Is there any defensive player you'd be happy with at pick 27?

I could talk myself into it (depending on who is available). -

I don’t think that I can. It would have to be some freakish situation where someone absolutely plummets (like Carter 😂😂). If this situation gets a whole lot worse, maybe I could make that work but he’s going to go in the top 5. I’m in the camp of Bijan or TE > defense. WR and OL are my wishes but I’m not sure that a WR, of value, will make it to 27. He OL will have some guys there maybe but possibly not great fits. This class gives me anxiety. -
My opinion is that he is a great program builder. If your organization is a mess he can stabilize. That was what he originally came here to do and did it well. I worry that there is a ceiling with him. He isn’t a great game coach and for the last 3 or 4 years he had a team that was good enough to win a Super Bowl. He has been to 1 conference championship game. He may not be the guy to get to the promised land. I voted “met expectations” because he made the Bills matter. He hasn’t elevated them beyond their talent level.

Maybe, just about every mock that I’ve seen or done (and it’s sadly in the 100’s) has him in like the mid 2nd. It wouldn’t be a stretch to think that he gets to 59. I think that if a pass catcher goes in round 1 to the Bills, an OL goes round 2.
-
This is exactly why I haven’t said “absolutely not” to Bijan at 27. He is a top 5 player in this draft and would give the Bills one of the best backfields in football. I still prefer WR or OL but I won’t complain about Bijan.

At 5’11 and 173 lbs, that’s just an okay time.
-
If I were to tell you that 5 guys in this draft eventually became all-pros, who would you guess?
-
I don’t disagree, at all. That’s the only reason that JSN is even a possibility at 27. If he built off of the end of 2021 he was a top 10 lock. It’ll be interesting to see how this year plays out for Marvin Harrison JR. (who is a better prospect than any of them IMO).

Ohio State is a notoriously fast track. His obligation is to post as low of a time as possible. He’s doing what’s best for his status. No one will blame him for that

Dawkins Bates Morse Risner Dawand Jones (rd2) Backups: Boettger Brown Tippman or Wypler (rd3) Doyle inexpensive, versatile vet OL

He is running at the OSU pro day. The receivers are today though I believe. He will run in the 4.5’s IMO. JSN raises the floor of the offense and is ready to contribute day 1. For me that is important in this draft. The Bills “window” is open now. I am not sure that I need some high ceiling guy that may take 2-3 years to develop. I want a couple of day 1 contributors in this draft. To me JSN will be like 80 catches, 900 yards and 7 TDs as a rookie. If you stack that with the others it improves the offense. He will be a chain mover. He reminds me a little of a young Jarvis Landry.
-
Thanks!! As an OSU fan I’m obviously biased but I believe that. Here is the interview that everyone talks about from last year when Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave and JSN were together: After Olave and Wilson declared for the draft they sat out the Rose Bowl. Here are the highlights of JSN in ONE GAME: He was banged up for 2022 so I think that people forgot how good he was. He maybe doesn’t have elite athletic traits (although all 3 said that he was the best athlete). This guy just feels like he could come in tomorrow and give Josh the safety blanket that he needs while making some big plays.
-
JSN if he somehow makes it there. He is a rich man’s Beasley. He’s also capable of playing on the outside. I fully expect him to catch 80+ balls as a rookie.

So 2 to zero. It was not zero as claimed. If Josh Allen had 2 other firsts on offense I wouldn’t think it was enough. It’s still 2 more than now and a start.

