I’d say that as of opening day 2018 we may have the worst QB play in the league. That is different than worst QB situation to me though. The Bills have a young top pick at QB and not a lot of money tied up in the poisition. I think a team that has a ton of money tied up in a guy like Flacco or Tannehill is in a worse situation. I don’t think that the Giants situation is ideal either. They are coming off a terrible year with a 39 year-old QB that didn’t play well. There are a bunch of situations that the Bills are better than.

Ha ha, yeah the Bills desperately need to throw the ball to receivers that aren’t open. Ha ha, quit while you’re behind.

I think that his point is that no team will commit to him while many comparable QBs (like Tannehill) have remained unchallenged. I don’t necessarily agree or disagree on that point. It still makes no sense that people are bothered by it.

This thread is so TBD. People are FURIOUS, that he suggests Tyrod Taylor is a guy to cheer for. He is a classy guy that took a pay cut, moved onto a team that drafted a QB 1st overall and has remained classy. Why in the world are people bothered by this? That is a miserable existence. It isn’t hard to support good people. All of those former Bills are good people. If this makes you mad, get a life.

So pretty much, if you spent some time in Buffalo we should cheer for you? Works for me (unless you go to the Pats).

Fair enough, if you think Peterman > Matt Moore we probably aren’t going to come to an agreement on this. The only point that I was making is that the 3rd QB on EVERY NFL team is on the bubble. I said the exact same thing about Yates a year ago and was ripped for it. It turns out I was right. I think Peterman is more likely to make the team than Yates was but he is a bubble guy if (big if) Allen is close.

So the Bills should fire his brother because Russ slept with an employee? I’m sure that wouldn’t end in a lawsuit.... Also, if you think that RB’s severance isn’t massive, you’ll be disappointed. When our president at the Hornets got fired he walked away with like $6M.

Why cut him? The only reason to cut him is to use the roster spot elsewhere. Say they like the development of Connor McDermott or Austin Proehl, what do they do? What if one of those receivers emerges as a Marcus Easley type of gunner? What about Ray-Ray as a return man? You can only keep 53 on the roster. The 3rd QB is the least likely guy on your roster to ever play. That is why the majority of teams kept 2. We are at a point now where so many teams kept 2 guys that some quality options remain out there. Shaun Hill and Matt Moore were two that I mentioned. If McCarron/Allen gets hurt would the Bills be better off with a depth chart of McCarron/Allen and Moore or McCarron/Allen and Peterman? That’s what we are talking about because all of those guys not named Allen aren’t ever going to be more than the 2nd option here.

Grayson was drafted to be the heir apparent (potentially). That is not the case with Peterman. They just watched him for a year and it was clear that he wasn’t going to be that so they dumped him. Peterman has a chance to make the team for sure. The point is that he definitely isn’t a lock.

That’s kind of the point. You can throw a rock and find a guy as good as him. If he is number 2 breaking camp he will be here. If he’s going to be number 3 then I think it’s unlikely (although he goes to the PS). The cap space is totally irrelevant. He will barely even be in the top 51 and any vet that they may sign instead is not much different. That isn’t a factor here. The decision will be made entirely based on the roster breakdown. Peterman isn’t competing with a QB for a spot. He’s competing with ST players, OL, etc... Do they feel that there is a guy on the back of the roster that they need to protect?

Less than half of the league employed 3 QBs last year. The cap space is beyond irrelevant if we are talking about an in season addition. That couldn’t be less of a factor. It all comes down to where Allen is by week 3 of the preseason. If he is looking like the starter (or at least the #2) where does that leave Peterman? It leaves him as a distant 3rd that isn’t the plan for the future (Allen is). If Allen looks overwhelmed and completely raw Peterman probably makes the team as he buys the team weeks/months to get Allen closer to ready. If it is going to be McCarron and then Allen by opening day it is more likely than not that Peterman won’t be on the 53. They will try to put him on the PS. If someone signs him to their active roster, so be it. He was a 5th round pick that played poorly. The Saints cut Grayson after a season and he was a 3rd. If that happens and McCarron or Allen gets hurt the Bills can add a FA QB like Matt Moore to get them through. It isn’t all that different than when we added Orton. The plan is for Allen to be the guy. Peterman’s place depends on how far along Allen is.

There are guys out there in the same price range and he has PS eligibility. Peterman is absolutely in jeopardy. Would the Bills rather keep Rafael Bush as an experienced safety that can contribute on special teams or a QB that will never see the field? Would the Bills rather keep Connor McDermott as a young swing tackle or Peterman? The answer is who knows. The position player is certainly more likely to contribute but Peterman plays a more important position. At the same time you can sign a guy like Shaun Hill or Matt Moore if there is an injury to a QB. Are the Bills better off with Peterman or Matt Moore?

