo, by transplanted parents, I've never made it to a Bills game in Buffalo. One day.. I will. I've seen them play once each in Miami, Nashville, and HOF game in Canton. I have tickets to see them again this fall in Nashville (with my folks). So... It will be 4 games this year. -
Agreed. Without TBD... I'd spend my life largely devoid of any indepth Bills discussion. Even though I don't post much ..I read it all. Thanks and a toast go out to Scott and all the moderators and contributors that make this plabe thrive.

Definitely too young.... It seems like only a year or two ago she was posting here. May she rest in peace.

Mic'd Up: Josh Allen vs. the Lions
Dan replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We have all been waiting 20 years for a guy like this in Buffalo. It genuinely feels like we have a franchise QB in every way. He may still burn out or whatever, but at this point he is showing every skill and intangible we've been hoping for. The sky is the limit (assuming they can put some talent around him). -

Ok... No you did no post perfect. But you certainly said it needed to be better, implying that the pass was the issue for the incompletion. I am not making excuses. I'm merely pointing out that every QB makes throws that require the receiver to locate and adjust to the ball. And for ..any.. QB to complete the play (when its a pass play), they need a receiver to do their part and actually catch it. It was a good effort by Allen. I think we all agree on that. But my contention is that pass was not a wonded duck. It traveled nearly 60 yards and was very much catchable by only one player on the entire field. He often bails a bit early on the pocket. I completely agree. It's one of the big things he needs to work on. I would hope that with experience and a better O line we'll see him improve as a pocket passer. The final thought is the primary point. #85 needed to ..had to.. make a play for him. Due to Allen's running around, perhaps exhaustion from running nearly a half mile throughout the game, the pass was not perfect. It could have been better. But.. If 85 doesn't trip over his own feet, with no one around him, concentrate as the ball hits his hands; its a catch a professional 1st string NFL player should make. That pass was entirely catchable. To place any of the blame on Allen is to be disingenuous to that simple fact. -

The point you, and quit a few posters, seem to miss is that no QB makes perfect throws every time. It just doesn't happen. The key on that play was he had protection break down, ran for his life, and eventually saw #85 wide open. The pass was there, the guy just has to catch it. It was't perfect; it wasn't his best throw; but the pass was there, at the goal line, for the #1 TE to catch uncontested. And as we've seen countless times this season... There are several players that just can't catch out there. It's ridiculously bad the effort that was bad to catch that pass. -
Agreed. Allen did everything you wanna see a QB do. And I don't really fault Zay on that catch. It was a tough one and he did his best there. No QB throws every pass with perfect placement and timing. But good teams have receivers that make an effort and catch some of those passes. Its the lackadaisical effort by #13 and 85, week in and week out that's loosing games for this team.

He got the ball back with 2:33 left in the game. No time outs, down by 4. Needed to got 90 yards for the win. He got us within 1 dropped pass of the win. That... Is impressive. Its been quite some time since we seen a QB carry the team in the final 2 minutes like that. Color me impressed and looking forward to seeing him grow and lead our team for decades to come.

Charles Clay- the most useless player ever
Dan replied to NewEra's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There a couple of guys that should be cut immediately. They're not helping upthe team win. They're not part of the future. They appear, in all apparent ways, to not even care enough to try. #85 is one of them. There is no rational person that can watch him on the field and think he as earned a roster spot. -

