I'm not in any way saying the Bills played a good game. Nor am I suggesting that Byrd is a great player. I'm just saying, he looked good today doing exactly what they said they drafted him for. Yes, he needs to improve. Yes, the LBs need to play the run better. But, its nice to see a young guy that's drafted to get interceptions get some playing time and actually get some interceptions. He had a good game, that's all. Sometimes we can see something shiny amongst the tarnished backdrop of our dispair.

Ball on the 50, 4:30 left in the game. They move the ball 20 yards and play for a 46 yard FG into the wind for the win. On that alone, he should be fired. How do you not try to get closer? We had a minute left and let the clock run down while running the ball once??

So... maybe Edwards is the problem?
Dan replied to Glass To The Arson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fitzy didn't look too good, to me. Of course he probably didn't have much time with the 1st team offense preparing, so maybe you can cut him some slack. However, there were several times that I caught myself saying, "No way Trent attempts that pass." Anyone else think Trent throws to Nelson, behind the defender like that? Granted all his passes weren't great. But, I give him some credit for at least trying. That's more than I've seen from Trent that last few weeks. -
I understand what you're saying. But, its funny that so many criticize Whitner because he never makes a big play; despite the fact that he's a technically solid player. Now we have a guy coming in making plays and still no credit? Come on, at leat give the guy credit for making some great plays. Yes, it'll take a few years to determine just howw good he is; but in 2 games... he's shown quite a bit.

Who starts next week at QB vs Carolina?
Dan replied to toddgurley's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Last season a hard hit on the head knocked Trent out and he's been in a daze ever since, unable to read defenses, and slow to deliver the ball. Maybe this is one of those times where another hard hit on the head straightens him back out and he gets his poise back? -
Interesting. I didn't know that. Thanks.

Skins are punting. Chiefs block it (or so it appeared). Ball, on the block, bounces more forward than back. The Skin guy picks it up and runs in for the TD. Refs call it back and say illegal touching by the skins because the ball didn't pass the LOS. Cheifs ball at the 50. Why didn't the block count as a Chief touching it first? What am I missing? I don't get it.

The Bills play uninspired, apathetic football. The posts on this board have become increasingly uninspired and drone on about the same crap. Watching football sucks. Lately, reading this board sucks. This season sucks. That's the single worst thing about the current state of the Bills. They've taken the football season away. (I don't often do polls, so I got confused on the difference between the thread title/description and the poll title/content. So I just made them the same. As though anyone cares about my disfunctionality.)

Precisely. How often has Trent made a play at a critical point in the game? When has he ever elevated the performance of the players around him? Yes, the Oline looks bad. But that does not excuse the completely inept play from Trent. The guy doesn't even attempt passes. At least try. But no, 3rd and long, 4th and long and we still get checkdowns. Screw it. It's pointless to argue

Youth raise money for message "Fire Jauron"
Dan replied to BillsZubaz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Are you suggesting that the people that want Ralph to clean house and fire Jauron, Modrak, and Guy are in the minority? IMO opinion, the message represents the area and the fanbase quite well. We're all upset with the state of the franchise and waiting for Ralph to clean house. So what's wong with saying that? Nothing in the message is demeaning or disrespectful. He simply states, it's time for a change of direction - clean house and lets start over. I would suggest that no one is going to raise the money for the "positive" billboard is because you can't find more than 2 or 3 people that want to see the Bills continue... with their continuity. I, for one, applaud this guy. He did something more than just complain. -
Ummmmmmmmmm.........OK...................

Youth raise money for message "Fire Jauron"
Dan replied to BillsZubaz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, because we were all so sure Jauron would be fired after last season's 7-9 collapse. No way things could stay they same after going 0-6 in your division and witnessing a total collapse of the team. And, yeah, I have all the confidence in the world that Ralph is bringing in Cowher, Hlomgren, etc. Why wouldn't he? I mean it's so obvious. Yes, hoping for a 1-15 season is so much fun. Nothing like a good beat down each Sunday to make me want to laugh and have good times... good times. Really? -
Bills to dump No Huddle Per PFT
Dan replied to MartyBall4Buffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm starting to think we should try that new fangled Wild Cat offense. Only I'm thinking we direct snap it to Fitzpatrick or Hamdan. Then they could either hand it off or throw it depending upon the situation. -
As if being able to run and jump makes you a man. Sure. I couldn't help but while reading that. So yeah put my little weak out in the woods competing with some Neanderthal for food. I don't think it's even close. I'm eating everytime.

OK. Seriously, HR... screw the dude. What do you care if he likes/respects you? First thing, though, don't apologize for buying a 6er when he gave away a 30 pack. When he first complained about it, you should have told him to" off, you took my beer I took yours. You got a problem with it leave my alone." Nothing more really needs to be said in that situation. Screw all the apology, can't we all just be friends stuff. He doesn't like you, you don't like him. That's just the way it is. I say go about your business in the house and screw him. No need to talk to him, no need to even acknowledge he's there. Yeah its a little uncomfortable, but there's not much way around that now. As for the other guys, I say same thing. If you're going somewhere and they want to tag along... sure why not. But screw all this drivin Miss Daisy crap. Gas costs money. If they want rides they need to give up gas money, its as simple as that. Unless you're just bored and want to get out. The situation sounds pretty uncomfortable all the way around. But, from your description, you've done nothing wrong. So, screw the apology stuff. Just go about your business, spend time at the library or somewhere like that studying. And basically don't worry about them. They'll either come around or they won't. But, that's out of your control so no sense worrying about it. Some people you meet are just wipes. As others have said, it's just the way it is. Why waste your time with them. Oh yeah, and next time they want to have a "house meeting" or whatever to talk about their feelings and crap, tell them you didn't join a sorority. Why don't they just throw Legally Blonde in the DVD and all have a good cry or something? I mean, really, guys don't have meetings to talk about what's bothering them. They rag the crap out of each other over beer.

