Good Breakdown on Bills, KC, and Cinci moving forward
Dan replied to newcam2012's topic in The Stadium Wall
Rewatching all the games from last year, I will say 2 things. Gabe Davis is far better than posters here give him credit. He’s a solid WR that should absolutely remain a Bill. Singletary is a good RB! The offense was immensely better when he was in. He does not have breakaway speed. But the number of times he made a cut and got the needed yards cannot be underestimated. I fear we’re going to miss him. Anyone saying differently, I truly think isn’t actually watching the game but going on a preconceived notion of their play. -
Josh Allen and the next Steps we need him to make to be the best.

I’ve rewatched most of last season’s games. Offensively, I really hope the offensive line additions pan out. That was the glaring issue. Fix that and the run game follows. Its amazing how many times the offense stutters and its like Allen finally says F it, and takes the while offense on his back. That needs to stop. Also, for whatever reason, the offense became very predictable by mid season. That’s gotta be on Dorsey. Defensively, they were entirely too banged up. But they just have to be more aggressive. The bend but don’t break stuff only gets you so far as we’ve seen the last few years. -
And therein lies the issue I think most people have. He was drafted at #9. If he was the exact same player, from day 1, and drafted in the 2nd round people would be more than happy today. Draft position is irrelevant, IMO, if the the guy is starting from his rookie season on. He was a good pick then, and a good player now.
-
The problem with most posters here is they expect hall of fame caliber players at every position and then hope for a home town discount when its time to resign them. And when they don’t get both, they think you can draft that player and have them produce as rookies. Of course, either scenario rarely happens. Oliver is a good player and they’re keeping him at a reasonable price in the current NFL market. I’m glad he’s staying on the team. It’s one less hole in the roster going forward.

I’m watching ...I can’t help but feel a little bitter. Maybe disappointed? All because the Bills are good. And so close to being in this game. Yet, we seem so far away as well. During the drought years, I could enjoy the game more because the Bills had no chance of being there. Now... damn when will we get here?

Im convinced its coaching (Chiefs showing how to handle Bengals)

Reluctantly, I’m falling into this camp. Frazier just has to go. We need fresh air for the defense. Since McD got here and hired Frazier, they’ve been t running the same defense. Trying to perfect it and each year drafting or acquiring heavily on the defensive side of the ball. In the end... we have great season-long stats that are used to justify how good they are. But we get to the playoffs and the result is the same. The season’s stats are thrown out the window and we’re in a dog fight hoping Josh can be a super hero. I don’t think we need to completely revamp the defense (cause that would mean all new players). But someone has to be out there that is better at game plans and in-game situations that can generate pressure like sooooo many other teams routinely do. Offensively, I hate the notion of giving up on Dorsey after 1 season. But, it was pretty obvious his offense got figured out back in October. And he was unwilling or unable to adapt. Every game essentially came down to Josh being superior when the play broke down and he ad libbed throws and runs. There was very little scheming guys open or effective play calling. They need to sit down with Dorsey, at least, and determine what his plan is for overcoming the stale, predictable offense he was running. Not only on week 1, but how will he adapt throughout the season? Maybe they just need someone with experience to teach him? I think McD can do all this.. and he has to. The one thing they simply cannot do is just assume we had a a few bad breaks this year, and with a new safety or DT, we’ll finally have the missing player to put it all together. The Bills current roster is good enough. But that Bengals game was an inexcusable beat down in every aspect. At this point, I’m not confident they make the bold changes they need to. So we’ll all cheer a 12-13 win team again in 2023. But then what happens after a January loss in the playoffs? How many years is this acceptable? Its been 4 now. The Bills are no longer that team hoping to make the playoffs. They took the necessary steps to become a perennial playoff team. It worked. Now is the hard part... what do you do to become a perennial Super Bowl team? Some figure it out.. many others do not. -

The more I watch games, the more I think our coaching is the biggest problem with the Bills and why we haven’t been in the SuperBowl already. -
Quoted for truth. It seems they’ve been trying to get the right players to perfect the defensive scheme they installed 5 years ago. But they don’t realize the league figured that scheme out long ago. Time to move on. Similar to the offense, they go figured out about week 4. Dorsey didn’t adapt, and the line especially was exposed.

