Actually, I'd suggest that the slide started with TD. It was Marv's drafts that solidified the bottom feeder status for years to come. It would be nice to say there's light at the end of the tunnel, but 1 draft in... color me less than impressed. So either this ship gets righted in a couple of years... or 6-8. We'll see how some of these picks turn out in a year or so.

New Iphone can do everything but make phone calls
Dan replied to Fingon's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Cool. I've looked into several youtube vids with similar phones and it doesn't seem too difficult. Plus I figure what's the worst that can happen... I totally screw the phone and have to get a new one. So, I figure it's worth the $35 dollars and week's worth of waiting for the part. Either I get a new life out of the thing or I go get the LG phone Lana referenced. -

Thanks. That's actually what I need/want... a phone that has great call quality/reception first and foremost. I use my phone primarily for work and nothing sucks more than dropping calls in the middle of some "important" call. And then the texting crap. I still don't like that much, but everyone texts now it seems. So, I find myself texting more and more. But all the web browsing and email and other fancy apps... I really have little desire to do on my phone. Maybe if I got a phone that did that well, I'd change my mind. But, I'm not at all convinced. -
Because we're a bitter lot that traded our imagination for insults years ago.

BAD DECISIONS LEAD TO MORE BAD DECISIONS
Dan replied to st. pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Do you have any factual information to back that up? Or is a complete fabrication much like your interpretation of Nix's comments. And when you're talking about why Nix extended someone and then present that other players should have been extended, without mentioning another GM's name, yes, you're implying that Nix should have extended Fletcher. Or at the very least suggesting that the Bills had the same philosophy to building a team back then that they do now. And there's no evidence of that. -
Maybe she's a war vet?

How was Buddy supposed to extend Fletcher? You're comparing apples to oranges trying to equate one FO's decision-making process with a previous one's. -

Other than the disappearing keyboard, how do you like that phone? When looking the other day that's what I was leaning towards getting. Then I eyed the droid things, got frustrated, thought about the $60 fee and left. -

Absolutely agree. This phone (a Samsung Finesse) is a pseudo smart phone and my first foray into the fancy phone genre. Prior to that I had the cheap Nokia (friends convinced me to go fancy). The cheap Nokia got much, much better reception. But, no email, web, picture taking stuff. So, I guess its a trade off. See that's what I was thinking. I really don't mind so much extending or getting a new contract. But, why charge $60 just because I'm getting a new phone? You'd think they'd want to encourage me to buy a new phone every couple of months.. not make me wait 2 years. Incidentally to my story.. the problem appears to be that the touch screen/LCD is going out. So, the texting and other "soft" buttons work when ever they feel like it. So, I just bought a new LCD for $35 and will try my hand at replacing it. Figure it's worth a shot. -
With all seriousness... any poster that thinks the trick to turning the franchise around is to call Polian up and somehow convince him to come back is naive, at best. It's kinda like all the posters that say how great we'd be if we drafted their players each year and now we'd have all these great players - all the while forgetting that if you draft properly and begin improving, your draft position would change. So, we wouldn't have been drafting #8-11 that last 4 years. Let's talk reality. The Bills aren't swaying someone like Polian to leave the wonderful position he's in, in Indy to come back to Buffalo. So, start over with the rant, if you will...

New Iphone can do everything but make phone calls

I always suspected they had a number of agreements with several larger carriers. Because I typically get better coverage in PA (for example) than my buddies that have Verizon. Maybe it was just my phone had a better antennae though... who knows. -

Dan replied to Fingon's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Thanks It's a small regional carrier... Cellular South. They actually have great coverage nationwide, which I very much need. I would argue their nationwide coverage is better than any of the nationwide carriers, based on the fact that friends and co-workers with Verizon, ATT, Sprint, whatever, routinely loose signal far more often than I do. But, they have the added advantage of great local coverage in many of the small, backwards towns I also have to visit in the AR/MS Delta. Try to get an ATT phone to work in Dumas, AR or Leland, MS... good luck. I'd love to get a larger carrier and Verizon may be my best bet. But, I still feel Cellular South is by far the best nationwide/local carrier for me. I guess their plans just suck balls. I don't really know how verizon or att would handle a situation like I described above. I assume by your response... more favorably. -
Not necessarily the case. Although I wouldn't consider my post whining, I certainly think the article is deserved of criticism. Yet I, at no time in the off season, thought we would be a good team with a winning record this season; I've not bashed Tim or any other articles saying the Bills suck; and I really have no internet muscles whatsoever to flex. I just feel this article was poorly timed and ill-conceived. When the Bills are 0-10 or 0-12 and the UFL team is looking like a well-polished team of start athletes; then write the article, then have the discussion. But, to come out after a bye week when the Bills didn't even play and long before any UFL team has shown such a stellar level of play and dredge up this discussion supported with gambling lines, is well.. premature at best. Could we not have had this same discussion after the Titans were winless and had gotten blown out to the Pats* last year... was that 59-0? We didn't. Why? Because it would have been nonsensical, just as it is now at this point in both team's seasons.