I refuse to even say thier names again. Neither if these guys are even trying! The drops and lazy routes are just pathetic. How the coaches can cut players over "attitude" and allow these guys to see the field is a slap in the face to guys like Zay Jones and Josh Allen who ae clealry playing their ***** off to try and win. Add to the complete incompetence of this recieving/TE core, referees that just have to be on the take and it makes game all but unwatchable. I refuse to thing that the refs are just this bad. There is absolutely no way professionals can be this bad at their job. And its not just agains the Bills, so this is not a Billsgot jobbed rant. This is leaguewide. Either the league is showing favoritism to certain teams or they're fixing games for Vegas; but professional referees just can not pissibly be this bad all on their own. I was truly inpressed with Allen. I think we got a genuine franchise QB in the making. Cut every WR and TE not named Zay and Foster. Improve the OLine, and find out how much Pegs has to pay for a ref or two and we're definitely on to something next year. -
Who recalls this game from Thanksgiving in 1976?
Dan replied to Another Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have to agree with Bado here... I lived through the 80's (actually the 70's too, but was a bit young to really remember football games). The mid 80s sucked for the Bills, sure. But thats a couple years in between a very good couple of years. Even the 70's and the domination of the Fins, do not compare to the nearly 2 decades of bad football we're still watching. This isn't a hot pocket, I think we should win every year kind of notion. The Bills have been irrelevant for nearly 2 decades! We finally make the playoffs, after going 9-7, and follow that up by putting up some of the worst performances in NFL history since then. Whatever hope we all had last January, is all but gone. Sure, we have the QB of the future and lots of picks and whatever... But, may I remind you, that's all based on hope and speculation. Allen, for as much as myself and everyone wants him to be the QB of the future, has shown extremely little this year. I mean like, less than Barkley little! So, forgive some of us folks ..that aren't so young.. if we put it all in perspective, recognize that we're still very much in the quagmire of being a losing franchise and haven't started counting all of Allen's wins already. To say that '84 and '85 were way worse, is ignoring the context of the last 18 years. Those numbers are simply astounding! I've never seen it summarized like that. Judging players and decided who's the greatest often depends on the individual and the fond memories we grow up with. But, there's simply no denying that OJ belongs in the top 2 of any discussion of the best RBs ever. -

To all those who say this game sucked because of no defense... I guess you all hated the "no punt" game between the Bills and 49ers? Ya know, sometimes you just get a good game between two good teams who's offense continually have to step up make a play because the other's team's defense just did. I know we haven't seen the Bills do anything like this since the K-Gun, but that doesn't mean that football is supposed to be a play not to lose, punt at the 40, hope you can complete a pass game. It's what Bills' fans have been conditioned to, but thats just how far behind our team is not how bad their defenses are or anything else. Tonight's game was an amazing game. You had explosive offenses and great defensive plays lead to a back and forth slug fest with multiple players stepping up and making great plays when they absolutely had to. -
Precisely! I've been saying this for a while. The biggest thing he needs is time to "relearn" his mechanics. Playing and running for your life made him revert to the old habits. If this year is all about Allen... then take the time and let him learn how play the position.

Week 10 Bills @ Jets second half thread
Dan replied to SlimShady'sSpaceForce's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I stand corrected and apologize to Barkley. He's a better much looking QB than I was expecting. -
What possibly could be the thinking behind signing and starting Matt Barkley for one game over signing a proven vet like a Sam Bradford? I would honestly rather see 5pick Peterman play over Barkely. I think the process is literally ..throw crap on a wall and see what sticks. The fans of this team deserve better than what they're putting on the field today.
-
I fail to see how anyone can truly think this staff can build an offense. And I absolutely would not start Allen again this year! How is he supposed to develop in this ***** show of an offense? Best case scenario is he gets another injury. Worst case is his confidence is shot and he reverts to every bad habit he's ever had while running for his life.
-
If he stopped throwing to Benjamin, his completion percentage would go up and the interceptions would be less. KB is doing everything he can to sabatoge the offense with his incompetence. Peterman, for as bad as he looks at times, is getting zero help from the rest of the offense. They've all either given up or were never capable. But we'll all continue to bash the QB and pretend anyone could look good in this offense.
-
I don't know if its the players or Daboll, but this offense is so bad that we could replace that entire side of the ball with players from the stands and it wouldn't look any worse. They should seriously consider just forfeiting the remaining games rather than embarrassing themselves like this again.

Second half: Wk 9 Bears at Bills, 1 pm FOX
Dan replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He should have been cut weeks ago. There is absolutely no reason he should be on the field. Not only is he not very good... but his "effort" is complete bush league. A complete disgrace when you consider all the players cut because they didn't have the right attitude. -

Exactly... the explanation is complete BS. Sure you can hit a player at the los... but you can't run through a WR and take him out. It's crap like his that makes the NFL unwatchable. -
