Going to the Rally to Restore Fear/Sanity
Dan replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Out of curiosity and an attempt at avoiding productivity, I did. According to this site: It is impossible to compare the two [photos] since they were held in two different locations, taken from two different vantage points. -
Is the goal to make it to the Playoffs or make it to the Super Bowl? Despite all Jones' greatness, spending, and hype; the Cowboys have been only marginally more successful at the making it to the Super Bowl.
-
And in the last 15 years the Cowboys have won just 1 more playoff games than the lowly bills.
-
PTR... hope you appreciated my subtle humor.
-
How about for the utter hilarity of it. Can you imagine Moss' meltdown when he heard the Bills picked him up?

Good points. But, to some extent, people will always try and jump on whatever train they think will help them. And I'm sure in the early days of the planning, Comedy Central was latching on to anyone... just to guarantee someone showed up. In the end, if the estimates are right and over 200,000 people showed up, 10-20,000 from Huffpost is a literal drop in the bucket. In one way, I'd agree he might regret to some extent her involvement; but then again, that's in many ways the target audience of his message. So, maybe it's not so bad that she did bring people down. If the far right had brought a bunch of folks, perhaps the event would have even more impact. I doubt it, because extremist on either side rarely listen to someone else. But at least the target of the rally's message would have been in greater attendance. I think it was good to end the event as he did with some semi-serious remarks. But, for me, you can't beat the beauty and imagery of using a battle between Cat Stevens' Peace Train and Ozzy's Crazy Train only to compromise on the O'Jays' Love Train. Great bit, well worth the price of admission.

Is this the reason Gailey stopped running the ball?
Dan replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OK.. maybe he wasn't being arrogant. But will you settle for.. being stupid? Because the odds of something bad happening on each of the plays you mentioned are higher than if you just hand the ball off to Jackson and let him grind out a few yards. The Nelson fumble in the Ravens game, was the first time we had an OT situation, with plenty of time on the clock, and Gailey went with a spread offense. That put the ball in the hands of Nelson. Even if he doesn't fumble, he would have gained 3-4 yards on second down. Why not give it to a more sure-handed Jackson and let him get those same 3-4 yards on the ground. The 53 yard FG that Lindell missed is by no means at all a gimme. Again, going spread for 3 consecutive plays tips your hand and makes getting any additional yardage that much harder. Why not get a few surer yards on the ground, first; then spread them out and take a shot at something more? IMO, Gailey put Lindell in a bad situation. Calling the Spiller play is an all or nothing play. We didn't need it all, we just needed a little. Why go with a play you haven't run once all season when you can dial up something a little more sure? Again, I'm not against taking some shots. But, even Peyton doesn't line up with no RBs, every snap and succeed very often. There's a reason NFL teams don't rely on the all out 5 WR spread offense. Gailey sold out with the spread and it failed. He's done it more than once. So either he's arrogant or stupid. I'm not really sure which at this point in time. -
You're missing the point, as well, if you think this rally was a call from liberal hippies for civility. Although Stewart clearly has liberal leanings, he most consistently mocks extremists on either side of the spectrum (a place where I'd put liberal hippies) and, in particular, the news media's (both far liberal and conservative) propagation of these extreme views. I think most people see Stewart as more of a liberal bias because he's most frequently mocking Fox News. However, I think that's just because Fox News is perhaps the most biased, most extreme, and most popular "news" agency out there. He mocks MSNBC quite a bit as well - but let's face it... if a "news" person shouts into the TV and no one is watching does s/he still make a sound (i.e. it's easier to make fun of Beck because everyone's heard of him; but can you make fun of... uhhmm.. uhh.. who does MSNBC have?) As to the 2nd bolded statement... that doesn't surprise me at all. And if you watch Stewart with any regularity, you'll find he mocks CNN quite bit because they don't get it either. And you're point about bringing Huffington in to talk discuss the lack of civility is exactly the type of bit his show thrives on. You can't make that kind of stuff up!