It is a bigger issue. If you use the Mahomes example, they made the Brown trade. In terms of draft value it was maybe about the equivalent of the 40th-45th pick. It’s somewhere in that range. They used a 2nd on Humphrey. They used a 2nd on Sky Moore. They used a 1st on CEH. They signed Thuney to an $80M deal. They lost Tyreek (but got 5 picks including a 1&2 for him). They turned around and brought in Ju-Ju and MVS. They traded for Toney who wasn’t properly used in NY. It doesn’t mean that every move was right but they are using prime assets and big money to build that offense. The Bills are not. The Bills traded a 1 for Diggs. The Bills brought in 2 WRs off the streets. They took a “buy-low” shot on Crowder. They drafted a rotational RB in round 2 and signed a washed guard. I guess that the Morse signing would kind of qualify as “investing post-Josh pick.” It just isn’t nearly enough. KC hasn’t loaded up around Mahomes but still have used significantly more $ and prime assets than the Bills. If you look at a team like Philly, their asset allocation is that x 100.

You’re right on Moore (I really thought that he went at the end of round 1). Either way, Mahomes has 2 1st round skill players not zero offensive first rounders as you said. It’s not a ton, but it isn’t none. Josh Allen has ONLY played with Kelvin Benjamin as a 1st. That’s not some narrative. It is a fact. The Bills haven’t taken ANY swings at the top offensive talents entering the draft since Allen came into the league. Since the Allen pick the Bills have drafted 8 players in the 1st 2 rounds (Edmunds, Oliver, Ford, Epenesa, Rousseau, Basham, Elam, Cook). That’s not enough. Basham over Humphrey jumps out as they used the previous 2, top 2 round selections on DEs!! The Bengals drafted Burrow at 1. They then used the 1st pick of the 2nd round on Higgins. They came back the next year and used a top 5 pick on Chase & a 2nd round pick on Jackson Carmen. They still need to build the line but they gave him 2 elite rookie receivers and went to the Super Bowl & an AFC Championship since. The Bills need to give Josh, elite, cost-controlled help. Even if they are wrong, like they were with Ford, they still need to take the swings. An OL & WR in the first 2 rounds is ideal.

Not trying to be that guy but that’s not true. Off the top of my head, Toney, CEH and Moore were all 1st rounders.

Strong vs. Weak Positional Groups - Draft
Kirby Jackson replied to Yantha's topic in The Stadium Wall
You don’t have 12!! I’m calling BS!! Name them 😏 -
I’m okay reaching on OL or WR. Those are certainly my preferences. There are a bunch of guys that will go between like 15-30 that fit. I’m okay going up a few spots if need be. I don’t view Bijan as just a RB. IMO, he’s capable of being a Henry or Taylor that the offense revolves around. He’s not CEH, Breece Hall or Etiene IMO. He’s a rare anomaly and could win the rushing title as a rookie. You can get a superstar talent at the end of the 1st because the position is so devalued. I’m not advocating for it but I’d be fine with Bijan. I wouldn’t consider another RB until round 4 probably. TE isn’t a preference either. This draft is just strong there. They are saying 4 could go in the first. Players will get drafted later than their talent warrants because it is a strength of this draft. i just don’t think that they can go defense. The only 1st round player Allen has played with is Kelvin Benjamin!! It’s absurd. They are going to give him a top talent to take some pressure off.
-
They certainly loved those guys but the situation has changed. I could see Skinner, Smith or Battle in round 3. They are going to try to give Josh more. He has been tasked with too much.
-
They’ll say that they are giving Josh a new weapon. If it is a TE, they’ll talk about how it will hep protect the QB and give him an outlet. If it is Bijan they’ll get one of the 5 best players in this draft. Bijan and Cook is a top 5 backfield tomorrow. A defensive player is tough to defend. “We let so and so walk and drafted a lesser version of them.” It isn’t happening. The 1st 2 rounds will be offense.
-
I don’t see it. This regime is starting to see some criticism for the 1st time. I’ll be really surprised. I think both TE and Bijan are more likely than defense.
-
I agree with the top part. I’m simply suggesting that it isn’t a guarantee that the playoff defense improves. I’m hopeful and believe that change was needed. I don’t think that they draft defense. There has been too much focus on the neglect on offense. Kelvin Benjamin is the only offensive player drafted in round 1 that Allen has played with 😂😂. That changes this year. It will either be an OL or WR imo. TE is a sleeper.