I agree. I think McD has done a tremendous job keeping the team focused and advancing to the divisional round. He would be deserving of this honor for that. However, none of that means that he shouldn’t look hard at the team and coaching staff and make the necessary changes to overcome the playoff losses. After 4 consecutive playoff losses, I’d say they’ve done a tremendous job making the Bills a playoff team. Now... how do you make this a Super Bowl team? IMO, changes in the defensive scheme are long over due. And serious growth by Dorsey and the offensive scheming is needed.

Saffold said guys were "exhausted" this week and "out of gas"

This isn’t war... it’s entertainment. Football players should not be compared to soldiers, IMO. -
The worst thing about a loss like this is gives everyone that is pessimistic and critical of every single thing the opportunity to stand up, pound their chest and shout for vindication.

This team is Allen. And they all know it. On Offense, most if the season, they lack creativity, lack focus, and became increasingly predictable because they didn’t have to change anything. Because... Allen would bail them out in the end. Similarly on defense, they never adjust, rarely feel the urgency to stop the other team. They’re coached to sit back, be cautious, don’t give up the big play. Its almost like the entire defense is built around backing up and waiting for the other team to drop a pass, or make an errant throw, make a mistake. And if they score, don’t worry because Allen will score and bail them out in the end. Add to it, McD must have gave one of heck of a classic anti hype speech pre game to calm everyone down. Ya know they’re all excited, but lets not get too emotional. Lets just calm down, take deep breaths and try not to make a mistake. Careful on 3... 1, 2, 3. Changes need to be made. We’ve become the perennial playoff team. How do we become more? Not by being cautious and standing still.
-
It has happened more times than not... no team specific game plans. The defense just doing what they did. In a lot of games.. they can over come it in most games Josh can score enough to for the other team out of their game plan. In the playoffs... its a recipe for getting bounced. 4 years in a row.
-
Plane and simple. Gabe, and everyone not named Diggs, has dropped entirely too many passes that hit them right on the hands or arms. Every time I watch other games... I see at least one or two catches that has me thinking...why can’t our WRs make catches like that? It’s beyond ridiculous the colossal lack of focus this team has as pivitol moments.

I’m over this defensive scheme. Bring in a new DC.

They have to try something... then current D has been exposed in every playoff game, save the NE game. we need a new defensive identity. Which means new DC. And get a fickin offensive line for Allen -
McBeane's investment in the D Line last five seasons
Dan replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
3rd and 4.. the entire D on the line. Immediate pressure on Burrow!! But tre was 10yards off the LOS ...easy toss and 5 yard gain to chase. At that moment.. i knew we were losing. They ..do not.. know how to play physical defense. -

They’re in a really dilemma this offseason. They need to put serious resources into the Offensive line and a WR. But they also have several big FAs on defense... and really need a new DC. Thats a tall order for one off season. They’ve squandered this window, with these players. So now the question is how quickly do they replace all the FA and retool the line and are they going to finally recognize this defensive scheme isn’t good enough when the playoffs roll around. -

True.. but the offense didn’t do much either. And i never watched it again to know which side of the ball was worse. -

The Bengals scores on 5 of 7 drives. All long field, methodical drives. The offense wasn’t good. But they were behind the gun all day. -

Because this was a complete beat down and complete domination. I would also argue... our season has ended each year in the playoffs... because the defense plays soft and comes up small in these games... maybe not in KC in 2020... but in Houston, KC last year, today. The defense is completely out schemed, out played and exposed. You cant keep coming back to the same well and hope you finally get lucky. Do something and find a way to get over the hump. -
Bengals...they’d be at home.

This is interesting. I’ve thought for several months that the Bills offense under Dorsey has gotten predictable, and only because Josh is able to perform feats of strength do they continue winning. I hope Dorsey is self scouting these tendencies and becomes less predictable. (Assuming this dude’s breakdown is legit)
