WOW. Excellent all around game.

He has continually shown love to the Bills today. Just now, talking about the Pats*, what was Berman's comment..... ? "It makes you appreciate the accomplishments of the early 90's Bills even more." Also, when Mort suggested Jauron was a sleeper for being a coach on the hot seat. Berman quickly came back with.. not a chance the Bills will probably make the playoffs this year. I've seen past posts that blast him for his antics, but this guy has the Bills' back. Period. Gotta love him.

No it's definitely not looking good for him. Wow... is all I can say. I never really expected him to be a perennial probowler. But, it looks like the dreaded "bust" label is creeping up on him. Sucks.

That I think is the key to this whole situation. If he shows up in shape, picks up the offense quickly, and plays in week 2 (possibly week 3) - and the Bills don't lose in week 1 or 2 because of Tackle play. Then all he has to do is stay healthy all season and continue at the all-pro level he played at last year. Do all that and all is forgotten and he gets a new, big contract. On the other hand, show up out of shape or don't pick the offense up, take 2 weeks to start playing, play mediocre with nagging injuries all season; and he's just screwed his career. So, I agree, it'll be interesting to see what shape he's in, and is he practicing with the first team next week.

Kelly, the problem with this stance you've been supporting for some time now is that there's no way to ever prove or disprove it. We'll never know what price point the FO was thinking it would take to re-sign Peters before the hold out; so we'll never know if the hold out actually benefitted him. If he plays well and gets $10mill/yr; then you could say see the hold out helped. If he gets $8mill/year; you still say see he got more than he would have. There's just no way to tell - unless the Bills don't give him a raise at all and/or cut him. Then I think we could say the holdout actually hurt him. I'd agree the Bills probably agreed to waive the fines to get him to report. But, I'd think overall he's burned any good will he had with the team and now he only gets the big payday if he plays lights out. As opposed to just being consistently good (ala Schobel) and still getting the big pay day. So, in that regard, you could argue that he's hurt himself more than helped. Ultimately, I guess we won't know for several months or even a year.

Since when is the OLine coach responsible for the the offense's production? McNally's job was to coach Peters and the other OLiners. Given Peters development, I think we can conclude he did a respectable job, in the least. Yet, none of those other 31 teams rushed in to sign him when he was undrafted. Interesting that such a high in demand freak of talent wasn't more highly sought after - or drafted for that matter. Yes, he worked hard. But, the Bills also worked hard to develop him. They also paid him quite handsomely for his potential. Yet at the first sign of greatness, he holds out. Now that's gratitude. Hated by some fans - only after being a no show for 8 months. Prior to this hold out, he was perhaps one of the most loved players. Amazing how that works.

Completely agree. It makes absolutely no sense to let Evans go, which is why I'm confident he'll be extended. I can't legitimately guess as to why the deal isn't complete. All along I've thought that it would be announced this week (possibly late last week). Assuming there's not a new deal in place prior to Sunday, I'd guess that Lee is asking for top 5 money and the FO wants to give him top 10 money - something like that. It could be something like upfront money vs backend cash, but that always seems to get worked out fairly quickly (at least in my uneducated mind). Either way, Evans must stay. If not, I would say that its the first major mistake of this front office. All the other player moves have been good or bad depending upon your point of view, but I wouldn't place any of them into the major mistake category. (I don't consider the Peters situation a mistake by the FO, because they signed him to a nice contract 2 years ago and HE decided to hold the franchise hostage for more money in the same year they have a major FA in Evans to lock up.)

With luck... I'll be at home (finally) on my couch in Mississippi - drinks, chips, and fried pickles within reach - screaming loud enough to cause the neighbors to wonder what's going on. Of course, depending upon weather, work and a few other factors, I could also be in Oregon, Idaho, or Chicago. I envy all you guys attending the game. I know you will - but make us folks at home and around the world proud and wishing we were there. Stay safe.

I certainly hope history repeats itself. But, I think for the time being we're all going to have to get used to the bolded sentence from the national media and opposing teams analysts. On the surface... the Bills are coming off 2 consecutive 7-9 seasons, finished at the bottom of the league on Offense and Defense, have a young unproven QB, a new unproven OC, and a host of other question marks. So, yes, I could easily see other teams and the media expecting the Bills to lose. It's going to be really fun proving them all wrong. I figure a nice 3-1 start and we'll finally start to get a little respect.. but just a little.

So now Peters is on his way to the HOF? Peters is in no way comparable to Bruce. Please refrain from such lunacy.

Considering our TEs are arguably some of the least talented players on the team, I'm glad they didn't waste too many roster spots with them.