Guys in jeopardy of not making the team: Newhouse, Peterman, Gaines, Holmes, Washington, Ivory, Lorax, Thomas, Bush, Miller, Ducasse and Mills. Obviously all of those guys aren’t going to get cut but I could see Mills or Newhouse. I could see Miller or Vlad, etc... I may be forgetting some but think that each of those guys is fighting for a roster spot.

I would take a shot on Navarro Bowman. I think that you could have a good front 7. WR & OL are equally bad but I don’t know of any sure upgrades (besides a declining Dez). I’m not sure throwing bodies at those areas makes them better. They need talent not more guys. I’d consider a trade in there if possible. Maybe Shaq Lawson for Corey Coleman? Seems to make sense for both sides.

Again, no one is talking about Tyrod but you. We are just challenging the notion that McCarron is any sort of upgrade based on what he has done. You pick random things that you hated about Tyrod as your proof and bury your head in the sand regarding McCarron’s struggles at the pro level. He has actually been a worse pro, with better surrounding talent, than Taylor. There is a reason that he is making half of McCown, about 28% of Tyrod, 1/6th of Ryan, etc...The league has spoken pretty loudly. Now if you are referring to Allen we can discuss. He has massive upside and if he comes close to his potential he is absolutely an upgrade. That likely isn’t going to happen this year. If it does, fantastic!! The Bills even know that they are likely taking a step back to take a step forward. That’s why they keep saying things like, “this isn’t going to happen overnight.” The frustrating thing about discussing this with you is that you stick your fingers in your ears and scream “LA LA LA LA LA LA LA, I CANT HEAR YOU.” If you want to do that it’s up to you but that doesn’t strengthen your argument. While we are at it I don’t understand how you believe the RB position will be better? Ivory is maybe a slight upgrade from Tolbert but Shady is a year older and they are running behind a significantly worse OL. They lost a Pro Bowl LG, a former Pro Bowl C and one of the highest paid OTs in the league (despite his injury problems). How do you see that RB group improving??

Again, your emotions are clouding your judgement. Tyrod led 2 top 10 scoring offenses in his 3 years. You are dismissing the strengths while exaggerating the flaws. That is your way of justifying it. FWIW, as much as Tyrod struggled last year he still averaged more passing yards than McCarron (who played with Green, Sanu and a good Eiffert). What you think is the case and what IS actually the case are different. That is the point. Again, Allen is the long-term answer (hopefully). If he is the guy, the problem is solved. If he isn’t, we will be looking again in a couple of years. McCarron is simply a placeholder and potential back-up. Ingram has been a good player since 2013. He’s also a good community guy and a likable person. I was pretty bummed when I saw this today.

I know that you believe that but most of the league doesn’t. I don’t know if you’ve watched McCarron’s pro career to date but it hasn’t been very good. There has been a substantial drop off from Dalton despite great pass catchers. He’s averaged less passing yards than TT as well and is nowhere near as mobile. I think that people that hated Tyrod have this vision of McCarron that just isn’t accurate. That’s why he got paid half of what Josh McCown did. Allen is the question mark. If he is good it is an upgrade. If he isn’t ready it is a downgrade. That was the point that it is “set up to be better long-term but is likely worse this year.” Allen is either the guy immediately or they are worse this year. Too often we fall into the trap of extreme opinions on Bills players because of our emotional investment. We overrate Kyle and underrate Tyrod. We underrated Sammy and overrated Freddie. That doesn’t mean that they are awful or great. They are just worse and better than our perception. The contracts around the league tell the story. Teams pay guys what they think comparable quality players are paid.

Thought LSU would be a possibility. I still think it ends up Florida but the LSU job is up for grabs. They really thought someone would step up in Baton Rouge (they didn’t).

It isn’t the worst situation ever. I wish Burrow nothing but the best. Haskins - Martell - Baldwin isn’t the worst situation ever. That’s plenty of depth. I don’t see a grad transfer coming in to be 3rd on the depth chart.

Joe Burrows is about to be a grad transfer. He was the best OSU QB in the spring game but clearly must be behind Haskins. I’m thinking UF.

I love me some Johnny!! Hope that everything is okay and it is just a bad reaction. The guy recognized that he had a problem and is doing what he can to battle it. As a person that lives with someone in recovery, I’m cheering hard for #combackszn

I’m not sure that even the Bills are as optimistic as you are. I think that long-term the QB play is better but it is likely to be worse this year. The RB position is a year older running behind a worse OL. The pass catchers are the same as they were before, bad. The defense should improve. They have a chance to be good. This team looks like it takes a step back to me. I’m fine with that as long as Allen is the guy.
