Receivers the Bills could go after?
Kirby Jackson replied to Desert Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Lol, seriously? That doesn’t make sense to you? We aren’t talking about all 32 picks starting!! For example, the plan was never for Penix to start this year. We are talking about a guy picked at 33, playing ahead of a guy entering year 7, that has averaged 22 receptions & 282 yards per season. All 32 teams would be appalled if their 1st draft pick couldn’t beat that guy out. That guy is a 5th WR (probably a 4th here behind Coleman). I am guessing that Coleman plays ahead of Hollins. I was surprised when Tasker and Brown mentioned that it was a competition last week. That’s a problem. If Coleman isn’t WAY ahead of that guy at this point, he’s not where they believed that he would be. With their desperate need for a high end WR, they didn’t plan on having that guy battling Mack Hollins in late August. -

…and you don’t know it’s not. I’m basing that off of the media team employed by the Bills. -

Is he? I don’t know the answer. Tasker and Brown suggested that it’s a competition. They know better than both of us. We will know in a couple of weeks. The fact that it’s a competition is the problem (regardless of the winner). The 33rd pick should NOT be competing with Mack Hollins. Shakir and Samuel? Sure. Hollins? Absolutely not. -

There’s a lot there. I’ll boil it down to the first sentence. How many NFL teams do you think would be okay with Mack Hollins playing ahead of the 33rd pick? The answer is zero. Regardless of whether it is Coleman or Hollins the fact that it is a discussion is a failure. 32 NFL teams would say that’s a problem. -

The Bills certainly have the draft capital. They can do Josh’s contract now if they need the space. Is it likely? Of course not. Is it possible? Yes -

I’m not sure if he is. Chris Brown and Tasker were talking about it on One Bills Live earlier this week. They were saying that in practice they’ve been rotating and the Bills may be more comfortable with Hollins in that spot at this point. It wasn’t anything official but the fact that is even on the table is a problem. -
Yeah, it’s a new day with the Bills. There was a time that was realistic. It just isn’t a thing now. Tickets are the most expensive that they’ve ever been and demand is higher than ever. That’s not hyperbole. If you are willing to go when the weather sucks the prices drop. If you’re willing to go if they are losing, same thing. The prices for prime opponents is through the roof. The Bills are currently one of the most expensive tickets in the NFL.

No doubt that they like Mack Hollins. When you have no WRs though, you don’t expect an average NFL WR, with 5 seasons under his belt, to play ahead of the 33rd pick. That’s just not how it works in 2024. The 33rd pick is expected to play. On a team with one of the weakest WR rooms in the NFL, the 33rd pick isn’t expected to be 4th on the depth chart. They 100% planned on him above Mack at this point. -
For sure

No The only avenue that exists to my knowledge is the veteran of the game. Each game they honor a veteran on the field. That almost certainly comes with tickets. You can probably check the website to apply for it. A woman that I work with just had her 98 year-old grandfather on the field at Yankee Stadium doing something similar.
-
The Bills really don’t sell individual game tickets on a broad basis. They have a season ticket waiting list. They do have some but a very, very small percentage. They certainly aren’t carving that up into different segments. Really, the only way to get tickets is on the secondary market. If the Bills are bad, they become a little cheaper. If you go when the weather is lousy, it’s a little cheaper.
-
I’m generally a believer in waiting as long as you can. That’s what I do when I go away for games. It almost always works out. With that being said, $94 feels CHEAP. If things are going well, the get in price could be double that.

Everyone believes that he is slow. Everyone also believes that he had trouble separating. Those things aren’t the same. 40 times have little to do with separation. Cole Beasley was great at separating. Cole Beasley was a 4.5 guy not a 4.3 guy. Hunter Renfrow is a 4.6 guy. Separation is not code for speed. The Matt Harmon chart shows massive concern with his ability to get open on most routes. That’s not just the deep ball. Coleman was drafted because he has athletic upside. He’s a physical guy with a basketball background. His gauntlet drill at the combine was exceptional. Straight line speed matters but it is nowhere near as important as route running. To this point, Coleman is bad at that. He certainly can improve. He has a high ceiling but a pretty low floor. We have heard throughout camp of the good and the bad. The bad though is EXACTLY what he struggled with in college. It is not new and it is not surprising. So far, the pros and cons have been the same pros and cons that he put on tape. I’m on record for not liking the Coleman pick. I thought that he was somewhere between the 10th-16th best WR in the draft. The Bills backed themselves into a corner. They needed a guy that could get off the bus and contribute. They needed a guy at the top of their depth chart. They instead took the 8th or 9th WR after trading down twice. That doesn’t scream, “we have to have this guy.” By some accounts he might play behind Mack Hollins to start the year. That is a problem. I promise you, when the Bills selected Coleman they did not plan on him battling Mack Hollins for early playing time. -

I don’t want to speak for @BADOLBILZ but that isn’t it. I posted the chart here earlier. The reason people don’t believe that he can separate in the NFL is because he didn’t separate in the ACC. That discussion was long before the slow 40 at the combine. -

I don’t think anyone’s concerns with Coleman come from his slow 40. That was icing on the cake. The concern comes from this: -

I don’t know the details. One of the people in our group had heard that. She confirmed it at the last preseason game. That was always a nice spot and they were good to us. -

La Galleria and next door at the old Twin Oak We previously parked at a house across the street. That’s for sale now and we wouldn’t go back there if it wasn’t. -

I didn’t think that they were particularly strong at the back of the depth chart with those guys. I think that those 3 would be somewhere between 4 & 6 on most depth charts with resumes saying that you shouldn’t expect much more. I’d just assume a guy like Shavers play than may be good or bad. I don’t really care if the Bills have Hollins/Claypool/MVS. I’d rather take a chance on someone trying to replicate their pedestrian production. -

I don’t know. We plan to make some calls and do a little research this week. If I find anything out I’ll shoot you a message. -

Lol, it was never looking strong. Samuel is probably the best “WR” on the team. He is more of a weapon but the Bills are counting on him for probably 6-8 touches a week. We had a bunch of scrubs at the back of the depth chart that will be substituted for by a bunch of other scrubs. This WR room is abysmal. We have a couple of 2’s or 3’s in Samuel and Shakir. We have a raw rookie with some upside but separation concerns and some scrubs. -

Yeah, it is even worse than I imagined. The lot that we park in and the lot next to it were just sold apparently. The one that we used to park in is for sale as well. The parking this year and next will look so much different than it has. It was a big topic of discussion at dinner last night with our group. We are trying to decide if we want to move a little further away and deal with the longer walks or move closer and deal with the traffic nightmare. I’m leaning towards Bert’s Bikes and the easier out but might get outvoted. -
Someone made an interesting point (can’t remember which thread it was in). They said how Beane has taken some high ceiling low floor guys in the 1st (counting Coleman here) and then productive/safe guys in the 2nd (paraphrasing). It’s interesting when you think about it. They’ve taken guys like Josh, Elam, Rousseau, Coleman and then guys like Epenesa, Boogie, Cook, Torrence, Ford, Bishop & Zay.
