Do the Ravens have te top 3 Defense because of Ngata or because of all the other players there. Certainly Ngata is a part of it and plays well, but take away Reed, take away Lewis, take away a few other game changers and what would Ngata be? At the time I was shocked with the Whitner pick. It was so far out in left field and Ngata seemed like such a big need for us. However, I now feel much better about the decision. The Bills were drafting their defensive leader. Whitner has become the heart of the defense. He leads by example on the field. He mentors the younger players (as odd as that sounds in his 3rd year). It's impossible to say, but would Ngata be the leader and motivator that Whitner is? If not, then who would? It's easy to say player x or y would have been better, but we really have no idea how these players would have turned out in Buffalo. What we do know is that Whitner has and continues to become a solid all around player, integral to our defense, and one of the key team leaders. To criticize his selection is to ignore all the good he has brought to the team.

Agreed, the Denver game could also be critical - depending upon what happens with each team between now and Dec. Hopefully, we come out pumped up and get after Rivers, ala the Seahawk game.

I told everyone... the Bills won the bye week. Go Bills!

Interesting graphic to say the least. Aside from that, anyone that thinks either of the candidates previous spending/taxing proposals are still on the table given the recent couple of weeks is ignoring the reality that will face this guy next January. Not knowing much about this sort of thing, it would be interesting to know what's the difference between the 50's and the 80's regarding government budgeting. Also, what did the Clinton administration do (if anything) to taper the debt? Seems like someone should know and be able to propose similar plans to curtail the deficit. Just read the article below the graph. Quite interesting indeed. Obviously, I don't have time (nor knowledge) to fact check the whole thing and critique it properly. However, it seems to fly directly in the face of the notion that Obama and the Democrats will spend more, tax more, and run the debt up higher. In fact, it states just the opposite. The Republicans regularly state they want a balanced budget and less government spending, yet no republican president has been able to achieve that "goal" (I paraphrased). I would suggest that anyone concerned about bigger government and increased government spending - read the entire article. It's thought provoking in the least.

One of my concerns with Peters is his motivation. As Dean has suggested, Peters came in and worked his butt off to become a very good LT. But, what was his motivation - to better the team or to earn a big paycheck? Seeing as how he held out for more money the very moment he was labeled as a good LT, I can guess an answer. So back to my concern, if his primary motivation is more money, then what does he do after he gets that big contract? Does he begin to slack off and become mediocre or does he continue to excel and improve his game? The league is absolutely littered with guys that played lights out, got their big contract, and then became very average. Would Peters become that type of player? I don't know, but it is a concern.
-
Perhaps the most valid point, I've seen yet. Yes, they have LT. But, with his toe hurting, he's a little less outstanding. Certainly still good, but a little slower. So, I can see the Bills D containing their running game. But, wow, did you see Rivers throwing that ball? He looked good and they have some big receivers. How will our secondary stack up. They looked pretty well below average against the Cards. So, this could once again determine the game. Hopefully, they figure out how to get some pressure into Rivers' face so he can't step into those throws.

Simply put... Hamdan Rocks!

If you're in the KC front office, wouldn't you wait till the deadline and try to get a bidding war started? I sure would. I agree. Pure speculation, but a good speculation, I'd say.

A palpable sense of doom here tonight...

FWIW, Peyton Manning said in his post game press conference yesterday, that it finally feels like he got through with the preseason. With luck, Peters feels the same way right about now.

Because it goes in the books as an incomplete pass (if I'm not mistaken).
-
Absolutely. I was hoping to reaffirm that idea. It's not going to be easy for the Bills. But, they are most certainly in the driver's seat at this early point in the season. If they go at least 3-1 in the next month, they remain there. Not a bad position to be in.

What about McCargo?

We could ask this another way.... If the Bills blow out the Chargers next week and roll through the remaining schedule resulting in a playoff appearance, does Jauron get an extension and be a candidate for COY? Part II of this question, would Modrak be praised? See, it's still plenty early in the season to know the final out come. So, we should consider all alternatives, not just the negative ones. Or, we could give it a few more weeks and have more information on which to base a discussion about how the Bills may or may not end the season.

I would disagree. KO is disappointing from a Fantasy Football standpoint; hence, that site may not like his play. However, from a Real Football standpoint, I would suggest he's a pretty solid player. Yes, he does make a few mistakes and take a bad angle at times. However, much like Poz, remember KO is still young and learning the defense so mistakes will happen. This is only his second year of playing time. So, he's still got plenty more upside than downside.

As The Dean said, BJ may make fewer bonehead plays. Once cowfans get over the initial shock, they may realize that BJ has done nothing but play well as a backup. He's steady, makes good decisions, and usually minimizes mistakes - kinda the anti-Romo. I could easily see him keeping the Cowboys right on pace.

Although I do agree that this is our division to lose at this point, I'm not so sure it's going to be an easy win. Yes, the Jets have struggled with bad teams, but they've beaten them pretty well in the end. By no means will a game against the Jets be easy. The Fins are flawed and getting by with some gimmicky wildcat offense, but they're surprisingly competitive. And more worrisome is they have Chadwick, whom excels at precisely what the Bills have shown they can't even recognize let alone stop - quick slant passes. The Pats*, perhaps the poorest of the bunch, but they've shown they can still play solid football if a team lets them. So, yes, the next month will tell us quite a bit. But, I don't see any of the next four games as being easy in any way. It all gets started next week with a team that is loaded with talent and just shredded the Pats*. As stated in another thread, this week's game is huge. It can give us the confidence and the momentum to roll through our division. Let's hope the Bills used the extra week to figure out what they need to figure out.

Giants and Titans remain undefeated, so... ya kinda have to put them at the top of the heap for at least another week. *Assuming the Giants win tomorrow.
-
Exactly. Gotta love it. We're now all alone in first place and even have a game to give - in mid October no less. I think I'll head on over to nfl.com just to see the division standings.

There does seem to be alot of people that have a hard time admitting they were wrong. No worries with me. I'm just more happy that the Bills have, indeed, won the bye week.

I sure hope Whitner and Co. are watching this #83 fella. Wow.

Maybe he means we're trading Jackson for Herschel?

OMG... Really!?!?!
-
Kinda what I'm thinking... has Bryan done anything on special teams to make anyone say that any scrub couldn't replace him? We know he's absolutely got no game on defense.

Point made. Point accepted. I'd like to see Denver lose too.
