We may have just stumbled upon some new posting guidelines. Another thing I do alot... you have a post you want to comment on. Give it an hour, maybe a day. If the issue is still unresolved, then reply. But there's not sense replying to every comment.

Exuberance at the thought that we'll just have one more year of Chan before he's fired and we can finally have Whaley take over and really start to rebuild the team with a proven defenisive-minded coach.

How Do You Solve A Problem Like McCrystal?
Dan replied to IDBillzFan's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
It's exactly this type of mentality that prevents us from winning any sort of victory today in Afghanistan or Iraq. The locals just lay back and wait. We'll eventually move out and they'll move back in. They shoot at our soldiers, then drop their guns; our soldiers can't shoot back. Because we're better than that. They shoot at our soldiers; then run into a mosque or village. Our soldiers can't shoot back, because we're better than that. Meanwhile, 9 years later we're still pissin around while they think no one can beat them. My question is when did we become so pussified? War is hell. People die. That's why you do everything you can to not go to war. But, when you do... you do everything and anything in your power to win it and win it fast. And yes, lots of people will die, many of them may be innocent civilians. But, that's just the way it is. If you don't want people to die; get rid of the military and never send troops into battle. Back to Japan, so you're suggesting we wait it out a few more months to try and convince them. Does it matter that Japan was diligently working on a nuclear weapon of their own. Who's to say that in a few months times they wouldn't have had something they could have dropped on us? Would the decision to wait still have been worth it? I ask, because we're pretty much playing the same game today. -
Problem is... we've all bought into the new regime each and every time for a decade now. There's been plenty of optimism. Sold out stadiums, even. However, the team and each new regime has stomped that optimism into the ground. So, now we get yet another new group of guys and we're supposed to all automatically get optimistic again? I said it with his hire, the problem with Gailey is he gets almost no grace period. I guarantee you if a well known, repsected, proven HC had been hired AND made the exact same personnel moves; this place would be brimming with optimism. But, Gaily is not that guy. He has to earn that optimism, from me and alot of other fans. And he does that by winning football games. So, until I see an 8 in the win column, excuse me if I can't help but be less than impressed. So, are you suggesting that by Oct 10th, we'll be 1 and 4? And if we are, if we have a losing record with more of the lame excuses about execution, while our O-line is being man handled and Trent is checking down when he's not getting pancacked, while our defensive live is a seive, and Morman is once again our best player; should we be all rosy and optimistic... still? Can you really blame some people for their pessimism when this team has consistently fielded such a poor team? When they have a chance to make moves to turn the team around and they stick with the status quo - QB, Oline? Can you really blame some of us for not being all giddy about having KC's fired OC as our new HC? Maybe it all turns out great. But, maybe it doesn't. Maybe by Oct. 10 we'll know.

In my work, we often place orders for machinery/equipment from a few suppliers. They charge us sales tax based on which office it's being shipped too. I thought the majority of online stores already charged sales tax? I know I pay tax all the time on internet orders. But maybe not from all places, I guess. ... I just checked some saved receipts for a few big ticket items (computers, software, etc.) I paid tax on them all. So, why am I the only one getting screwed?

Question: Why not just create an Album here? They've got the nifty "My Album" feature. I used it last summer to post pics of my trip to the HOF and thought it was pretty easy and functional. I guess, I just don't see the advantage to having pictures actually appear in the post. If you allow a resolution large enough to have a decent picture, then you get large, oversized posts that make reading the thread near impossible. If you put resolution restrictions on the pics, to make them smaller, then you lose all good detail in pics and still would want to link to a higher rez pic. So, I guess I'll add my 2 cents and say keep the pics out. The My Album feature is functional enough, as well as the myriad of free pic posting sites. Plus too, this way we have to at least click the link to see Peter Pan guy. Imagine, he/she showing up in every other thread... all unfiltered!

You really don't pay attention do you? I never suggested that stopping the leak wasn't the priority. My point was, and still is, that it was nice to have BP held accountable for the spill and to set up the fund. Obama spent.. what.. one day doing that? That in no way prevented the President from stopping the spill. It in no way has detracted from anyone's efforts to stop the spill. But, you can't recognize it as something positive. Why? Because Obama did it. It's really that simple. So, you hang onto the notion that it was done out of order; therefore, it's bad. Had BP stopped the spill and a day later Obama got them to set up the fund, would it magically be ok? You've argued that all efforts should be spent on the emergency situation of stopping the spill. When its been quite obvious for quite some time that they weren't going to stop this mess until relief wells are drilled. But, I guess all things should be held off until that's done. Because, god forbid, we try to concentrate on more than one thing at a time. So, in short, yes, the priority of "to do" items is correct. It was then; it is now. But,that does not mean you cannot work on multiple priorities at the same time. I'll tell ya what. When this thing is all over and the inevitable senate hearings and whatnot come about, if it is determined that the spill was prolonged because Obama needlessly spent a day getting BP to set up this fund; then I'll publicly state that Obama sucks and OC is right. However, if it is determined that the spill was not prolonged because Obama needlessly spent a day getting BP to set up this fund; then will you publicly state that Obama did something good and Dan is right?

