Get a proven QB like Big Ben and there's a chance, albeit slim chance, that we could win at least 8 games next season. With our current group of QBs or a draft pick, there's an infinitesimal chance that we have a winning season. So, I'm not saying I'd be excited; but I'd at least think there's was a chance of having an average year. Of course, with our coaching staff, I see no reason to believe that we'll have a winning season anytime soon regardless of who they bring in. So, the only way I'll be excited is when Chan actually proves he can simultaneously be a HC and OC (something not many HC's have been able to do) and be worthy of his hire when no one for 10yrs has thought him competent.

I'll be sending good thoughts and prayers in your direction. News like this is never good. But, I'll pray you get through this difficult time as well as possible. -
Number Nine Draft Class of All Time on NFL Network
Dan replied to Amstel's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If that draft class was the key to the Superbowl run... it took 5 years to pan out. Do we have that kind of patience? Now a days a guy is considered a bust if he's not tearing it up in training camp. -
You're neglecting rule #1: Interpret reports/news in any way you want such that it fits your preconceived ideas/agenda. Case in point: Nix says he expects Lynch to be here. But, I don't like Lynch because he's a thug; therefore, Nix obviously wants to trade him and is just creating a predraft smoke screen. Case in point: Schobel says he's considering retirement, but there's no word from him or the Bills. But, I don't like Schobel because I'm an unknowledgable fan; therefore, Schobel is holding the team hostage (ala Favre) and now I have more reason to not like him.

Well I did make a post on the PPP board earlier today, so I'm clearly toying with suicidal thoughts.

OK, I have a delimma. I like hockey and the Sabres, but rarely get to see regular season games. So, I hear all year how good the Sabres are looking. Then the playoffs come and I finally get to see them play. Then they lay eggs like they did today. So, clearly, I know I'm a jinx. OK. So, I'll stop watching. They'll win. But, what good is it wanting the Sabres to win, if I can never watch them win?
-
Excellent point. If the team knows his intentions, either way, why would they want to announce it? Keep everyone in the dark going into the draft. Now, not that I think it matters. I'd be even more depressed about this team if it came out that their draft strategy depended upon whether or not Schobel was returning.

White House intimidation of media continues
Dan replied to KD in CA's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Just have to ask... if there's such a big liberal media bias, why is there so much contention between the White House and the media? I don't get it. -
I think a more accurate statement would be... "The Internet is making pundits/commentators on any level obsolete". The internet is putting print news out of business, IMO, because people can get all the same information in Newspapers for free. Hence, subscriptions drop, papers lose money, they go out of business. We all get information from a variety of sources - national, local, blog, message board rumor, etc. and quickly draw our own conclusions. So, when a national or local paper writes a commentary, most readers are already 2 steps ahead. But, quite honestly, what happens if all the local and national print media go out of business? Where do we all get this "information" that we spout so readily on boards like this?

That's much more inline with what I was hoping/thinking the iPad would look like. However, unless I'm mistaken, that's still a concept device. Hence there's no telling what the actual production version will look like/be capable of. . If the iPad had that functionality, I would have bought one.

Biggest thing I would have liked to see was really good handwriting recognition software. If you could use it, essentially like a legal pad, then have it convert the text/notes and automatically sync to your laptop/desktop or email/text the notes; it could revolutionize meetings. IMO, using a keyboard (virtual or real) is a real clunky way to take notes. Especially when you look at the size, it seems fairly uncomfortable to hold and type. (although maybe there's an app that can so this?) So, while I think there's tons of potential, I'd say this first version is well short of what it wold take for me to add another piece of hardware to my arsenal.

I would agree completely (hence my earlier post here). If it's a fairly innocuous "malware" type thing that just slows your computer down with popups and the like; that's one thing. I always try the malwarebytes type programs. Afterall what's the harm if you don't really get rid of it all? But, if it's a virus that's corrupting and taking over .exe applications, then you're half a step away from your entire system being fried and losing your files. And, these types of virii are far better at hiding in your system - often I've found them hidden in the system restore files. So, I'm less inclined to take a chance with a simple virus sweep. Use Firefox with WOT addon (thanks Dean) and install a good, free antivirus protection... and watch the torrent/limewire downloads.
-
It sounds like you have a serious virus on your hand. In the past I've had a few that infected ".exe" programs. They're next to impossible to get rid of. The good news is... most all of your other files - pictures, word documents, etc. are probably safe and can be backed up. So, back them up on a usb stick, although scan the stick with multiple, up to date virus scanners before opening any of them or putting them back on the computer. The bad news... reformat your hard drive, not the quick format. Wipe it clean and re-install everything. It's the only sure way you're going to completely remove a .exe virus. In the future, be very careful when downloading from limewire or other torrent downloaders.

Holy crap is this skating junk rigged! I really don't know how they can call it a sport. I'm certain the judges have written all the scores before hand. It's a complete joke.
-
Tape Delayed sporting events suck all the suspense and drama out of the event. And NBC wonders why fewer and fewer people tune in to see the games? Why watch when you already know all the outcomes and then they just roll through each event with no buildup, no drama, no emotion? Maybe if the events are happening around the world at 3am local time... ok. I can understand that reasoning. But, when you have events happening on the west coast, there's absolutely no reason to not show as many of the events live as they can.