New Iphone can do everything but make phone calls
Dan replied to Fingon's topic in Off the Wall Archives
By Windows.. do you mean Droid? My phone is acting up and I was looking to get a new one the other day. [Rant: I have to sign a 2 year contract to get a phone. But, 1.5 years in my phone craps out. Can I just get a new phone? NO. I have to pay $60 for the privilege of "breaking" my contract so I can buy a new phone AND get a new 2 year contract! Stupid!!] So at any rate, I looked at a new Droid phone. It took me about 2 or 3 minutes just to figure out how to dial a new phone call. It seemed entirely too clunky and piss poor. So, I put it down and walked out. Still using my old phone. -
I'm not expecting much... just field a competitive team. Gailey and company are having significant trouble doing that. Many posters, here, chose to blame the players and say we don't have any NFL caliber starters. I disagree. I think we're lacking NFL caliber coaches, as evidenced by many players complete drop off in performance from last year to this year.
-
I have no idea! 5 games in and we still haven't seen a decent game plan. The players look slow, out of place, and unmotivated. While I could entertain discussion that Gailey is a better HC than Jauron, there's no doubt that Modkins and Edwards are not qualified coordinators. Gailey, himself, may not be a bad coach. He could possibly be a decent HC. But, name the last HC that was also the OC and found success. That's what Gailey's trying to do and it's not working. And Edwards... well.. damn. With all the parity in the league now, coaching has become one of the larger factors in determining who wins and who doesn't. It appears Nix totally blew it on his coaching staff.

Actually, I don't remember that. Can you provide some sources for that, please? I've been steadfastly on the side that the posting here has become entirely too bitter and that Tim and other distinguished posters here have received more than their fair share. But, come on Lori... this article is definitely a cheap shot and deserves some criticism. Why not mention the Panthers - they're 0-5 as well? Tim's using betting odds to "quantify" that the Bills are closer to a UFL team? The Bills played the Pats* closer than the Ravens; they led the Jags prior to a second half collapse; they're bad but they're not the worst team in the history of the league (they have 11 more games to prove that). I'm not suggesting that the Bills are a good team and I'm not trying to make excuses for them. They're a young team with completely new offensive and defensive systems and coaches that appear clueless. I don't see how any Bills fan can read that article and feel a little sad as well as a little pissed at the writer. I'm sorry, but if you write an article equating the Bills to a minor league team and use betting odds and quotes from individuals with a stake in said minor league team as your supporting material; then expect some negative and critical comments. It's one thing for a writer to state the facts after a bad Bills loss and discuss how poorly they played/looked. It's something entirely different to come out after their bye week and use a pretty weak argument to suggest that they don't even belong in the league. I just can't see defending Tim on this one. I do hope you'll continue writing your pregames. It's one of the last places a Bills' fan can get a fair and accurate writeup of how the team looked, looks and may look against their upcoming opponent.

It is amazing that in an age where you have 24/7 news and info channels and the internet publishing articles in minutes, you'd think people were more educated, more knowledgeable about any particular issue. But, in the rush to get everything online or on tv asap; there seems to be a severe lack of in-depth reporting. Even the in-depth analysis seems to just be "experts" shouting at each other in some psuedo debate. End result probably isn't a dumber society necessarily; but certainly a mis-informed society that is much more easily swayed.

If you could eliminate any insect from the planet
Dan replied to Jim in Anchorage's topic in Off the Wall Archives
They've been trying to do something about that for quite some time. There's been multiple lawsuits filed over the years claiming all pesticides and fertilizers are pollutants. The end result is we now will have to file NPDES Permits to apply pesticides that may enter a "water of the US" which is being redefined from the original CWA definition to include pretty much any water any where. Long story short.... farmers have an extremely large and powerful lobbying group; hence, their applications are all exempt. Imagine that.. the largest applicators are exempt. So, although I completely agree that they'll try and force these regulations on farmers, I'll be surprised if they are ever successful. However, if I were you I'd definitely stay aware and make sure larger farms are aware.. to get all the lobbying power behind you. -
If you could eliminate any insect from the planet
Dan replied to Jim in Anchorage's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Gotcha. I'd bet far more than a million. Carpenter ant colonies can be extremely large. -
I guess I'll defer judgment until I see them play Sunday, but I can't help but wonder... is this coaching staff just with us? Can they really think that's the best lineup and use of players? I'm betting they all wear shoes with velcro straps.

If you could eliminate any insect from the planet
Dan replied to Jim in Anchorage's topic in Off the Wall Archives
A trick someone showed me about fruit flies. Take a little Apple Cider Vinegar, put it in a cup, put plastic wrap over the top (with rubber band), poke a few small holes in it, let it sit. The flies will be attracted to the vinegar, fly in, but not be able to get out. Might be worth a shot... cheap and easy at least. Mosquitoes are good for population control. They kill a few hundred million people a year. Imagine how many more idiots we'd have on the plane without them. Plus they put food on my table. Most are resistant to DDT, so that probably wouldn't work. Interesting tidbit: mosquitoes do play a role as pollinators as the adults will rest in flowers and highly vegetated ares during the day. Bed bugs were, at one point, nearly non-existent in the US. They've rebounded (obviously) largely due to increased ease in international travel and the banning of the pesticides that were used to control them. Today, with the products available, it's extremely difficult to completely wipe out an infestation. Hence, the current problem. Heat is probably the best way to do it now a days. Don't know of anything that eats them. Best way to get rid of carpenter ants (or any ants) is with baits. There's quite a few commercially available that work much easier than chopping down the tree. But, I guess you wouldn't get the firewood by just killing the ants. Not sure which insect I'd like to see eliminated. I'd probably go with all Jet fans before I would an insect species. Talk about being useless and obnoxious.... -
Give me one thing that would make you happy?
Dan replied to Another Point of View's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
At this point... I think I'd settle for just watching the Bills play a football game. It feels like it's been about 6 or 7 years since I've actually seen the Bills play football. I watch people with the Bills logo on their helmet each week stumble around the field. But, it seems like forever since I've seen them play and look like a competent football team. ... ok... that's all too much perhaps. I'll change my request to being able to carry The Senator's bags on his next "vacation". -
learn the new rule changes, watch tape from the previous season to learn from their mistakes, work out so they're in shape to run around the field, practice in-game situations, rest, ya know generally focus on doing their job better so we don't have one or two questionable calls per game per week.