If the entire season of this franchise comes down to the presence or absence of 1 offensive lineman; then this team is a whole lot worse off than any of us or any one in the media thinks. Jason Peters does not a team make.

This point is what makes me lose respect for Peters the most. The Bills went out on a limb and gave the guy a roster spot, they then went out on a bigger limb and gave him a nice new deal when he really didn't completely deserve it yet - all on the promise that he would develop into a good offensive lineman. Then, as soon as he does become pretty good.... the Bills ask him to play one more year on the promise that they'll pay him then. And what does he do.... say F you and walk out on the team. So as long as the Bills are giving to Jason he wants to be a Bill, but as soon as the team asks him to give a little something; he says screw you? Sorry, but sometimes its a 2 way street.

Seems like the suggestion here is that as Bills fans interested in keeping the team in Buffalo, we'd be wise to start lobbying and urging the local print media for more coverage of the Bills. I'm sure there are a multitude of factors, but the national and, now it appears, local coverage of the Bills has been pretty miserable over the last decade. I'm sure much of that would change with a winning product on the field. But, it does seem reasonable that in addition to trying to sell out games, we fans should be trying to urge the local media to expand their coverage of the team. Maybe the local guys don't have NFL Network. Therefore, they didn't see the game. Consequently... little to no write ups about it.

Given that opening day is now less than 2 weeks away, I don't think that's going to happen. Even if he came in tomorrow, there's little chance he could be in football shape, learn the offense, and be ready to start in less than 2 weeks. He may come back, but I fear we'll have 1 or 2 regular season games without his services. But to be honest, the way this thing is unfolding, it looks more and more likely that he's done as a Bill.

Didn't JP play a couple of years before JP was moved to LT? I don't recall him ever being on IR. Didn't Trent play a few games last year without Peters at LT? I don't recall him getting a season ending injury. Point? Yes, Peters is a good LT, but the entire offense doesn't completely fall apart without him. We all assume this is what happened. But, to be fair, there's been zero confirmation in the media as to the content of any conversations Parker and Brandon had regarding Peters contract. Just as it's likely the team told Peters to shut up and play; it's also possible that Brandon offered Peters a new deal worth $7-8 million a year and Peters turned it down. Can you please provide s a link to that article? I don't recall ever reading that Peters came in and got checked out after his surgery. I seem to recall reading that the team has had no contact with him since he had his surgery in mid Jan. But I don't recall the part about him getting checked out by the team.

Yes. They were playing a show in England at the time. However they said nothing at all about.... "President Bush [being] an embarrassment to the country and a stupid !@#$". Actually, all they said was... "they were embarrassed that Bush was from Texas". Of course, it got completely blown out of proportion, but why worry ourselves with the facts. I believe the interest of Toby Keith supporting Obama is that at the time he and the Dixie Chicks got into a war of words... they obviously against the war; Toby for it. Of course, once again facts got obscured and now most people think Toby Keith is a staunch supporter of Bush and the Republicans, when in reality he's openly said he disagrees with much of Bush's policies. He did, however, do a much better job of playing up the redneck crowd with lines like... "We'll put a boot up your ass. It's the American way."

You may be right. It could ultimately help him. However, my bigger concern is does he come back in shape and play at that same or higher level without sustaining an injury? It's not at all uncommon for a player to come back out of shape and late in the offseason and then have a subpar and/or injury plagued year. I think there's little doubt that if he comes back and has another Probowl-type year, then he gets mega money.

A little food for thought.... If Trent misses this week's preseason game, does he start for the fist half of the 4th game? On one hand, it'd be good for him to have the time with the starting offense. On the other, starters historically play very little of the 4th preseason game.

Agreed. I think he almost has to show pretty soon. The Bills have given zero indication that they may cave. And as sad as it may sound, but the Bills may be thinking - hey, we haven't had a good Oline for over a decade. So what's one more year while we look for Peters' replacement?

I think this year will be quite interesting for the Pats*. It'll really show how much character and heart that team has. How many teams have been so highly favored to win the Superbowl only to lose it and then still make the Superbowl the following year. Not many. That's one of the most amazing things about the Bills of the 90's. To make it back for 4 consecutive years was nothing short of incredible. That was a team of heart. I'm not sure the Pats* are.

Has the Bills' FO said that.. or has it just been TSW posters saying that Peters needs to show up and he'll get a new contract? I ask because the comments I've read from the Bills suggested that if Peters showed up, they would begin to talk about a renegotiation of his contract (or at least I thought I read). IMO, the Bills have probably told Peters and his agent all along that he's not getting a new deal this year. It would be next year, at the earliest. Peters didn't like that; hence, the holdout. However, IMO also, he'd get a better deal (or at least have a chance at a better deal) if he were in camp and played another great season.
