'Men of a Certain Age' premiers tonight...
Dan replied to The Poojer's topic in Off the Wall Archives
It looks like a show about middle-aged guys sitting around talking about how they're getting old and their priorities change and crap like that. If it is... it'll bomb. Guys, of any age, don't want to watch a show about other guys sitting around talking about their life. That's what chicks do. Guys want: action, sex, or comedy. It's pretty simple. So if no one's getting shot at or hookin up with hot babes regualry or a straight up comedy, its over before it began. -
There was a thread a little while back about Parcells' QB requirements. I'm not sure I can recall them all, but wasn't one of them - he had to graduate college (along with 30ish starts, winning record). Now, I'm not one to say Parcells is always right, but he has been associated with a few decent QBs over the years. So, maybe he knows a little more than me. With that in mind, should that lower Clausen's stock at all? Seeing as how QB is the most important position on the team and we've been looking for one for 15 years, it seems like we'd want to do al we could to draft a "sure thing". Does anyone know of any guys that declared early and then turned into great QBs? Just curious.

Yes, because good coaches only go to teams that make the playoffs. If only we could have finished the season 10-6, we'd have our pick of top coaches.
-
They did. They deserved to lose. Skins had the ball, running the clock to under the 2 minute warning. Ball on the 10 yard line (more or less)..under 2 minutes, ahead by 7. Skins kicker shanks the kick, no points. Brees gets the ball scores a touchdown in less than a minute to tie the game. Skins make that easy FG and the game is over, borrowing a succesful Saints onside kick.
-
Agreed. IMO, our needs and priorities are clear - OT, QB, LB, DT, in that order. However, what position gets drafted first and second, I think, depends upon what they do in free agency.

Funny thing is... I woke up Friday morning wondering if the Bills were going to play this week.
-
Precisely. Goodell is going to go down as the Commissioner that oversaw the decline of the NFL. Losing this money, in and of itself, doesn't make the Bills (for ex) less competitive; but it's another nail in the small market team's collective coffin. It's already hard enough to compete for top name FAs and coaches. Now, you're taking money away from the small market teams. While pushing for more games/teams overseas. While pushing for a team in LA, as though we need 4 teams in CA. While making new billion dollar stadiums the norm. While steadily increasing the salary cap. While trying to extend the season, which means more players which means more salaries. The path the NFL is heading down is not good for small market teams and the competitive nature of the game. And, I didn't even mention the subjective nature of the refs of recent years.

What's the story on this McElroy guy? He's looking pretty good to me.

Florida LB, #51, Spikes. Any relation to Takeo? I rarely watch college ball. Only watching this to see what all the Tebow hype is about.

Key problem in this game (and most all season for that matter): 3rd down. Our defense cannot get off the field, and our offense cannot stay on the field. Why can we never stop a team that is facing 3rd and 10 or more? If there was ever a reson to change our defense, there it is. Toronto crowd sucks. If the NFL (Goodell) can't see that moving games to international destinations is wrong and bad, then they're idiots. 2nd year in a row of watching boring football. Even when a good play is play, the crowd reacts with golf claps. Or at least that's how it comes across on TV. It's a bad viewing experience. One last thing, please, please stop scheduling division games there. Fewell may be better than Jauron. But, can we all come back to reality a little?

Plantar fasciitis...anyone familiar with this?
Dan replied to The Poojer's topic in Off the Wall Archives
My wife had it last year. She plays tennis quite a bit. She did all the stretches several times a day - pointing the toes in, leaning into the wall with her legs back, etc. She also got the special inserts for her shoes to provide better arch support. Nothing really worked. In the end, it just took several weeks of taking it easy. To this day, she makes sure to do the stretching exercises and wears the shoe inserts. Luckily it hasn't come back. But it was quite painful for her. I'm not a medical doctor, but from her experience, I would say that running will only aggravate your condition. I'd give it a week or 2 rest and see how it feels then. -
Fewell is going to complicate the coaching search big time
Dan replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
WOW! Excellent point. I meant to mention yesterday, but it slipped my mind. That series of plays was.. mind blowing. If Ididn't know any better, I'd think they planned all along to go for it on 4th down; hence, they took the shot. Impressive. At the time, I was cursing... why try that bomb when all you need is a yard? Then what? You try a long FG? You punt? But, no, they lined up and went with a great play call to get the first down. It looked like a design QB run all the way to me. If any of our reporter, in the know, folks are reading this... any chance you could ask Fewell about those 2 plays?? -