Bills offer assistant GM to Doug Whaley
Dan replied to shaker4187's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OK, we all like the guy. He's young. Comes from a strong team. But, may I ask... does anyone know of any players he was responsible for bringing in? I've read 5 pages of posts and no one has really mentioned his scouting track record. I did a quick google, but found nothing. So, help me get behind this signing, please. -
Now I know why they're outsiders. Because if they knew anything about the Bills, they'd know that everyone and everything associated with the Bills is wrong, bad, and/or otherwise shouldn't be in the league. While, converserly, everyone and everything on any other team is right, good, and/or otherwise the way it should be in the league.

Just had a little laptop discussion a few weeks ago. I ended up buying a Lenovo IdeaPad for $629. Although, when I just clicked on the link in Deano's post, the same laptop is pricing at $999! I guess the cost of ginger in China is driving the prices up.. Oh well. It's the first Lenovo I've ever purchased and was very pleased with it. I only had it in my possession for about 2 days before I got it set up and shipped out; but it was a nice machine. I completely agree. I don't like the larger 15+ inch laptops. Why? The idea is supposed to be to have a portable computer. I have a friend with a 19" laptop... holy crap! It's like lugging a full desktop pc around. But, at the same time I don't like the small 10" displays. For my taste, that's getting too small to see a decent page of text. So, I try to stick to the 13-14" range. But, I'd give the Lenovo's a good look. Like I said, I was very pleased with it's look and feel. Of course, it'll be another year before I know how they hold up. I would suggest looking around the interwebs for some online coupons. I found one when I bought that machine and it saved me $70. Not bad. I was hopeful the new iPad would break all the laptop rules... but alas they made a 10" iPod Touch. Oh well. I really like the MacBooks if you can swing that way but otherwise, I'm finding the Macs as just too high priced to justify. As much as I like them, it's just tough to spend that kinda cash.

What You Need To Know About the Potential Lockout
Dan replied to Mr. ChumChums's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with pretty much exverything you said; save one concept. IMO these guys want to win - at all costs. They're in markets that allow them to charge more for tickets, luxury boxes, shirts, advertising, etc. They want all that money in their pocket so they can bring in every and any player they want. Essentially, they want to buy a championship. What they don't realize is that having a strong league is what makes their team as valuable as it is. Take half the teams out of the league and you don't cut today's pie among 16 teams. Today's pie gets drastically reduced because it leads to overall less interest, less watching, less revenue created. They just don't get it. Likewise the players have become overly greedy. Yes, the sport doesn't exist without them and they should be paid accordingly. But, there's a tipping point. If they get paid too much, it becomes hard for half the teams to compete. Therefore, you get the same scenario as above. A few good teams, many bad teams. Decreased interest, less watching, less revenue and their popularity declines. They just don't get it either. I'm not sure the answer. But, I'd think taking the existing player money pool and just redistributing it so that proven vets get more than incoming rookies seems fair. -
I have no problem with the game. But, I absoluely hate that they moved it to this week. First you're missing a lot of starters. But, most importantly for me at least, the Pro Bowl has become a light hearted end to the season. I'd watch the weekend activities - all the stupid competitions they had. Then you see an fun game where players were just out having a little fun. It's fun. It's not supposed to be a real game with hard hits, blitzes, and the like. My advice, just sit back and enjoy it for what it is... a final chance to watch some of your favorite players have some fun. Of course that's harder to do when no Bills make it there. But it is what it is. Have a beer and relax.

Agreed. That was my first thought. I couldn't remember his name though. (I was gonna say the one with a black guy in it, but then again I don't see color ) But, that's a cool user and avatar, perhaps mostly because of the frequency and timing of his posts. And his comments always match the avatar perfectly. The first time I saw him post... I got scared. Nobody's is cool too. Great concept. He gete's me #2 spot. (of course, Numark's was tops.)

Most Important Postitions of Need For the Bills
Dan replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IMO, it depends upong who they go after/get as a FA. I agree, lets not go after some career scrub that's only upside is he's been in the league longer than our guys. But, if a true starting QB is available - ala Pennington was for Miami a few years ago - then I say lets do it. But, to go with one our our current QBs or a draft pick; means the QB position is again a huge question mark next season. Perhaps it works out, but there's no guarantee at all. And the probability is actually higher that our QB play will be substandard, because our line will still be young and learning regardless of who they bring in to play tackle (especially if its a draft pick). clearly it's not... at least i hope not. -
Most Important Postitions of Need For the Bills
Dan replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. If the franchise QB isn't available you have to take an alternative route. I think there's likely to be some proven FA QBs. That's why I say get a good FA QB, not to win the Super Bowl with necessarily, but to solidify the position and bring us to a basic level of competency while a young future franchise QB is being found and/or groomed. Then get the best LT possible in the draft. Now, if you could show me a good FA LT, then maybe we go the opposite route. But, I don't think you find both in FA or the Draft this year. And we need to dramatically improve both positions to even be considered relevant let alone winning.
