Mort is the only one to pick the Bills!
Dan replied to Tortured Soul's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's because TD's boy, JP, is starting. -
Riddle ME this...What do these have in common?
Dan replied to Poeticlaw's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. It would be a good problem to have. Typically, I think you go with the hot hand. So, I can see your point about it depending upon how we win - because of JP or because of the defense. Of course, some people think the QB's play somehow effects the defense's play; but lets not worry about that till the post game. It will be interesting to see Jauron squirm with the answer, though. I really hope JP proves everyone wrong and earns Offensive Player of the week Honors. -

Wonder if anyone in Tennessee would disagree with that? -

But there's the question.... if JP wins this Sunday, should he/does he start against the Jets? -

No biggie. You know it's gotten bad when we're all talkin Flutie again. -
Anyone catch this about today about Jauron?
Dan replied to drhockey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is my single biggest concern with replacing Jauron. There's no guarantee that they'll bring in anyone worth a dang to replace him. It can get worse... a lot worse. -
I don't like it. Not nearly miserable enough. I say we win the next three to be 9-6. All we have to do is beat NE* and have Baltimore lose and we're the #6 seed. They flex our game to the late game. We all watch the Jags beat Baltimore. Our guys take the field only needing to beat NE* at home. We start good, but blow it in the 3rd quarter. The Pats* finally seal the game with an 80 yard TD screen pass to some scrub in the 4th quarter after Jauron punts from our 40 yard line on 4and2 (Moorman puts it in the endzone). During the offseason Jauron's extension is announced as you described.

Sorry what 2 years did he do that? I know he led us to the playoffs in '98 and lost in the wildcard game. But, he didn't start that season as the Bills' starter. He game in mid season for Johnson, as I recall. 1999 was the first time he started the season as a starter and got his team to the playoffs and should have started in the playoffs (IMO). I recalled a quote at the time where he said that was his dream come true, that 99 season - that's what I was referring to (however, I could be wrong my memory has been known to suck). What other season did he take a team to the playoffs? -

Not to mention he got us to the playoffs. I agree, I never got it either. The guy played his ass off to get us into the playoffs, does that, realizes his dream of playing for an NFL team in the playoffs is at hand - then gets benched and we lose. And we want to blame him for being pissed. Imagine that. I liked Flutie, still do. But, then again, I tend to cheer for whoever the Bills put on the field. I'm a homer like that. Of course, some people just like to B word. -

Dan replied to bananathumb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
True. Trent may be hurt, but is he hurt so much that he can't start? Yeah this is just me wasting thoughts, but it'll get more intriguing if JP somehow manages to play well in a Bills win this weekend. Too bad he didn't want to stay. -
Is the decision to fire Jauron out of Wilson's hands?
Dan replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good point. If the Bills finish 7-9, or even 8-8, this year; it's going to take more than a tweak here or there to convince fans that the team is making the right moves to get over that hump. -

Sometimes, yes. As I just said in the other reply, I think it depends upon who they'd bring in. I'm not attempting to dredge up any QB debate, I'm merely suggesting that Jauron could be acting out of desperation? Yes, he knows what he has in JP. But he also knows Trent has been in a real funk lately. He doesn't have time to let Trent play himself out of it. He needs to win now and he's desperate. I could be full of it, I don't know. Just something to think about. -

I really hope you're right. I think you are. But, I'm just not sure. Sometimes these guys looks great, but then you see some really bad for stretches. I guess it comes down to who they'd bring in. Yeah Miami and Atlanta did it this year, but what about KC? It all comes down to who they bring in, IMO. And that, perhaps, is what concerns me most. When was the last time they brought in quality at any coaching position? -
I think we all know the Chroise would part the Dome bringing forth a snowy death spiral of touchdown bombs in a smashing defeat of the fish. So, please, leave him out of this pseudo QB debate.

Just had a thought about the Toronto Game...
Dan replied to Poeticlaw's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Another thought.... maybe Ralph wanted the Fin game in Toronto because he figured with it being the rivalry game that so many Bills fans attend, that it would ensure more people would make the drive and attend. ?? If the Bills were playing SF up there this week, how much interest would there be for the game this week in Buffalo? -

Why would that be acceptable? We started this season with the HC and Players stating the goal this year was the playoffs. Then we start 5-1. All is looking good. Now we're 6-6 and it's looking more and more like Jauron is losing the team. So, how is winning just 2 more games saving his job? IMO, 10-6 with no playoffs saves his job. 9-7, possibly. Although, it would probably depend upon which game was lost and how we won the 3 others. Me personally, I'm nervous about Jauron leaving. I agree, with each passing week, we need a new coach more and more. However, I shudder to think of yet another new HC, new assistants, and several more wasted years of players learning new schemes. So, I'm somewhat ambivalent on the whole issue to be perfectly honest. I guess I'm just waiting for the next couple of games to play out to see how the season actually ends. On a related topic, could Jauron be starting JP in an effort to save his job? Perhaps Trent is really injured, but maybe less so and Ralph really wants to see JP? Or maybe Jauron is desperate knowing he's about to lose his job, so he's trying everything possible? It wouldn't be the first time a coach made a similar move in an attempt to save their job. -
Agreed. The OP should change the thread title to... "I'll linger here for several days with this..." The only thing worse than people starting threads saying they're leaving, is starting said thread and then not leaving. Just go already.

Look at what you created Ralph........

It would definitely be a start. But, they need to do something. The cold and snow in Buffalo should be a HUGE advantage, but it just isn't with this team. -

Quite seriously... when has playing in cold, windy, snowy conditions helped this Bills team over the several years? It really is time to face reality - this team is not a cold weather team. The players nor the game plan are equipped for December in Buffalo. Depressing thought, but terribly true. -
The problem, as I see it, is with situational play calling. It's calling for a pass when the run game is clearly getting you yardage. It's calling an up the middle dive when they've been getting stuffed in the middle all day. It's calling a WR screen when the DBs are playing tight man coverage. And so on and so forth. Putting the players in a position to succeed is one of the primary ways a coach can affect a game. Unfortunately, our offensive players are more often than not put in bad positions with bad and predictable play calling.

I'm fairly certain proper etiquette dictates that you don't "read" anything Mort says; you just post "Mort Sucks" (or some other derogatory phrase) any time you see his name and move on.

Do you have any confidence in J.P. Losman?
Dan replied to DIE HARD 1967's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. At times, this early season, Trent looked like a bona fide NFL QB. It was refreshing, surprising, almost awe inspiring to see a Buffalo QB look so competent. With that said, I still expected him, as a 2nd year QB, to hit some speed bumps and have a few bad games. However, the marked regression in his play is quite concerning. Is it Trent or the coaching? I don't know, but he's clearly taking huge steps backwards. We all know there are things caoches can do to "protect" a young QB. Quick routes, simplified reads, play action, and running the damn ball are just a couple of tried and proven ideas that make young QBs look better. Yet, we do none of that with any regularity. Why? It truly does puzzle me. I never thought JP was nearly as bad as many posters make him out to be. Nor do I think Trent is as bad as he's been playing (maybe I'm just a Bills homer) which is why those numbers werer so interesting to me. However, I think both have been put into situations that make it very difficult for young QBs to develop. And that situation is playing for coaches that do nothing to help their QBs. Or I should say, I assume its the coaching. Maybe the coaches are calling the right plays and our guys can't execute. That's hard for a fan to know. -

Bring in the CHROISE... bring in the funk!!!! If Hamdan were to start, the groins would part and touchdowns would follow!