I see what you're saying, but in my mind's eye, it confirms what I've thought all season. That is, we have much more talent on this team than most anyone recognizes. Due to a completely lackluster HC, they've been grossly underperforming. So is Fewell really that good or is he just awake? Is Fewell good enough to be the next HC? I won't say have a week and a half with the reigns. I'll wait untill week 16 or 17 and see how they're playing. -
I've wondered about that as well. Lynch even talked about adding weight this summer. And, I agree, he's looked a lot slower all season.

At 24-14, were you still worried we'd find a way to lose?
Dan replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was ready to text my friend who's a Fin fan. Then I said... wait, no. Then I said let me call my sister and whoop it up with her... nope..it's not over yet. So I put the phone down and waited anxiously. When we got the Whitner interception, that's when I felt confident; but, not before. -
Time Warner Cable's "Roll Over or Get Tough"
Dan replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in Off the Wall Archives
That's actually a good point, I hadn't thought of. So how is it that the network channels can stay in business for free, but all these cable channels have to have us pay for them to stay in business? HBO and the like make sense because they don't have commercials. But, yeah, why do we have to pay for all these stations when they get money through their advertising? -
With all due respect, I'm not sure anyone is saying that Marv and Brandon have been uber successful. Some of us are just trying to acknowledge that some of the players have played well. And Whitner, despite his draft spot, despite his detractors, played a good game today and has been a good player for this team since he was drafted. Not great, not future HOFer, not the best, but good none the less. To acknowledge that does not forgive the FO from all their mistakes over the last few years. It just gives a Bills' player a little credit for playing hard so we all have something to feel a little better about.
-
I see what you're saying, but IMO that ship has sailed. By all accounts, Jauron had significant influence on the makeup of the roster; and, we drafted a ton of DBs. Consequently, this team is poor in many other areas, losing, and Jauron is gone. So, yes, we could have drafted someone else. But, today, that means little. McKelvin is on the team and it'll be up to the future coaching staff to determine if he should say. For me, until the day he's cut, I'll suppoort him and hope he does well. I guess I just don't understand the constant ragging on players because our FO drafted them. It's not the players fault they were selected by the Bills. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them were just as upset about it as you.

Thurman Thomas disrespected by two current players
Dan replied to zdro22's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm guessin Poz started ragin and tried to eat his kid after Stroud told him he looked like a little chicken McNugget. -
Thank you for posting that! I had looked up those numbers and almost made an identical post in the "bash Whitner" post back on Wed or Thurs. But decided not to, because what would it have mattered. But, I'm glad to see him have a good day today. I know Whitner is everyone's favorite player to bash because he was drafted #8. But the reality is, Whitner is a solid player. I'm not saying he's our best defender. All I'm saying is the guy consistently plays hard and plays the run good. You can draw a clear line to the games he's missed this season to our worst run defense games. He was back playing most of the game today and it showed. What people need to realize is that the Bills decided to go with a soft Tampa 2 defense, ala the Colts. Not a hard hitting run stuffign D like, ala the Ravens. As a result they drafted Whitner not Ngata. It's as simple as that. If you don't like it, blame the soon to be defunct coaching staff not the players that are out there playing their off.

Fewell is going to complicate the coaching search big time
Dan replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That pretty much sums it up for me. I'm delighted as ever that Ralph seems to be seriously going after Shanahan. Not so much because I think Shanny is guaranteed to get us in a Superbowl, but more so because I think Shanny will immediately make us a well-coached, respected and winning team. However, if Shanny says no. Then, let's get the best GM candidate we can and let him decide if Fewell or whoever is the best person for the job. -
To be fair, that's exactly what the FO did back in August.

And here I thought I was responsible for the win today because I changed my mojo by changing my game day shirt and only eating chips after they scored. All that will power, and I still suck! So you're telling me I could have all the chips and dip I wanted?