That's what I don't get either. OK.. so we took a RB when we had 2 good ones. I didn't agree with it, but I was patient to see how they would use Spiller. Well... here we are 7 games into the season and we're still waiting to see how they're going to use this highly valued pick. Using him as a situational back getting half a dozen or so carries a game is a luxury that a rebuilding team cannot afford. Is it just me or does it feel like this whole first year of the rebuild - the FA period, the draft, the Preseason, and now the regular season - has been pretty well wasted? All we've done is confirm that all the sucky players on the team do, indeed, suck. Honestly, I'm beginning to truly believe that an integral part of "the plan" was to get the #1 pick in the '11 draft.
-
OK... that's some funny right there. Well done!
-
Absolutely correct! McNabb has made the Redskins instantly credible and is light years ahead of Rexy. Shanny might be the most arrogant coach in the league.
-
Why not seek a balance? I'm not suggesting run all the time. I'm suggesting that Gailey needs a better feel for the game's momentum and at times he needs to reign in the spread and run a little bit more.
-
Fred's biggest problem yesterday was that in 5 full quarters of play he only rushed the ball 20 times. How do you play 5 quarters and only give your #1 RB the ball 5 times? And 3.2 yds/carry isn't bad... it's right about the league average. Just like QBs and WRs, RBs need to get into a rhythm. Giving your #1 RB 5 carries a quarter is no allowing for that. Gailey says the defense dictated certain packages and the pass plays. But maybe the Chiefs were just good at disguising their looks and Gailey allowed them to dictate to him too much. Because for all those favorable match ups... Fitz didn't have a great day passing the ball.

Which is all the more reason to mix in more running. They came out in the first half passing first and we got about 58 yards of total offense. They came out running the ball in the second half and got about 250 yards of offense. We needed to mix in more run. And I have no problem with passing so much as I had a problem with the 4-5 WR sets, with no RB look. To end the game most teams would have tried to run the ball to get a few more yards to make the final kick 5 yards closer. OK.... so you want to pass and get more than that. Why not line up in a more typical run formation and do some play action? Why not try and fool the defense a little? Nope, Gailey was being arrogant. He said we're going spread and you can't beat us. Well, guess what... he was wrong. And what made it worse was he had a 2nd and 3rd chance and didn't adjust. And to make it even more obscene... we lost in OT to the Ravens with the exact same look. I'm sorry, but this loss is squarely on the shoulders of our HC. -

/dev was there ??? Slide #49 -
You can't build a winning team if you cut/trade ALL of your top flight talent. Part of why Johnson is playing so well is because everyone is focused on Evans. If I'm GM... I'd start by firing George Edwards and then take it from there.
-
I agree and think ou could put Jackson in that same boat. The one thing I don't get about Gailey is his insistence on this spread 'em out passing attack. We have a young OL; they're still very much learning their positions; we have a relatively inexperienced QB running around behind that OL; what do you do? You go empty back field, telling the entire defense that it's a pass, and put the pressure of the entire game on one of your weakest units? Gailey needs to run the ball more. That's just all there is too it. I'm not saying run all the time, just more. Then use some play action off the run. Without looking it up, it seems we're averaging about 2:1 pass to run. IMO, that ratio should be turned around or at the very least evened out. I know he talks about his packages. He talks about playing from behind. He wants to get his match ups. But, those are all just excuses. He's just too quick to abandon the run. Again, I'm not saying run all the time, but he's got to even out the play calling. And for Heaven's sake... when it's under a minute to go in a tie game and you're looking at a 53 yard FG; run the ball a couple of times to get an extra 5 or 6 yards; then try the 3rd down pass.

I can't figure out why on these shows they have to walk around in the pitch dark. Do ghosts only come out when the lights go out? -
Why call 3 pass plays with 1:30 left in OT?
Dan replied to DFITZ1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. And it seemed like he was hell bent on proving Haley wrong the way he stayed with the spread offense that wasn't working all that well. -

Watching as well. Probably won't watch it all though. -
How many runs for negative yards did Jackson have?

How is the Trick or Treating in your area?

OK.. so you take a shot. But why not then try to settle down and get something positive after that? Nope, they stayed with the pass and look where it got them. Basic Football 101, when in the last minute of a tie game or OT and you're on the edge of FG territory, you keep it on the ground and get the tough yards to make that FG attempt just a little easier. All passes is likely to get you zero yards or a sack/INT - which is exactly what happened. OR at the very least line up to run and throw off that formation.