Agreed again. I didn't mind trying him at LT. Why not? And even then when he's not working out - supposedly in part because he couldn't keep up with the pace of the no huddle; lord knows we run that thing at break neck speeds - he was just cut. Seemed odd, to say the least. I was thinking... why not just keep him on as backup RT. If the situation arises, as it has, that he needs to see significant time at RT, then just go back to huddling up. Yeah it's maybe not ideal but its better than the alternative of having Scott or some other practice squad scrub filling in. I guess that's why we're not HC/GM material.

I've been sayin it since week one... put a big ole cast on his arm with some metal in it and let him just go out there and club people to death. Same for Whitner. Does he really need his thumb to hit people? Lord knows he's not intercepting the ball regardless of thumbs or not.

Trent Dilfer said it best this morning on ESPN
Dan replied to zow2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Completely agree. It's similar to preseason when the 1st string offense looked so horrible. Then suddenly, Fitz and Chroise come in and start throwing 20+ yard passes. As though suddenly the clouds opened and the defense parted. No, the starting QB just changed. -

I completely disagree. Watch any marginally competent QB and compare his play to Trent. Trent drops back, looks, looks, pats, looks, tries to throw (or runs somewhere). If he did what all marginal QBs do; he would be much more successful. Drop back, look, throw (occassionally - look, look, throw). He's not decisive enough. That's his problem. I agree. His line is not going to give him 5 seconds to stand there and wait for a 50 yard route to develop. But, that's exactly why he needs to drop back and throw and stop all this looking around trying to figure out who's the most open guy out there. His line isn't giving him time to survey the field and think. So why is he trying to do it? Just throw the ball! If the receivers are running too deep; then that's on them. But, I refuse to believe that all the receivers are running 40-60 yard fly patterns on every play. He's had oppurtunities to go down field 20 yards or so, but isn't taking advantage of them for whatever reason. Either the coaches have beaten into his head to go through all his reads first then go back and throw to the best one; or he's doing it on his own. But either way, he needs to stop and just throw the ball. -
Agree completely. I was firmly in the "get a LB" this past off season. IMO, Oline and LB were the 2 single biggest needs we had, easily. They addressed the line... sorta. But, did absolutely nothing to help the LB position. And low and behold the defense is suffering because of it. IMO, they should have kept Walker - as an emergency RT; funny how that would be beneficial now. And brought in a serious upgrade to Ellison. They did neither. Oh well. The season was fun while it lasted... I guess.

I would agree completely. The problem is simple, really. The Bills allow the defense to play the entire game within 10-15 yards of the LOS. With nothing but runs and dump passes, they never back the defense off. The first 2 games, the Pats* and Bucs backed off the line a little because - rightly so - they thought with TO and Evans, they had to worry about the long pass. But, it didn't take long for everyone to realize that Trent is nearsighted and cannot see a receiver 10 yards beyond the LOS. Because he just won't make the throw. So, everyone plays up and takes away all the underneath stuff and run game. Even with defenses almost begging him to try a long pass to a single covered WR, Trent will only do it 1-2 times per game. Essentially, the offense has to operate to perfection to be successful. Those 1-2 deep balls have to be perfect, all the underneath stuff has to be perfect, no penalities, and so on. Well guess what... they're not perfect and end up going no where. Until Trent grows a set or gets a pair of glasses and throws deep repeatedly, this offense will look as pathetic as it has. It's really as simple as that. -
I'm sorry but what in the world would give you even the slightest inclination that the Bills will even score a FG in this game. The Bills have looked a slight better than a lower tier high school team with swine flu the last three weeks. There's absolutely no reason to think they can "get better" against the Jets. Pull over any 10 random people driving down the turnpike and suit them up. The Bills still lose by 2 scores, if they line up in a 3-4 set - one score if one of the cars is a family of 5.
-
I appreciate your optimism. But, you're talking about a shot at the big prize and that should be the goal. However, for now, I'm just hoping they can win another game. I guess my expectations have been lowered.
-
Quite honestly, who cares who they bring in. It's completely irrelevant. The problem on this team is 80% offense. The offense cannot score... period. You can't do much more on defense than hold a team to 2 FGs and keep the QB to 2 completions. Yet, somehow, we still lose? Yeah, the defense may suck with practice squad srubs coming in. But, unless the offense (Trent) figures out how to score more than 3 points a game, none of it matters. Let me put it this way... suppose we traded an injured Buggs for Ray Lewis (yeah I know stupid, but I'm using hyperbole to make my point). So, now we have Ray Lewis. Does that mean we can outscore the Jets? Unless they get a LB that comes in and breaks Trent's leg in practice, I really don't see how it helps.

I came to that realization about 2nd quarter of LAST week's game.