Bass Pro to sign deal for Memphis TN Pyramid
Dan replied to G-Daddy's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Being involved in various community develop discussions over the years, when towns are trying to lure stores and retail outlets into an area it helps to have something to build off off. You get Bass Pro and then they have something to hold up and say... see this is a viable business/shopping area, essentially trying to leverage that to get other retailers. Then you try and get a domino effect of businesses and area improvments. At least that's the thought in many of the City Councils I've been privy to. It doesn't necessarily mean one leads to the other; but its what they're trying to do. I would guess. -
And how many years after the war was over? Plus they had to do some backroom deals and promise to pass a Bill of Rights immediately after it was ratified. Imagine crap like that going on today!

Actually there was quite a bit of debate over the US Constituion and whether or not it would really work.

Will Maybin turn out to be the Bill biggest 1st. Rd. Bust?
Dan replied to Dr. Trooth's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Seriously? He's shown nothing in non-contact OTA drills? Yes, truly the worst pick ever. He should have had 3 or 4 sacks on the OTAs by now. -
Am I the only one that's noticed that you talk to yourself alot?

I agree; hence, my depressed state and black stripe. I see little reason for optimism going into this season. But, I do agree as well, that they are doing some things we've all been waiting years to see. But, until I see it translate to wins on the field I'll reserve any real judgement. It's extremely rare to change the FO, change the coaching staff, change the offensive and defensive schemes, hire a very average HC, a very below average OC and DC, and fail to address the team's primary needs either in the draaft or FA - and come out winning in the fall. To say the cards are stacked against this team is a huge understatement. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that all would be right in the world with Cowher. But, it would have at least assured a great many of us that the FO was truly trying to improve the team as opposed to putting on a band iad and hope they get lucky approach. Only time will tell, though.

Thanks. I'm checking it out now.

Yep, it's called SEO or Search Engine Optimization. There's actually people that, that's all they do. They get paid to sit around all day and find ways to get your website to be at the top of google. I know a little about it, but I'm by no means an expert. But, you do it through the use of meta tags on your site and listing certain key words throughout your site. Then it get's complicated... you set up a facebook and twitter and such to link to your site. You blog regularly. All using the right keywords that are on your site. That makes your site look popular, which moves it up in google. Then you buy words. Essentially, you pay to put adds on sites using google addsense. So, that drives more traffic. This one gets confusing to me. So, that's it in a nutshell. But, yeah, the big companies will spend alot of money to get all these key words linked to their site so that when someone types in "apple" Apple Computer pops up first in google. That's the genious of google, imo. Of course, if you have a less popular type site, there's less competition for your words; hence, its easier to get at the top of google. But, like in the sites I listed above... my buddies site is Apple Ridge Farms. Well, it's esy enough to get it high ini google if you type in Apple Ridge. But, to get it high in google just by typing "Apple" or "Organic Farm"... it'll take tons of tiem and some money because those are common words that have already been bought.

That's how it seemed to me. Maybe their legs just finally gave out, but they seemed out hustled. No ball control, very few shots on goal, and poor defense. I don't know much about soccer, but Ghana definitely looked like the better team out there for the vast majority of the game.
-
Anyone with experince using Google Sites? Apparently she's registered for a google site, to get a unique email address. But, in quickly checking it out (while be distracted by the US losing to Ghana), it seems kidna screwy. It wants to set up various pages and sites within the site and add all these google apps. I just want to set up a website, though.

Univision announcers are MUCH better than ABC announcers. Of course, I have no idea what they're saying. But, they're sayin alot of it... very emphatically!
-
Says quite a bit right there.
-
Interesting, that sucks. Thanks!
-
I was wondering that same thing. Anyone? Also, why don't they substitute more? Maybe I'm just thinking hockey. But, it seems alot of fresh legs would really help. Is there a limit on the number of substitutions?
-
The sense of perversion goes ary once you're inside the rabbit hole! Click at your own risk. Yeah, I agree. That's what I attribute that last site to. Without a unique domain, all the SEO in the world probably has very limited success. But, of course, using "apple ridge" to represent true SEO isn't a great example, as Apple Ridge is in the website domain. True SEO would get the site highly ranked if you typed in "organic fam" or some other type of slightly related term.

Moratorium on deep water drilling lifted
Dan replied to Fingon's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
That's' wise. Because I reserve the right to always change my mind. Also, I reserve the right to argue the opposite just because it needs to be argued. But, that doesn't mean I'm not always right. -
Rolling Stones...worlds greatest rock n' roll band...
Dan replied to Buftex's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I purchased this album and it's pure gold. Of course, a couple of the tracks are just redux versions of songs on Exile. One Keith is clearly just filling in for Mick... its great he's just singing "etcetra" towards the end. But, several of the songs are as good as anything they've ever released. It's been in high rotation.
